wjag Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Okay now is it fair to say the "oft injured Captain"?
LabattBlue Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 It is fine that the shoulder is the reason for his sub-par play since 11/29, but what about the rest of the season? So far, he is nowhere near being worth the 3.5+ mil they are paying him.

So far, he is nowhere near being worth the 3.5+ mil they are paying him. TBF though, the only player on the roster worth his contract at this point in the season, is Vanek. Wow... Never thought I'd say that... How things can change in 12 months. Also, I like how the article mentions both Gaustad and Kaleta, yet has NO mention whatsoever of "The Skill". Even the media appears to have given up on him at this point.
carpandean Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 TBF though, the only player on the roster worth his contract at this point in the season, is Vanek. Wow... Never thought I'd say that... How things can change in 12 months. I don't know, how does this sound for $1.375 million: 30 GP, 9 G, 14 A, 23 P, 1 SH, 1 GW, 20:19 TOI/GP, 4:13 PPTOI/GP, 2:43 SHTOI/GP Jason Pominville has been worth his current contract. Also, after a slow start, Roy over the last 15 GP has 17 points (7 goals, 10 assists), which is very much worth $4 million per year.
R_Dudley Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 Well I'm glad to know at least there's a reason Rivet stopped playing the way he started the season instead of he was turning Japenese. Problem is his game(physcial style) puts allot of stress on a shoulder type of injury and these two week blocks could very likely go 3 to 4 and the 6 to 8 week total time variety to really heal... I say we afford to let him heal up so that he is there in the stretch run towards playoffs rather than nursing a nagging injury all season and then if we made it, out in the first round..

True, however my general point was that Rivet was far from the only player on the team not living up to expectations.

Who knows if it ever really heals up though. Shoulders are complicated. Depending on what the injury is, it can nag at him for a long time and quite possibly never actually heal up completely regardless of the amount of time he misses.
inkman Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 turning Japenese. It took me 20 years to figure out what that song was about.

Thats true and IMO why they are talking rehab because as you probably know the only other option is surgery and thats likely season ending.. So if rest and build up of the muscle's around it work then he's back in 6-8 weeks.. If not then ... It took me 20 years to figure out what that song was about. Funny almost same amount of time for me too and thats a good thing ;) ... until I actually worked with a guy from Japan and asked him about the song...
shrader Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 I don't know where you're getting that time frame from, especially since they haven't said what is wrong with the arm. There's more than enough that could be wrong, all having completely different time tables.
Strow Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 This sounds like something that he could get surgery for but is going to do rehab for 2 weeks and see how he feels. Then if it isn't good he will do another 2 week of rehab then go from there. If its something that he missed a month for surgery do that and come back 100 percent with a health "upper body" and a healthy knee and try not to be super man please.

Article said it was shoulder, Lindy's reputation for under reporting injuries and Total speculation and that's my guess. Nothing more than that.
K-9 Posted December 16, 2008 Report Posted December 16, 2008 It's obvious that Tim Man Rivet just isn't physically built to withstand the rigors of hockey. PU**Y! GO SABRES!!!

Nothing more than that. Fair enough. I had no idea if you read something else. I think the whole injury reporting thing can go either way. They've got this basic time table that they throw out for each injury now. Some will go longer, others will go shorter. It's all a part of the big deception game they always play. Hell, Rivet has already come in under his early prognosis once this year already (which of course may be a part of his problems).

Hell, Rivet has already come in under his early prognosis once this year already (which of course may be a part of his problems). I agree. FWIW, I based my WAG estimate on his own statement in the article that he re-hurt/felt it in both games he played and if he could not play up to his own physical game standard, he felt he shouldn't play. Well I saw both those games he played and they were hardly up to the original physical standard of earlier in season so that and the tricky aspect of shoulder injuries you yourself espoused were the basis of my prognostication.
Frank Brutus Posted December 17, 2008 Report Posted December 17, 2008 At least the team isn't for sale: http://buffaloruse.com/2008/12/larry-quinn...s-not-for-sale/
