Hawk Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 I think Lindy and Darcy are in a tough position. Upsetting the "Band of Brothers" with a shakeup, and losing the team. Do these players actually want to win, or are they content with keeping this little group together, and collecting a paycheck?? Bucky Gleason already has suggested that Lindy has lost this team. No wonder they cant get FA's to come here.

No wonder they cant get FA's to come here. Very interesting comment. I was thinking of posting a version of this after reading some comments in the Hamilton paper this morning. 1. "Darcy (Regier, Buffalo GM) has kind of done it in tiers," one Sabre marvelled yesterday. "Four, maybe five, contracts coming up each year, so you don't have to change too much." 2. "It was a comfortable (PA's emphasis) decision for me, looking around and seeing the guys they signed or were making an effort to," Miller told The Spec yesterday as the Sabres prepared for the Leafs last night. "It would have been a little different had the guys I came up through the American League with, and whom I trust as teammates, had gone elsewhere. It would have been tough to say this is the team I know and recognize." --- The picture that's emerging is of a franchise where everyone is extremely comfortable -- except us. Goli's gonna cash in soon enough, what does he care? Quinn got a piece of ownership. Regier is entrenched, and thus so is Lindy. A lot of players have nice long term contracts and know the GM isn't gonna rock the boat. The players are friends and party together -- the male bonding, as we've seen, is extraordinary. This is a very comfortable team right now. When the Leafs put down the pedal last night, the Sabres certainly slammed on the brakes in a hurry.

Letting the inmates run the asylum. Maybe Mgmt should talk to Marv Levy on how to control a bunch of high priced players into a unit with, "One team, One Goal"

Comfortable can equal complacency and I've seen more of that lately then I care to see. I have posted this before that a team of good buddies is great when winning, you can go out and have a few beers and wifes/girlfreinds all get along however I'm just not sure that's the best chemistry for a consistent high performing successful TEAM. Especially when you supposedly need/use competition to push each other for ice time and roster spots,,how does that make you feel about putting a bud in pressbox or back too minor's........ IMHO this team could use a shakeup of the core brat pack here because they do look way too comfortable ,,,, too comfortable with losing. As a player if losing doesn't make you mad, make your blood boil, make you drive your teammates to be be better and stay in practice a little longer to learn how to bury those chances then you are just collecting the paycheck and enjoying the ride... I am sick and tired of hearing the excuse about us just not burying our chances thats why we lost, well duh maybe stopping playing after 40 minutes had something to do with it.... If you had maintained the passion/effort for the game that got you NHL and didn't need 4 losses in a row to finally play with that passion/desperation then we wouldn't need the bridemaids lament.... there appear to be too many comfortable buddies/passengers on this bus right now...... Rant off.
spndnchz Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Comfortable. Ordinary. Buffalo? People are seeking a team that will give them all the answers with no more questions, which will allow them to ?rise above the problems of the world.? You and I are searching with them for this team, a team that would help us deal with these insecurities, and that is ironic, because, you see, you may already have it. /out

I for one do not expect perfection however I admit I may be misguided in my expectation that they at least leave it all out on the ice and lay down on their shield especially at home. But hey they were probably pacing themselves for tonight ya know save some energy right ? <_< Gad I hope they don't think that way ?

Stoner Posted December 13, 2008 Report Posted December 13, 2008 Anyone else think these Sabres are starting to resemble the Sabres of the 70s? A team that grew up together, made the community fall in love with it, had a brush with the Cup and then proceeded to underachieve through the rest of the decade. Punch built the thing, then never seemed to want to put it over the top or make big changes when it became apparent they were necessary. The team was kept together for a long and the players became very familiar with each other. And the fans always bought into them. 75-76-77-78, it was always going to be the year. Even when Bowman became GM and it was long overdue to rebuild, the fans still hated him for breaking up the old gang.
