cdexchange Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Now just step aside and watch the wedding planning begin. He's right...your job is to rent a tux and show up on time wearing it. That's it. :D
That Aud Smell Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 He's right...your job is to rent a tux and show up on time wearing it. That's it. :D oh, and i will add this: do whatever the f**k she tells you to do, when she tells you to do it. and that's pretty much a good rule of thumb on a go-forward basis as well. (hey, man, i ain't proud. we just celebrated our 10th and have a house full of kids to show for it. if there's another way to have a happy marriage, i'm unaware of it. the key to the rule being bearable in its application is to find a great girl.) i will also share my favorite engagement story: after something like the 5th time one of my parents' friends told me "congratulations" and told my fair bride "best wishes," i pulled one of them aside and asked why the distinction. the answer should have been self-evident to me (and should be to all of you as well). in all seriousness, congrats (and best wishes to your gal).

Being married (11 years now) is the best thing I've ever done. oh, and i will add this: do whatever the f**k she tells you to do, when she tells you to do it. and that's pretty much a good rule of thumb on a go-forward basis as well. Excellent post and good advice for MarkAF. Bottom line is you can probably pick 1 or 2 things you REALLY care about (3 max), but give in, quickly and graciously, on everything else. There is no such thing as winning an argument with your wife -- even when you win, you lose.

Already told you on the phone yesterday, but congrats again...I was going to do a LAMP post for you yesterday but wasn't sure how you'd feel about it. Now I know....

Knowing his fiancee (weird to read that, huh Mark?) he has no choice but to do whatever the f**f she tells him. She don't take no crap from anyone.... ;)

MarkAF43 Posted December 12, 2008 Author Report Posted December 12, 2008 thanks everyone ----- i knew it had to be right, when buying the ring and getting ready to propose, there was no fear, no big bouts of nervousness or anything else. I know i made the right call, she read the replies and says thanks to everyone too!
tom webster Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 He's right...your job is to rent a tux and show up on time wearing it. That's it. :D Congrats and best of luck. It took me two times but I finally got it right and couldn't be happier. My favorite wedding planning story. I pretty much stayed out of it and my father in law did as well. His only request, no tip jar on the bar. So I walk into the reception and first thing I notice is a tip jar. I walk right up to the bartender and tell him I had made arrangements for no tip jar. After some haggling, I finally asked the three of them, how much they hoped to make that night. I then gave them what they said plus a few extra bucks and they removed the tip jar. They then proceded to keep my glass full the whole night almost knocking me on my ass. Best part, six months later I found out that my father in law did the same thing. Happy bartenders, right up there with happy wife and happy in laws.
That Aud Smell Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Bottom line is you can probably pick 1 or 2 things you REALLY care about (3 max), but give in, quickly and graciously, on everything else. good point, free. with me, it's my weekly d&d game and my insistence on keeping and wearing my collection of vintage candy-product tee-shirts. :bag: (nah, it's getting out with some regularity for hockey games (used to be watch/play, now it's just watch), stinking up the house with home-brewing maybe 3 times a year, and keeping a wide variety of spirits and beer on-hand at all times.)
