SwampD Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Like I said above, the refs swear at the players almost as much as the players swear at them. This is not out of the ordinary, so I don't know why they are making a big deal of it. Now what is said during a fight is real fun stuff. That's kinda what I was saying. It's only a problem if it effects the game. If they only talk, who cares. But when they start calling BS penalties(like the one on Roy) because their fragile little feelings are hurt, then that's a problem.

Kristian Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Who knows, maybe something good will come from this? Remember a few years back when suddenly Nick Boyton, of all poor excuses for a hockey player, cried to the media about how they Sabres were diving left and right? Boom! We lost half our tripping and hooking calls overnight. Maybe this could have the opposite effect? Lord knows it won't be getting worse, after that hack-job in Spittsburgh.
bottlecap Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Miller is getting a reputation as a crybaby.
bleedblueandgold Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 I really couldn't care less about a ref that says that. I'm more pissed that Roy got a BS tripping call when he was skating completely upright and just happened to run into Crosby's swollen labia. Giving them yet another power-play in the third. Couldnt agree with you more......they stroke him so much its disgusting!!!!
sniperwoj Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Calls don't necessarily have to be even, but that pick allowing Malkin to drive to the net and the trip on Roy. Come on...
dante23x Posted December 10, 2008 Author Report Posted December 10, 2008 Miller is getting a reputation as a crybaby. Is that your own opinion or does the hockey press really think that? I hardly ever hear him complain. Granted he doesn't take criticism particularly well, but who does? Also, why would he get a suspension? If he wasn't joking or lying about what the ref said to him, then he clearly has a legit beef with this ref and he wasn't really complaining about the ref just stating what was said to him.
bottlecap Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 my opinion. I don't know what the hockey press thinks.
Buffalo Wings Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 What I'm wondering is why didn't Miller bring this to Lindy's attention shortly after the game on Monday night? Why wait until after Tuesday's practice? If I'm Miller, I go quietly to my coach after the post-game press is gone.

Since he was laughing about it with Lindy, my guess is that he really didn't think it was that big of a deal AND kinda funny. Maybe he actually isn't the over-sensative shrinking violet that some here make him out to be.

Guest Nos Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 So what, it's hockey, not poetry class, players swear all the time, it's not a big deal...
Two or less Posted December 14, 2008 Report Posted December 14, 2008 They were just discussing this on CBC's hockey night in Canada. Milbury said this isn't junior high and to get over it. He said when he used to coach, refs and coaches swore all the time. Kelly Hrudy agreed. He said he used to swear at refs and didn't expect a penalty and in return, refs swore at him. But he also called Miller stupid because he said by pointing out the refs, Sabres/Miller will put a target on their backs. I kind of agree with them to be honest. I didn't and think NHL should have acted on it. But i think it back fired on Buffalo as we saw the BS calls in the Tampa Bay game. I hope this isn't a season long issues of refs trying to prove a point against us.

I hope this isn't a season long issues of refs trying to prove a point against us. In and of itself, that behavior is totally unprofessional. They have already been doing it as evidenced by several games this year. Actively officiating in a biased manner against or for one team is completely unprofessional and should be unacceptable by the players, fans, media, NHL brass, etc. It really shouldn't matter whether they think they have a reason for it or not. They don't. Professional expectations in any industry is to have the ability to check your feelings, biases and prejudices at the door if you expect to get paid. While I recognize it is not humanly possible to remove all of the above, "checking them at the door" implies they don't actively use them in their officiating and/or decision making processes in their professional environment. End rant......
That Aud Smell Posted December 15, 2008 Report Posted December 15, 2008 my take on this is that it was never an issue for miller or ruff, but that it was a BFD to the local media, who ground this thing out for at least 3 stories. what i mean is this: so miller told ruff a story about something a little unusual that happened on the road - so what? after they'd had their falling out through the media following one of those florida games, maybe they were just trying to make-nice and have a laugh, for all i know. it was the local media that then pressed miller, "ooooh, ryan, what did you and lindy just talk about?" so miller told them. and the reporters ran with it, for days. puck daddy aptly mocked our local media for giving the story the treatment they did.
