tom webster Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 I am not surprised he is on pace for 60, nor do I assume he will net 60. Like DeLuca has said, he had 36 in a down year. I've always felt he would be a scorer but the way his overall game has come around so quickly is a testament both to him and the coaching he has received. While I think they should of had him locked up at a better rate, I never felt his contract would be a detriment to the team. In fact, him, Roy and Pominville should all be considered good values.
tom webster Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 I'm surprised by his goal total and I think his assist total will start going up when his linemates start scoring some goals of their own and also if they start playing Vanek on the wing during the PP. Just think what both his and Jason's totals could look like if they had a true center between them.
LabattBlue Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Just think what both his and Jason's totals could look like if they had a true center between them. Only in my dreams! :)
LabattBlue Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 In fact, him, Roy and Pominville should all be considered good values. While Pominville & Roy have both struggled at times this year, I agree with you!
spndnchz Posted December 9, 2008 Author Report Posted December 9, 2008 Just think what both his and Jason's totals could look like if they had a true center between them. You just made me tingle all over. **sigh**
shrader Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 As for the poll question, the math says he's on pace for 62 goals. (20/27)*82=60.74 As for the question, I didn't expect him to have this many this early, but I did expect him to be among the league's elite goal scorers. Very very few players have the eye for the net that he has.
K-9 Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 No, if you read the thread title, the question is "Are you surprised that Vanek is on pace for 60 goals?" I doubt he will actually do it, but I am not entirely surprised that he is on that pace. My bad. I was careless in my reading. Apologies to the board. GO SABRES!!!

Then again, I didn't read the thread question correctly so how should I be expected to edit my own posts? GO SABRES!!!
K-9 Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 No, you don't get it. The question is:Are U surprised Vanek is on pace for 60 goals? Yeah, Carp caught me on that first. GO SABRES!!!
nobody Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Even if he hits 50 rather then 60 - people should be happy with his goal scoring this year.

But anyway, just to throw a little more nitpicking in here, when projecting point totals, they never round up.
Mr.Christopher Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 No way he will score 60, but he's played very well so far. I think he'll get past the 40 goal mark, and I would be pretty happy if he matched 43 from a few years ago. 43 isn't out of the question and I would think most would be happy with 43 again.
JujuFish Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Yeah, Carp caught me on that first. GO SABRES!!! Carp was pointing to the thread title. I was pointing directly to the question itself.

I think he'll at least hit 43 and will likely give 50 a run for its money.

Claude Balls Posted December 9, 2008 Report Posted December 9, 2008 Another impressive part of Vaneks is his durability. He gets beat up pretty good when he goes in front of the net, but he usually comes away with a goal or a good scoring chance and no injuries. There's no reason he can't reach 60 if he stays healthy. Even 50 is a great accomplishment nowadays in the NHL. Of course he doesn't get the attention of an Ovechkin Crosby because he isn't as flashy, but you can't question his toughness or goal scoring ability.

bob_sauve28 Posted December 10, 2008 Report Posted December 10, 2008 Damn! Jeff Carter scored tonight
Guest Nos Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 The fact is Ruff is a coach that will be all over you until you do things right. That's why I love him, and he still wants more from him, Vanek showed everybody he's matured, and now is the time to take the scoring title, but more importantly to establish himself as a cornerstone of our club for years to come... I think he realized to be a franchise player, you have to be so much more than a scorer and he adjusted his game accordingly. In hockey you get rewarded for playing hard, and now he's reaping the rewards...
Bmwolf21 Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 :bag: I resemble that remark. I have to admit, I was dead wrong about Thomas. I didn't think he had it in him to become the player he is now. This is pretty much how I feel. It's nice to see one of our first-rounders develop and mature into an very solid all-around player (and pretty damn good scorer) right in front of our eyes.
thesportsbuff Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 not really surprised that he's doing well, but that's not to say I expected him to lead the league in goals. that just comes as a bonus!
FearTheReaper Posted December 11, 2008 Report Posted December 11, 2008 not really surprised that he's doing well, but that's not to say I expected him to lead the league in goals. that just comes as a bonus! I agree. I'm not in awe of Vanek being this good this season. I knew he he had the potential to be this great, but i figured it would take another season or more to get there. I think if he keeps it up,he might end up between 45-50 goals.
jimiVbaby Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 ...and to think I was one of the VERY few to be defending the guy last year. Too bad I can't back this up... stupid servers. :censored:

Too bad I can't back this up... stupid servers. :censored: Yeah, damn server. All my posts where I proved that inkman is really the queen of england are now gone. This is exactly why Corp is getting fired.
Wyborowa Posted December 12, 2008 Report Posted December 12, 2008 Meh...He's making 7 mil a year....he BETTER play like this!! Imagine how much he worse he would be playing if he got a lower salary? I am very surprised at Vanek, and I'm not....needs to be consistent...he's league leader now...but what about after game # 50? 82? Then we can talk.
