, and the bench minor to give them a 5-on-3 was thin-skinned ....

Seriously, what was the bench minor all about? I couldn't believe it when I saw it was a 5 on 3. Stupid Versus Network didn't describe what happened. Just showed 2 Sabres in the box! Brutal!

was anyone else upset about the 2 crosschecks by Malkin on Vanek when he was down on the ice. I wanted his head on a stick.

Ya, that and Crosby's sucker "slap" on Hecht after the game was over. These 2 D-Bags have been asking for it, and I wouldn't be surprised to see Peters Suit up with Goose and Mair come December 22nd, although I guess those guys together on the ice with Crosby may not work out too well for us. I think we might need to send these guys a little message nevertheless.

Quite a rivalry we're building with the Pens, though. Every game the last couple of years (maybe 3) has been VERY competitive and fun to watch.

You just knew the Sabres would win after killing that 2 minute 5 on 3...

Did you now? Have we been watching the same team for the last 1.25 seasons?

In my opinion, Gaustad had his best forechecking game so far this year. Great presence and a lot of energy...not to mention that hit in the 2nd...

Best game for him of the year, IMHO. That's what we need. I've seen it a bit more lately, but not every game. Once we get it every game, he'll be worth his contract.

-A really nice game from Miller despite the 3 goals. One of his better efforts this year.

-One thing I liked about Gerbe...I didn't see him knocked to the ice even once.

-You can tell when Stafford is playing with more confidence. I thought his game was really solid tonight.

-I'm repeating myself a lot on this point, but Rivet continues to unimpress.

Agree 100% on Miller and Stafford. Good call on Gerbe not going down (unlike Roy earlier in his career), but I thought Gerbe didn't have much of a game tonight. As for Rivet, I'm pretty happy with him. He plays the quiet, tough minutes and he gets the job done. He also made a very sweet pass that led to Vanek's goal (although he didn't get an assist).

All in all, an excellent win. I need to see us rip off a nice long stretch of consistent play though before I get excited.

Yes I did. Go back in the game thread. I called it right after it happened. And they were still trailing by one goal at that point,.

One thing I do know is that sports is all about momentum. When you squander the chances the Pens had last night you lose. That was their third 5 on 3 and it was a full 2 minutes. When they didn't get the goal to begin the period and then didn't score there, I knew the Sabres would win.

Jeanneret after the game: "I wouldn't trust Malkin with a nickel."

my god! its a hard working, second effort, garbage goal by the sabres. That should be on the national geographic channel, not versus. Kotalik tipped it in
goose just laid a hit I haven't seen since umburger.
Great game... Buffalo is taking them down tonight... They are swarming...
Huge win...that is the kind of game that could get things back on track.

This is a game to build on.....

As a Buffalo fan I hate to get my hope up but at least for the last 2 games now I am loving seeing a team effort with Grit.

-Standing guys up at the red line and blue line and making them make a play or knocking them off the puck.

-Finishing Checks.

-Less cross ice passing and dipsy doodleing

-Putting the puck on net.

-Driving to the net.

-Standing up and fighting as needed

Now this is the kind of hockey I could get used to .... Lets keep it boys.

I agree they had great zone possession on the PP tonight... They won a ton of face offs. But when was the last time they scored a PPG? I can't remember..

Did anyone catch what Roy said about their PP? Something along the lines of, "We went back to the box and one...????"

Didn't know what that meant, but DEFINITELY noticed a difference on possession and chances during the PP.

They also did a pretty good job keeping the trailor man in check, except for the first couple of goals of course.

Penalties were a problem, but they were working hard. I still think that "trip" on Crosby was a dive. If Roy was a little more physical he could have knocked him off the puck.

On another note about the defense. Teppo has definitely lost a step, even from last year, but man, sometimes he makes plays that are so pretty and look like he is using no effort at all. Just a thought.

Teppo is sooooo slooooooow now. He's gonna get killed a lot more like he did last night. I hope he holds up, but I won't mind it when he's not on the Sabres anymore. He's a stop-gap until Butler is ready, or some other youngster.
