Claude Balls Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 I was at the game tonight and watch Gerbe a bit. He really didn't have much of an impact. He did have one nice play where he was on the left wing near the circle and did a quick spin move and fired it at the net. He didn't seem out of place, but he didn't have much of an impact. One thing which was good to see, was even though the team seemed to let down after each of the first three goals, they tightened up the game a bit and really came out in the third. The only qualifier is the Bolts are an awful team, so beating them, while nice, needs to be carried into the Penguins game. Miller was really great the last ten minutes or so when the Lighting had the PP and continued on. You could tell he was going to shut it down the rest of the way. As an atmospheric, about 20% of the Forum tonight was filled with Buffalo fans, as usual. It's quite a shock to be able to listen to rock bands outside and have your kids bouncing on a jumpy thing in December. I went to the game there last January and walking up to the place without a coat and seeing the hot cheerleaders out front in shorts was definitely a change while attending a game. There was probably 40% Sabres fans when we were there. Except for that lush in the background sucking down an extra large brewski.

Side note: anybody know why Hecht didn't get the additional penalty in his fight with Lecavalier for not taking off his helmet with the visor? We didn't see how it started, so maybe Vinny didn't give him the chance.
darksabre Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Suck it b***h! aaand I just found my new facebook picture.
Saudi Arabia Rob Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Numminen is killing us on the PP. He looks old tonight. I like Teppo a lot, but watching him from the nosebleed section, his away from the puck play was not good. He seemed to have trouble getting back into position and just about everyone was able to knock him off the puck tonight. Not sure what their defensemen status is and if he is truly a locked in top 6 guy, but I don't think it would hurt platooning him a bit until March or so.
mrjsbu96 Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 i'm sure this has been covered elsewhere by now, but what is it with the "sens" and now "bolts" third jerseys? i like the color schemes on both but using the nickname as your crest/logo seems lacking in an ounce of creativity..
wjag Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Gerbe's game last night was satisfactory but not more. He had one spectacular shot on goal where he seemed to not have a shot and all of a sudden fired a dart right on net. Not much more... Drew a penalty and before it expired ended up in the box with one of his own.. Saw him do one check where he looked to bounce off a bigger guy. I think he was on the breakaway during Hecht's fight. Unfortunately the camera left him and went to watch the fight. Never saw what happened there. Ended up on the ice exactly the same amount of time as TV with 15:09. Was +2 and had 2A. Wasn't a defensive liability and made no obvious mistakes. As one who beat the Gerbe, Gerbe, Gerbe drum all preseason, I definitely want to see more.
inkman Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 I enjoyed the fights. I felt that the Sabres won all three fights tonight. Good team effort tonight and need to play like that every night. I'm not sure what got into them. I don't know if the losing made them ornery, if Lindy told them he wants to see more gloves on the ice, or if they just hate TB. Whatever the reason, I'll take my team playing like that, win or lose. Wasn't it refreshing to see guys actually fighting because they were pissed instead of the typical goon on goon sideshow that has become ritual in the NHL?

At least the Sabres' 3rds don't say "Slugs".

wjag Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Not bad.. In fact I'd go with that over the banana slug..
Stoner Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Spare me the straw men. That method of arguing is for kids. People said he was impressive, I asked them to back it up because many of didn't see anything out of the ordinary. So, while you are criticizing statements that were never made, you went ahead and reaffirmed what many of us stated. Thanks for agreeing with me. You seem to be doing a pretty nice straw man yourself. "People" said he was "impressive." How many people is "people"? Swamp said he was "great," which is a bit of an exaggeration. Seems like most people found his game acceptable to good. There WERE a a lot of things to like. And he was in on at least one good scoring chance when he set up Roy, but Roy had too tight a grip on his stick -- a nice change for him because someone else is usually doing that for him. Here's the lowdown on Gerbe's night: http://letsgosabres.com/gameday/quickhits.php?gameid=225 :)

I have been touting that they show no emotion and what they did last night, win or lose makes me want to watch them. It at least tells us that they are putting forth effort.
LabattBlue Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 This needs to be pinned or something. I'm tired of repeating it. :wallbash:

Stoner Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 People = more than 1. More than one person thinks George Bush was flying one of the planes on 9-11 and parachuted out before it hit the building. You just don't like short people.
SwampD Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 You just don't like short people. I saw a guy hustling whose stick is too short to get to any pucks. You see what you want to see, sometimes, you know? That says it all but I'll say more anyway. I just want to explain a little. I'm not back tracking, just explaining. I used the term great in regards to a kid who is playing in his first NHL game. If he has the same game next year after 50 or so games, maybe not. But he did lead the team in SOG(tied with Roy at 4), was a plus 2, and was not a defensive liability. That's a great game. And if it wasn't, who did have a great game for the Sabres? From what I saw last night, mind you it was one game(plus some of his collage games), I could see him becoming(yes I said becoming, he's not now) a second Roy and maybe he goes with Vanek or Pommenville for a strong second scoring line that we don't have now. But that's way in the future. EDIT;sorry, he was tied with Stafford, not Roy.

You always seem to know everything and are constantly going on the defensive when many people question you're second to none hockey knowledge?

Hecht usually doesn't go and I wondered why. Watching that part over U see LaCavawhatever slash him across the ankle as he skates away. Hecht no likey. Funny later when Goose had a draw on LaCavvy U could see them chatting. I heard in my head Goose sayin' "Would U like the other eye to match?"
carpandean Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Another good one: If I remember correctly, Hecht landed this one well and then, after that, Vinny didn't look like he wanted to fight any more.
inkman Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 If I remember correctly, Hecht landed this one well and then, after that, Vinny didn't look like he wanted to fight any more. If Goose, Mair, Rivet, Yo-Yo, Stafford, Paille, and Lydman would drop them every few games, teams would be a little more leery of pushing our guys around.

Claude Balls Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 It's either around 14/15 seconds that Hecht tags Vinny or around 27 seconds with an uppercut. It's hard to tell from the distance and angles. No replay either. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
