Since I was fired the other day, I present to you the very first GDT which is also a silent thread. I give you this thread because I am a washed up moderator, and also because a silent thread is symbolic of the play of the Buffalo Sabres right now. Just empty space for 2.5 hours on my directv. I pay for center ice, but all I see is flashing lights and nothing more. Therefore:

Shhhhhhhh, we hunting Lightning

Good to hear U survived the riot.

No matter what, Buffalo doesn't have a bum weekend. UB won the MAC Championship last night and has a bid for the International Bowl on Jan. 3 in Toronto!

RIP Corp. It was fun while it lasted!

Great another Buffalo football team that is going to Toronto to play. WTF is this world coming to I ask???

As for the Sabres tonight.......they get struck by Lightning and sent to the ICU. How the hell are they gonna slow down St. Louis and Lecavalier? And is Peters gonna dress so Koci can beat his ass again? Does Buffalo even know that Koci plays for Tampa now? They probably think he is still in St. Louis because it seems apparent that Darcy doesn't look to make deals too soon before the trade deadline.

Can't see that as a bad thing. Maybe it sends a message to the roster that no job is safe, that there are hungry kids looking to make the leap from the AHL to the NHL.

If nothing else, it gives ME a reason to watch tonight when I might otherwise have not.

Not really, I would have watched anyway. But now I it's because I am excited to, not just out of duty.

I agree w/ what you said, but it'd be better if Mancari could stay w/ the Sabres w/ Gerbe coming up. I know he can't because of the cap, but if two players could be used to show players their job is not guranteed it'd send a bigger, more believable message.

Side note. I hope Gerbe goes off and wake this team up, but Kennedy needs to see a significant amount of time w/ the Sabres. He's on a two year contract. How can he prove his worth in one season if he's not in Buffalo enough this year.

I'll be at the game tonight, it will be interesting to see if our fans come out in droves like they usually do. We really gotta beat these guys and pick up a couple of points and a bit of confidence along with it.

Anyone know if this game will be streamed anywhere online? I might want to watch just to see Gerbe for the first time...

Nothing like a 5'5 guy getting in ur face! I agree though, he's probably a stick of dynamite when it comes to playing hockey and hope he can inspire this team to play like they play hockey for fun and not money.

FWIW, i would love to see him mix it up with vinny. That would be a good fight.

Really? I wonder why DR didn't sign him to the standard 3 year entry level deal?

I think it had to do with the year he was in college or how old he was when he signed. I'm not sure if that's right or not but yea, that's what I thought someone said before.

EDIT: Here it is.

Players between the ages of 18 and 21 must sign "entry-level" contracts for their first three NHL seasons. Those aged 22-23 are entry-level players for two years, those aged 24 for a single year.

Things are getting closer and closer to what I want to see. Lindy Ruff is pissed, he's becoming more bench happy, he's being a little more open about his feelings on certain players. If anything, this is how we find out the true colors of this team. Now we see who responds like they care and who decides to cry about it.

Gerbe took the body against everyone in the preseason, this should be a very good game as long as he plays with the intensity I expect from him.

Hopefully this is Lindy playing the call up game. Bring a guy up every week or two and give the rest of the team a taste of what is breathing down their necks.

Maybe he moves Hecht to wing tonight?

Lalime starts? I'd like to see Lindy play whoever is winning games. The old Marty/Ryan style.

I'm not there too often, but you can give justin.tv a try.

Despite his listing in the roster, Grebe hasn't played center in a very long time (if at all.) He has been in a winger all season in Portland and, as far as I know, was used as a winger at BC. I don't know why he's listed as such and Kennedy, who plays at center in Portland, is listed as a winger.

Not only do I thing Gerbe stays at wing, I've posted recently that I'd like to see Roy on the wing. The only problem is that we are then really short(no pun intended) at center!

Okay here we go tonight with the tale of two teams struggling to find their game and consistency. One with a coaching change already another possibly teetering on that brink.

Things I am watching for tonight.

1.) How the team responds for the coach, he's pretty much ripped them in press and practice.

2.) Who starts in goal? my Guess is Lalime tonight Miller in Pgh Monday

3.) How does Nathan play ? If only he played center man that would really help that 2nd line.

4.) How the coach handles the team tonight and in between next game? win or lose

5.) How does Miller respond either tonight or Monday ?

Given the stress cracks we are starting to see on the team with the players and coach I am really curious to see the next several games and the overall attitude of the team during and after the games. Will the coach win the players back or will the players try and get the coach fired?

Either way I am not expecting much from this team because they haven't shown me much last 10-13 games. I am wavering  between another boring nailbiter where we make the other goalie look better than he is but we somehow pull out a win 3-2 or the melt down we stopped playing the coach's system 5-3 loss we have seen a few of lately.

The good news is either way; I won't be drunk, I'm just drinking
