Two or less Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 over rated yes, still a ton better than what we have now. Sekera may be the better player eventually, he's not even close yet. Ok.... and? We don't live in a perfect world where there was a 1 year deal for Campbell. It was either over pay big time for Campbell for 7 years or get Sekera and let him play and learn. If i had to do it over again, i still get Sekera at his age over Campbell right now.
wonderbread Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 yawn. This is almost to much for me to follow here. You can't fire Lindy the fingers need to be pointed at MGMT. Their failure to bring in a play making center while being under the cap is maddening. A move needs to be made, however I don't feel that the infamous axe the coach call is the correct one here. DR needs to stop sitting on his hands in an attempt to preform "the stranger" and make some moves here. Call ups won't work here and no one wants our garbage players. Send some picks some prospects elsewhere to fortify this team now before it is past the point of no return.

sabresnutinphoenix Posted December 5, 2008 Author Report Posted December 5, 2008 Typical Buffalo fan: React emotionally, not analytically, and call for the head of #1. Want to see a team suck? Put this team on the ice with a coach OTHER THAN Lindy Ruff directing them. Peter La Purple? You have to be kidding me. In the worst of times for a Buffalo team, you can always expect the worst from fans. It would be nice if the inverse were true. Alas... I see the problems this team is having but after awhile the players stop listening. What do you suggest?...trade half a dozen players that no one will take (maybe for a bag of pucks)....Guess you like rebuilding teams very slowly...
rickshaw Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Hate to say it, but it's time for a new voice. It really is. Lindy is a great coach, but it's time to move on.
Kristian Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Fire Quinn. Fire Darcy. Fire Ruff. Blow the team up. Tank the next 3-4 seasons. Rebuild from the picks you get.
Kristian Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Ok.... and? We don't live in a perfect world where there was a 1 year deal for Campbell. It was either over pay big time for Campbell for 7 years or get Sekera and let him play and learn. If i had to do it over again, i still get Sekera at his age over Campbell right now. I'd take pretty much anyone over all-star Brian and his sick pricetag (including the home-discount as he chose to call it), seeing as his transition game didn't stop losing us 14 straight last season. Brian was from the same school the current team is - Good when they have someone to lean on, but when the chips are down and everyone looks to a partciular player for leadership, they ask "Why are you looking at me?", and point to the next guy on the bench. Useless without leadership. Every single one.
That Aud Smell Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Quinn controls the purse, Darcy shops for the groceries, and Lindy makes dinner with the food he's got.Its obvious that with the exception of 1 bottle of Cristal and a few decent leftovers that the fridge is pretty empty. as miserable as i am as a sabres fan right now, it's metaphors like this that keep me coming back. this post is spot f***ing on. Fire Quinn. Fire Darcy. Fire Ruff. Blow the team up. Tank the next 3-4 seasons. Rebuild from the picks you get. this is just about where i am with this team (although i could spare lindy, but i don't think a new gm would want to keep the incumbent coach). i will also say that a nice little 15 point run over a 10-game stretch ain't gonna change that (if in fact one is coming). this franchise needs an enema and a heart transplant, i think that's the only way we get a team that's better built for the new-old nhl.
dante23x Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Fire Quinn. Fire Darcy. Fire Ruff. Blow the team up. Tank the next 3-4 seasons. Rebuild from the picks you get. That is the perfect blueprint except they signed too much mediocre talent to contracts for the next 3-5 years (Pominville, Roy, Hecht, Gaustad). We will likely be stuck with our roster as is for awhile longer then we'd like.
R_Dudley Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 So for everyone saying fire Lindy you realize James Patrick becomes the next coach right? Nothing against James Patrick but no thanks. Good player for the sabres, but if I had to choose between the two it would be Lindy hands down. Less we forget that Quinn controls the purse, Darcy shops for the groceries, and Lindy makes dinner with the food he's got. Its obvious that with the exception of 1 bottle of Cristal and a few decent leftovers that the fridge is pretty empty. You Nailed that one with the First BAM.. ;) .. Bam yawn. IMHO opinion now here is part of the dilemma, the core of this team is a little too chummy and I also think way too immature and the re-signing of the core brat pack to keep the boys together here is an added problem. You really only have a few choices and only two really shake it up; 1.) change your coach and or GM becuase your keeping your core of misfits and you want to sell more hope. 2.) break up the core, admit your mistakes, take the losses and concede you are in rebuild mode for next 2-4 years.(not selling hope) 3.) Stand pat, make excuses and minor adjustments and keep promising the future selling hope. Unfortunately with Yogi, smarter than the average bear(read fan here) running the show we all know what he's probably not going to do and therefore know our fate and thats whats really frustrating. :wallbash:
SabreNod Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 You armchair owners will feel pretty silly when this team turns it around and starts winning again. "Here's what to do" analysis from any of us Dayjobbers is more an exercise of EGO than anything else.

Probably true, but when you go 2-8-0 in your last 10, meaning the every team gained on you - in fact, the only teams that didn't gain at least four points on us in the entire league were the cellar teams: Atlanta (gained 1) and Tampa (gained 3) - then there is a lot of reason to be frustrated and question their ability to turn things around, especially when there have been blatant holes that haven't been filled in two years. This is just one way to vent our frustrations. Note: We went from the best record in the East through 15 games, to somewhere between 9th and 11th (depending on how Toronto and Ottawa do with their games in hand) through 25 games.
inkman Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Dayjobbers I prefer Mouse Potato, thank you very much.

Lindy is right when he talks about puck luck - it's a weird thing about hockey. Perhaps it happens as much to other teams, but I wouldn't know because I don't follow other teams that closely. But the Sabres seem to run into hot goalies VERY often. I'd like to see the stats on it but who has the time... I think we outchanced them again but the puck didn't cooperate and the goalie outperformed Miller. If I had to pick one player that I don't think has lived up to his part of the deal this year, I'd have a tough choice between Roy and Miller. Miller seems to be letting in goals that he didn't let in a couple years ago. He's always good for solid saves, but it seems that he gets scored on from shots outside the slot far more than the average. It's troubling. I still believe the Sabres will make the playoffs.
SabreNod Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 I prefer Mouse Potato, thank you very much. I like it! I'm one of those, too. A dayjobbing mouse potato. But not an armchair GM.
That Aud Smell Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 You armchair owners will feel pretty silly when this team turns it around and starts winning again. can't say i will. if this squad were to turn back into lindy's "beautiful machine" and take 15 out of 20 points with a bnuch of 6-5/5-3 wins, i'd enjoy it FWIW while figuratively holding my breath; not unlike how one might enjoy the ride in a sports coupe that coughed and sputtered for 60 highway miles before breaking down entirely, only to turn over the next instant and hum along for the next stretch of road -- you know damn well the problem ain't fixed, even if you're grateful to see the thing running again.
kingcongkorab Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 This team is beyond stale, and now they forgot how to win. You can tell they are getting to the state in losing programs where the players begin to accept the losing, they become almost resigned to it (just look at this years Bills for example). What this team needs more than anything, is a major player shake up. Trade Spacek (are the Sabres interested in resigning him after this year?). Stafford, Roy (They are not bad players but players who we could get some value for). We need some leadership badly on this team. Players for whom losing is not acceptable. The election of newcomer Rivet was a clear sign that the core players were not comfortable in that role-not good. The real problem with this team is that when adversity strikes-they fold like lawn chairs. You could see it last night after Florida got those 2 quickie goals. The 2005-06 team still thought they could win that game, not this years model though. As for Lindy, is a coaching change really going to turn this bunch into winners? Hell I doubt even Scotty Bowman could get these guys back on track. Ruff is a proven commodity, he has gotten this team deep in the playoffs. The trouble cleary is the players, they are complacent and soft.

Darcy has signed a contract extension. Lindy is probably looking to see what his options will be.
spndnchz Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 I don't see Lindy as a quitter. That's what he would be called if he left. Frustrated, yeah, PO'd, yeah, quitter, nope.
nobody Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 He'd be called a prized catch for whatever team doubles his salary.
apuszczalowski Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 I wouldn't be suprised if Lindy realizes he has done all he can with this team. Quinn is now a part owner. Darcy has signed a contract extension. Lindy is probably looking to see what his options will be. when did Darcy sign this extension? I thought he and Ruff signed deals at the same time, and Lindys was for an extra year. Quinn is not going anywhere, and he doesn't have enough pull with who's on the current roster to make much of a difference. Lindy is one of the best coaches in the league, but he isn't a miracle worker who can turn just any group of players into a winning team. Darcy is the guy who decides on the roaster and makes the moves. If the next guy comes in and gets the exact same results (no trades, no FA signings, letting expensive players go and relying on rookies to fill the voids) then we know the problem goes higher, to the top and its the owner where the problem lies Either way, a shake up needs to be made, and in this case, the GM should be the fall guy since you can't just fire half the team.
nobody Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 when did Darcy sign this extension? GM DARCY REGIER SIGNS CONTRACT EXTENSION But looking back now to June 2007; Lindy is signed through 09-10 with a club option for 10-11: Regier, Ruff re-up with Sabres So that means they are both here through 10-11.
Grinder42 Posted December 8, 2008 Report Posted December 8, 2008 It is time...I have loved Lindy...but his tenure needs to be over..hire Laviolette! Ok, Long time Sabres Fan and I watch every game form the comfort of my living room on Center Ice in Raleigh. Hiring Laviolette would be a total downgrade. Sure he beat ruff and won the cup, but mainly because we had a couple of defensemen left and really were down to 1. We still played our off! Ruff is still the man for the job. He has to reach these guys and if he could convince Darcy to trade one of the biggest names packed with Conolloy and Max maybe even Miller he might get a response! On Laviolette, isn't odd that Carolina things the right step is backward? The truth is we have a huge problem that affects our stye of play......WE DON"T WIN FACEOFF"S! Miller can ill afford to freeze the puck, because we cannot win the draw! I personally would like to see Rivet, Conolly, and Max traded in a Danny Gare type deal. Besides, I'd fire Ruff if we could obtain BrinD'amour from 3 years ago! He, as the captain could not get the team to respond to Laviolette. Also, has anyone else noticed that Max,Kotalik,Gerbe, Mancari, Stafford, Numminen seem not to want to play hockey in the Buffalo zone.Gerbe is too young and needs to play in the AHL longer! He provided energy, but was basicly throwing blind pucks at the net. He is incredibly small! Never realized it but Mighty Mouse he may be! No physical presence guaranteed!
