Two or less Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Why in the world would St. Louis do this? Stempniak was one of their best players and most consistant. Steen and Cola have been jokes.
Goodfella25 Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Why in the world would St. Louis do this? Stempniak was one of their best players and most consistant. Steen and Cola have been jokes. This is the same team that threw $16 million at Jay McKee. I think that explains it

I think that explains it  I thought this was a steal for Toronto until I looked at Stempniak's numbers. Not that impressive, granted he's been on a bad team, but still not that impressive.
Chief Enabler Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Leafs need to start their yard-sale, not a bad start at all.
Stoner Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 NO. This means Bucky has to write his "local boy comes home" dreck three more times a season!

Not that impressive, granted he's been on a bad team, but still not that impressive. uhh really? 14 games played, 3 goals, 10 assists. Just below a point per game scorer. That's not impressive? Some of you guys have some unreal expectations. lol

His numbers for his entire career are just over a half a point per game. 38 points in 80 games last year doesn't stand out to me.

He'd be tied for 3rd most point if he played for the Sabres with only 14 games? lol give him 6 more games and he'll probably be the points leader on the Sabres haha
chileanseabass Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 geez.... just yesterday i was thinking, "i wonder if st. louis would ever go for tallinder and max for stempniak." who's the "better" duo (and i use that term loosely)? tallinder and max or steen and coaliacovo?
Two or less Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Definetly Max and Hank. But, with St Louis' free food night for all coming up soon, they are saving like $3 million on Steen and Colaiacovo rather then Max and Hank. I'm sure money played a big part of it.

SabresFan526 Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Wow, Trader Cliff just fleeced St. Louis like he did Calgary when he acquired Gilmour and like he did Quebec when he acquired a young Mats Sundin for Wendel Clark, Sylvain Lefebre, and Landon Wilson, and for that matter just like he did St. Louis when he originally acquired Gilmour from St. Louis when he was the GM of Calgary. The guy can make a trade and usually comes out on the right side of it. I cannot believe St. Louis would trade a young, up and coming star for two highly touted overrated players who are awful. If only McDonald weren't injured maybe the Sabres could have acquired him if the Blues are giving away good players for terrible ones. The Sabres have a bunch of terrible players they could trade away for young, up and coming stars.

Two or less Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 ^^ Blues wouldn't trade him though. I'd love to get Eric Brewer.
DR HOLLIDAY Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Cliff Fletcher gets a deal done, before being sent out to pasture..........
spndnchz Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Which is much better than Connolly's career numbers. Since with the Sabres 173 points in 281 games, that's .62 per game.
Chief Enabler Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 I could think of one to go after:http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/players/Patrik_Berglund/ We could have taken him ahead of Persson in that draft? He strikes me as a prototypical-no-contact-Sabre-forward 3rd line guy; in the same vein as Stafford.
deluca67 Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Since with the Sabres 173 points in 281 games, that's .62 per game. His career points per game is around .55 which is slightly higher than the percentage of games he has played for the Sabres which is around 54%.

Not sure how you get that I see: Minors 1.51 With Islanders 0.91 .4601 With Sabres 0.62 All years 0.80 edit, Islanders number is wrong

Edit: these are for regular season; maybe you added playoffs?

Edit: these are for regular season; maybe you added playoffs? I don't think 20 points in 24 career playoff games is going to bump him from .56 PPG to .80. EDIT: With his playoff numbers included, his NHL PPG is .572. And FWIW, you cannot include his Erie Otters numbers. That skews the argument in a whole different direction.

Not counting anything but Sabre hockey. FWIW, Pommers, Vanek and Roy are .80, .81, and .76 respectively.

No offense, but why do you continue to insist on throwing out his Islanders numbers? Maybe I'm wrong, but Deluca's post clearly said "Connolly's career numbers" so you can't just cherry-pick his Sabres stats to make your case.
