wildcat48 Posted November 23, 2008 Report Posted November 23, 2008 Pirates come crashing back to earth Portland, ME ? It was bound to happen that the Portland Pirates eventually had to lose another game in regulation. Who could believe the Pirates would maintain the pace they were on this season, even the New England Patriots loss in their attempt at a perfect season. They believed in the locker room. Actually, they demanded that sort of perfection. Unfortunately, for the Pirates they fell with a loud thud, as all good things must come to an end. The Pirates gave up six goals, falling to the Hartford Wolf Pack, 6-2, in front of 5,028 at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Saturday night. Link>>>>>>
ExiledInIllinois Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 I know they were home games... And Mancari was the third and second star in both games (Philly and NYI) for the Sabres... Think he was the cause (being called up by the Sabres) of the Pirates "collapse"? ;)
LabattBlue Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Wildcat...how did Dennis look on Saturday? I know he has been playing well and I was just wondering if he also came back to earth, knowing that he is probably nothing more than a career AHL'er or a borderline NHL backup.

No, Saturday wasn't his fault. He was left out to dry by the team as a whole. This was the first time I've seen the Pirates play like this -- no toughness and just really soft with the puck in both ends.. You've heard Ruff talk about playing north-south....well, the Pirates were east-west all night and it led to turnovers and scoring chances in close on Dennis.... Two of the goals were tips because Portland couldn't clear out the zone, one was a turnover in the zone, creating a 2-on-0 and rest were just breakdowns by the D. Weber didn't have his best game or weekend.
LabattBlue Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 -- no toughness and just really soft with the puck in both ends.. Sounds really familiar!
wildcat48 Posted November 24, 2008 Author Report Posted November 24, 2008 Sounds really familiar! Well you want to the farm team to learn the same system eh???? :wallbash:
LabattBlue Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Please tell me that for the most part Weber has brought his physical game to the rink. He really is the only salvation when compared to the rest of the quiche eaters in the minors and juniors..Card, Fund, Gragnani, Brennan, Scheistel, Myers, Persson, etc... The pussification of the Sabres blueline has no boundaries. <_<
Two or less Posted November 24, 2008 Report Posted November 24, 2008 Myers has been tough this season.
deluca67 Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Myers has been tough this season. Define "tough".
LabattBlue Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Define "tough". Exactly. Just because he drops the gloves two or three times doesn't mean anything.
Two or less Posted November 25, 2008 Report Posted November 25, 2008 Fighting and clean open ice hits. I havn't seen any games, but i've talked to a few people who have season tickets. They said the biggest and only weakness of Myers last year was he was shy from making the hits and from fighting. This year it's different.
