SabresFanInRochester Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 I am not going to dump on the team, because I did not expect them to win against Pittsburgh. However, my observations from the last few games were reinforced tonight: Kaleta has not played a ton, but when he has, his trademark hits have been lacking. That's his game, and if he isn't playing it, he's not doing his job. His aggressive nature had been drawing a bunch a penalties. Bring back the old Kaleta. Roy is playing sloppy hockey. I feel like he turns the puck over as much as Max, but he gets a free pass. I have been saying for weeks that he needs to sit the bench for a game. I don't think he is contributing like he should, and not just offensively, but defensively. I know they spit Roy and Vanek tonight. I would have rather seen someone slide up to center with Vanek on the top line. Connelly was a scratch, but I hope for the next game they move him to the top line for a game and have Roy watch for 60 minutes. Please get out of the funk, guys. Go Sabres!
Claude Balls Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 I agree with you. Kaleta has played like a woman the last two or three games he has played. What the hell happened to the guy that would hit anything in an opposing teams uniform? I was thinking Roy needs to be benched as well. He has been horrible so far this year IMO. I think Roy and Max need to sit when glass jaw Connolly and Kotalik come back.
LabattBlue Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Just a hunch, but I get the feeling that Kaleta is being told by the coaches to "play under control and don't run around". Well guess what, those are the things that make him effective. If Mair, Gaustad & Kaleta are not hitting, they are all worthless to the team. Like I said, just a hunch.

Kaleta has stopped hitting, I dont know what to call what kind of game Gaustad is playing other than pedestrian at best. I am still shocked they went into this year with only 2 real centers in Roy and Mair..Its gonna be our major malfunction this year more than anything else I feel...
DR HOLLIDAY Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Roy is playing like he did 3 or 4 years ago..........Not as unpredictable as Max, but not very good for the team nonetheless.
deluca67 Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Where would this team be right now if Vanek hadn't started off so hot? The players look too comfortable out there. This team is in need of a serious wake up call. Sitting Stafford or Paille just doesn't do the trick. Regier needs to shake things up. If the Sabres sit back as they did last year and just wait for the players to work themselves out of it they will be watching the playoffs on TV again this year.
deluca67 Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Roy is playing like he did 3 or 4 years ago..........Not as unpredictable as Max, but not very good for the team nonetheless. He seems more content on trying to draw penalties than creating offense. Every time he flops to the ice he takes himself out of the play. It looked like that was leaving his game last season. It's a bad sign that the diving has returned.
SabresFanInRochester Posted November 16, 2008 Author Report Posted November 16, 2008 It's nice to see I'm not the only one that thinks Roy is way off his game. But, then again, if everyone sees it, doesn't that reveal a pretty obvious issue. Maybe Ruff thinks Roy will play out of his funk. Pommer had a slow start and did not need a day off to figure it out. But then again, Pommer's entire game was not void -- just the goal scoring. Regarding the hitting line -- Lucic crushed us when we lost to Boston. Cook had his share of hits last night against Pittsburgh. No one seemed ready to answer the bell. If the team is being told to be disciplined and avoid looking for the hit, I personally don't like that direction.
2ForTripping Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Who is this Roy everyone is speaking of? Oh yeah the guy on his belly on the ice giving the officials a WTF? look when he swans to try and draw a penalty. His act is getting old. I also remember in the summer when some wanted to put the C on his sweater?!?!? Come on 9 use your talents and play the damn game!
rickshaw Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Didn't Roy say, "if you're not getting better, you're getting worse?" Seems he's doing the latter.
