Two or less Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 There are some guys, if not many guys, on this team who never should've played in the NHL. They have the skills, but they lack the mindset and what's worse - They don't seem to learn from this, either. How many times have we blasted this team for coming out lazy and flat in past years? Too many. Problem is, the front office hasn't learned from this either - They keep making the same mistakes year after year, thinking their group of young guns are magically all going to develop into grizzled vets through the off-season, but that's just not how this game works. They can't let this go on? Why not, they always let it go on? Why change now? We have guys, who with the right supporting cast of grit and muscle, could be true greats one day, but at this point they're just above average soft players on a soft, injury-prone team, playing soft hockey. Don't talk crazy. Come on. Not one guy on this roster you can say that about. Not one.
Stoner Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Oh so now the Lindy Ruff boo birds come out, after I took a one-man bitch-slapping in the other thread. Nice.
inkman Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Oh so now the Lindy Ruff boo birds come out, after I took a one-man bitch-slapping in the other thread. Nice. FWIW, I never criticized your thoughts in that thread. :)
Kristian Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Don't talk crazy. Come on. Not one guy on this roster you can say that about. Not one. Anyone lacking the mindset to play in the NHL doesn't belong in the NHL. I don't care if he can shoot bullets or skate circles around Kristi Yamaguchi, if you don't learn to show up against teams you're flat out supposed to beat, at home to boot, throughout 120+ NHL games, you're doing something WAY wrong. This goes for pretty much everyone on the roster at this point. Christ, even Rivet looks lazy now. Yes, I'm angry after last night, and it'll take something special from them to change that. I don't know, perhaps too many of these "young veterans" won too many games when they were just coming into the league, and somehow they just can't snap out of believing that they're better than everyone else, regardless of how they play. I'm clueless.
wonderbread Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Lalime's fourth goal last night was horrible. After that I lost what little faith I had.
apuszczalowski Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Lindy has to play Lalime more often than every 18 days. That's a joke.He should be playing every 5th or 6th game or for sure once every 10-12 days. Last week Ruff got all jacked about back to back shutouts. Then Atlanta came to town, a team Miller has stunk against many a time, and he played him again. I would have bet that Lalime was slated for that game, but Ruff changed it up because of the SO's. Then Miller plays and gives up some awful goals and they get an OT loss. Lalime is a solid keeper but he must play. I'm tired of the "coach losing confidence" comments, even if they're true. That is one of the faults I see in Ruff as a coach. It's a bad way to view things. He doesn't like how the backup plays, so he overplays Miller. Miller needs a break, backup is stale and plays useless, Miller overplays again. End of season, Miller is tanked and so is the team. Lalime needs to play set games no matter how well Miller is playing. That is the way it is. I saw it in Vancouver. Mika Noronen came to town and had a rough first game and barely played. Alex Auld wasn't used to playing so much and was gassed at the end of the year and sucked as the season wound down. Did the Sabres even play 5-6 games over those 18 days? The schedule has been really light recently over the last couple weeks, and Miller is the #1 guy, so he should be playing the majority of the games, with the backup going in in injury situations, and to give the starter a rest on back to back games, or when they have played a long stretch. As a backup, Lalimes job is to be prepared to come in off of a long rest, so theres no excuse for him not playing well just because he hasn't played frequently.
apuszczalowski Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Totally agree, I said in another post somewhere that he has to play Lalime again soon. Lindy's boys need to learn how to play every night. Miller is no Brodeur so our backup has to play on a schedule similar to what you suggest. Ryan simply does not have the stamina to play like Brodeur can. Miller does have the stamina to play alot of games, the problem is that he needs the occasional break later in the season, and not just early on like last season. His problem ast year wasn't that he played the amount of gameshe did, its that they overplayed him over the final stretch of the season and over worked him. From around January to the end of the season, he played almost every game and the team expected him to carry them into the playoffs
darksabre Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 I think the real title of this thread should be "Do the Sabres hate winning?"
carpandean Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 I think the real title of this thread should be "Do the Sabres hate winning?" LOL, I came in to write exactly the same thing. I was looking down the thread list, saw "do the Sabres hate Lalime" and what immediately came to mind was "I think they just hate winning."
