Eleven Posted November 11, 2008 Report Posted November 11, 2008 http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/st...4E?OpenDocument McKee was my favorite player when he was here, but I knew that $4M/yr was grossly overpaying for an aging defenseman. I hope he's able to get into the lineup tomorrow night.

elcrusho Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 3 goals, 8 Assist's in 119 games in 2.5 seasons. -4 +/- season average so far... $10.5 Million so far he's gotten on my estimate.... So far he's made $1.0476M dollars per point... St. Louis got Ripped!

Kristian Posted December 18, 2008 Report Posted December 18, 2008 I can't help but feel a little sorry for the guy, as he was one of my favorite players when he was here. At least he got his payday, and that's a heckuva lot more than most players with his skillset ever gets. Good for him, sad for Buffalo.

Agreed, we have enough trouble producing young defense men and losing him was painful...........I hope he gets into a string of good luck at some point...........

bob_sauve28 Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 I see Kalinin is playing a regular shift for the Rangers
darksabre Posted December 29, 2008 Report Posted December 29, 2008 http://www.bnd.com/blues/story/586355.html Jay McKee doesn't need fingers to play hockey.
shrader Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Agreed, we have enough trouble producing young defense men and losing him was painful...........I hope he gets into a string of good luck at some point........... I wouldn't say they have trouble, it's just that this team has been very cyclical with their prospects for years now. They'd go D heavy for a while and then bounce back with a forward heavy group. It looks like we're in that transition to a D-heavy group again with Butler, Weber, Myers, Brennan, Scheistel, etc... We haven't had that many in the pipeline since the Kalinin, Tallinder, Campbell, Sarich (and to a lesser extent, Tezikov and Janik) days. I've really never paid too much attention to other teams, but I wouldn't be surprised to see many other systems work on a cyclical nature like that too.
wonderbread Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Jay McKee doesn't need fingers to play hockey. Neither does Joe Sakic to snowblow his driveway.
BuffalOhio Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 I was sad to see him leave. Gotta love his heart.... "You certainly don't want to leave parts of your body at an ice rink," McKee said. "I think it will be OK. As long as I can go back to playing hockey, they can take the finger if they want. "As long as it doesn't affect me handling the hockey stick, it's not the end of the world. I think my wife would prefer I kept my whole ring finger, though."
Kristian Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 i'd a paid him $4million to clean that cut up on his shin. imagine how different all our lives could have been? :( We still would've lost, Carolina were so friggin' lucky that post-season they could've pissed their pants and stayed dry. Anyone remember the game 7 goal that took a deflection and then bounced in off Mair at a close to 90 degree angle? I rest my case. Or was it bounced off mair into the slot, where it hit a d-mans skate and went in? I forget. Either way - Carolina could've lost their own top 4 d-men that year and won the cup, there's no fighting luck like they had during that run.
Stoner Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 You wonder when Jay's wife is going to say, "Honey, it's me or the game." The loved ones have to go through hell.
inkman Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 You wonder when Jay's wife is going to say, "Honey, it's me or the game." The loved ones have to go through hell. I think Jay would have to block the puck with finger 11 to do that.
Lethbridge Broncos Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 Sorry to hear this. Jay was a great player -- and made to play playoff hockey where he would block shots and sacrifice everything to win. He got caught up with the money and his ego swelled. I'll never forget the run he made at Mario Lemiux where he cracked his head open. What guts and passion. sadly, he is washed up now...
inkman Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 He got caught up with the money and his ego swelled. Who exactly would have turned down that kind of money? A player head does not need to swell to take an offer that will set up his family for generations.
shrader Posted January 1, 2009 Report Posted January 1, 2009 Who exactly would have turned down that kind of money? A player head does not need to swell to take an offer that will set up his family for generations. Especially when he's on the downside of his career. The next time he was going to be up for a contract, he was going to be completely over the hill, lucky to get a $1 million offer. That was his first and last chance.
