wjag Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Well what do you know, Vanek, Roy and Pomminstein all get first period goals... This is what we've been waiting for...
FearTheReaper Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I'll be the one to point it out. CONNOLLY PICKS UP AN ASSIST ON ROYS PP GOAL!!!
SabresFan526 Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I like the way the Sabres have come out in the first period. I want to see this continued in the second. I thought the defense has played well, and I really enjoy watching Vanek backcheck. The forwards have played well to support in the defensive zone. Great to see the guys who are supposed to score scoring with Vanek, Roy, and Pominville. Beautiful pass by Sekera on Vanek's goal. And what a beautiful move by Pominville on his goal. Only thing annoying is that even though Connolly got the assist on Roy's goal, he looks really really rusty. This is the problem because he gets hurt, comes back and looks rusty, and then takes 3 games for him to get in sync only to get injured again. Oh well. Overall, great first period.
Knightrider Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I for one don't believe this statement. I haven't seen the proof. He got an assist on the PP goal...
SabresFan526 Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 He got an assist on the PP goal... Let's not get too carried away here. It was a secondary assist on a shot that goes wide that Pominville picks up behind the net and feeds to Roy for the goal. I think any of our defenseman who frequently shoot wide of the net would have gotten the same assist. That's not an assist caused by the vision of Connolly that we have seen in the past. It was just a secondary assist. Nice to see him get on the board though, but I'd say he looks pretty rusty tonight.
thesportsbuff Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Look at all the pro-Connolly posts after just 20 minutes of play. lol @ you guys who said to cut him and that he's useless. I don't see the rust.
FogBat Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 This is more like it........ Wish I was home right now to see the excitement...

I don't see the rust. I think the rust is in his stick handling. Other than the move he pulled to draw the penalty, many of us are use to him being able to dance around everyone between his skates like he use to. Don't get me wrong, The Skill is playing well for not playing in a month.

I honestly didn't know what to expect this year. There is no question he was a disappointment last year, though.
wjag Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 He got an assist on the PP goal... Yes he did, but are you really saying he did anything special on the play?

There is no question he was a disappointment last year, though. well anytime you miss almost half the season it's gonna be a "disappointment." But 40 points in 48 games isn't too shabby.
JujuFish Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 Are you kidding me? Penalty to Gaustad?
wjag Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 Stupid penalty by Guastad... No need to do that... Now Caps have a 5 on 3..
JujuFish Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 Stupid penalty by Guastad... No need to do that... Now Caps have a 5 on 3.. I have NEVER seen that called before. It happens all the time against the Sabres.
wjag Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 That was one heck of a PK... Nice stop by the post...
SabresFan526 Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 Got a great break on the post, but wow Miller made some huge saves on the PK. Your best penalty killer has to be the goalie, and he was there. Great 5-on-3 kill by the Sabres. And back on the PP. Let's keep the pressure on and get another PP goal.
ROC Sabres Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 there's a time and a place. you don't try stuff like that every time you touch the puck. He tried it on his 1st or 2nd PP on the ice, he went into an area where 3 guys were around him. Like I said, he looks good for having not played in a month. I'm not complaining... anymore that is... for now.
wjag Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 Miller leading a charmed life.. Another post/crossbar..
wjag Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 Connolly is moving pretty well out there... Drew a penalty.. Sabres getting badly outshot this period..
JujuFish Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 Vanek!!! I just had a feeling something good was going to happen there.
wjag Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 Vanek... That was SWEET!!!!!!!!! 2 on 1 late.. This SD feed on CSN is crap.. Can't even read the numbers on the PP clock.. Buffalo:   :worthy: :worthy: Das Capitals:
thesportsbuff Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 Timmy was a little less noticable in the second period but still able to draw a penalty and didn't make any mistakes. Overall, a good game for him so far.
JujuFish Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 I just checked, Zubov is way behind Mogilny in points. Zubov has 767 career NHL points, Mogilny 1,032. Kovalev has 882. Someone messed that question up.
