carpandean Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 http://wgr550.com/Sabres-Shake-Things-Up--...kin-Out/3237223 Lindy Ruff held a closed door, 30-plus minute meeting that delayed thestart of Friday morning's Sabres practice at HSBC Arena. When the team took the ice, it was without defenseman Mike Weber. The lines were juggled quite a bit as well, with Ales Kotalik skating with Thomas Vanek and Derek Roy. Clarke MacArthur and Jason Pominville were centered by Tim Connolly, while Paul Gaustad was in between Dan Paille and Patrick Kaleta. Drew Stafford, Adam Mair and Maxim Afinogenov were together, while Matt Ellis, Andrew Peters and Jochen Hecht wore the grey sweaters. The Captials will not have forward Alex Ovechkin in the line-up Saturday night. Ovechkin remains in Russia to be with his ailing grandfather. This will be the second game he has missed. Capitals' Coach Bruce Boudreau expects Ovechkin to be back at practice on Monday. No Peters against Brashear, Erskine, etc.?
Two or less Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Lindy must be pissed that he's gonna unleash Connolly. lol

No Peters against Brashear, Erskine, etc.? That "fourth line" seems like an awfully good checking line that I would be willing to put against any team's top line in the NHL. That's a line that should play good two way hockey.

shrader Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I wonder where they go when Hecht is back. It's pretty clear that Ellis gets placed on waivers, but after that, there will be a few candidates for the press box. The obvious one at the start of the season, MacArthur is locked strongly into the top 12 right now.
Two or less Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Yeah, i'd say it's same to same no way MacArthur is taken out of the lineup. He's developing into a very solid power forward.

Stoner Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I was going to say the return of Connolly should be good news for the power play, but I see the Sabres are 8th in the league. Sure doesn't seem like it's been that impressive so far.
carpandean Posted November 1, 2008 Author Report Posted November 1, 2008 I was going to say the return of Connolly should be good news for the power play, but I see the Sabres are 8th in the league. Sure doesn't seem like it's been that impressive so far. It hasn't been. We've had some meaningless goals like the late ones against Ottawa, including a 5-on-3, and a few that were not the result of any sort of organized PP. It's had some moments where it looked good, but we didn't score, and several where it looked awful, but the puck found its way into the net.
