Two or less Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Sorry for making a separate topic for this but my Halloween party plans fall through and i gotta work at 6 tomorrow so i decided to stay in and order the Portland vs. Norfolk game on AHL Live for $6. Since i paid the money and spend the time watching it, i figured i might as well tell people what i saw. -Jhonas Ernoth was awesome all game long and had a few crazy good saves. He has a very quick glove. What i liked best, was he wouldn't allow to get pushed around. He even got into the face of a Norfolk player after he pretty much hit Enroth with no call. Enroth didn't just go down. He got up and went after the game and that dude actually fell. Then a huge brawl started. lol. But Enroth was my best player on the ice. It was a team effort on defense but he did have several very nice saves, including a semi-breakaway in the 3rd. Enroth ended with 29 saves. -Gerbe scored a LAZER of a shot. The kid flies on the ice. And he's got a terrific shot and we all should know that from pre-season and seeing him play for BC. Each time Gerbe got on the ice, you just thought that maybe, something could have happened. It's the fourth game in a row with Gerbe scoring a goal. He was playing with Gragnani and Zagrapan. -Kennedy was great all night as well, scoring his 2nd goal in the AHL and extending his point-streak to 7 games. Kennedy is just reminds me of Paille. Very quick, hits, gives great effort and is very good on both ends of the ice. Except Kennedy just seems to have an eye for the goal. -Jimmy Bonneau is an animal. The dude just punishes people. He got an assist on Felix Schutz's first North American goal, which the announcers said it was Bonneau's first ever AHL point. So pretty cool. But it was a fluke goal, almost didn't even count as it looked like it was kicked in. But it was Bonneau's size and toughness that i was impressed with. With 3 minutes left in the 3rd, this dude got into a fight. After the fight, refs took him into the box, and then after the refs got everything settled on the ice, took him from the box and escorted him to the locker room.... on his way across the ice the dude almost gets into ANOTHER fight. lol He's crazy. -Weber played well, but i was more impressed with Chris Butler. Butler LAYED out some Norfolk player, i'm not too sure who. But overall, Butler was awesome. With the puck he didn't lose it, was calm and his shots kept getting on net for possible tip ins. Defensively he was sound too, i don't think Enroth was tested once when Butler was on the ice. Weber, considering he arrived at the arena at 3:30 today, played very well too. And had a HUGE hit as well. But i liked Butler's open ice hit more. -What was impressive is, 4 goals and 7 assists on those goals, and yet nobody had a multi-point game. Kennedy and Gerbe obviously lead this team on offense, but it was very spread out. Each line looked good. Even Schutz is a little pez. 11 different players getting on the scoresheet tonight with 1 point each. Very impressive statline. The defense looked good. Paul Baier looked very good as well. Box Score- 1-0 T. Kennedy (2) M. Mancari, M. Darche 2-0 F. Schutz (1) J. Bonneau, C. Fretter 3-0 N. Gerbe (7) M. Gragnani, P. Baier 4-0 A. Slattengren (1) C. Murphy Three Stars- 3. Gerbe 2. Kennedy 1. Enroth
wildcat48 Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Enroth perfect in Pirates win Norfolk, VA ? Jhonas Enroth made 29 saves as the Portland Pirates got back on the winning track with a solid team effort, defeating the Norfolk Admirals, 4-0, in front of 2,392 at the Scope on Friday night. Portland did all their damage in the second period, scoring three goals in a span of 4:54 including two goals in 45 seconds. Link>>>>
carpandean Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I watched one of their games on AHL Live the other night (paid $4 for an archived game a few days after it actually was played.) Good fun, though the audio had some big problems at points. I can't say that I will buy a season worth, but I will probably buy one from time to time to see how the boys look. Sounds like this was another good one.
MajorMinotaur Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 good stuff, thanks for sharing it.
LabattBlue Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Nice write up v-man. I want to check out one of their games online sometime in the next couple of weeks.
Hirly5 Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 I am going to the game tonight. I am looking forward to seeing some of these guys in person. I am sure there will be some Sabres sweaters in the crowd.
X. Benedict Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Thanks V-man. Class A contribution.
LabattBlue Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 It's the fourth game in a row with Gerbe scoring a goal. He was playing with Gragnani and Zagrapan. I completely missed this the first time. Did Gragnanin play up front the entire game? If so... I really think the Sabres could use more depth up front than on the blue line and if Gragnani can build on the 2nd half of last year, maybe he can make it to the show as a borderline 2nd line or 3rd line forward.

Yeah, Gragnani played forward all game. I'm pretty sure that was his first game at forward this season but idk. With Weber back to Portland, and they still have that one dude signed from ECHL who replaced Weber under contract and they have Dylan Hunter and Tyler Bouck missing with injuries so that's why Gragnani was moved up, but i like him more as a forward myself. Btw, thanks for the props, guys. No problem at all giving the summery.
JujuFish Posted November 2, 2008 Report Posted November 2, 2008 Did you ever get that bet going with Amerks6 about whether the Pirates would have a better season than Rochester? Sure looking nice right now.
