nobody Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 He's leading the team in assists - that's gotta help his trade value!
spndnchz Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 I just can't stand watching him anymore. Really, I've finally had it. I've defended him in the past but no more. But what would you do with the bag of pucks you get in return?
carpandean Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 He's leading the team in assists - that's gotta help his trade value! Lets hope that teams look at that and not the fact that he also leads the team in giveaways (and, perhaps more importantly, he leads them in giveaway/takeaway differential with a -8; Spacek is second with a -5, then a few with -2.)
carpandean Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 But what would you do with the bag of pucks you get in return? Put them in the opposition's net, I imagine.
Two or less Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 A player with no value is not a good trading peice. It makes no sense for Buffalo to trade him. They have a better have of just benching him several times after all our forwards return healthy and hope for him to get a spark and get hot.

Then again, Chris Gratton has been traded five times .. and in return teams got players such as Cory Sarich, Danny Briere, Derek Morris and Keith Ballard ... and draft picks that turned into Paul Stastny and Andrej Sekera ... Just sayin', you never know what you can get for these guys who should have "TEASE" tattooed to their foreheads.

Well Gratton played allot better than half of our Forwards espirit de corps last night. Maybe we can trade Max straight up.

Things are different now with free agency. Max's contract is up so the best you are going to get is a mid-round pick. He is also not playing that well. He is supposed to be an offensive player but he is not creating opportunities for himself or his linemates. I just don't think there is a market for him.

Well I wasn't suggesting they could deal him straight up for the next Briere ... hell, at the time Briere was nothing. The point is guys who tease like him always have SOME sort of value ... maybe they throw him in to sweeten a deal, maybe some team just NEEDS some speed and possible offense but doesn't want a long-term guy, maybe they want a rent-a-player ... who knows. There's not a bidding war for him, but all it takes is one GM to think maybe they can get something out of him.
deluca67 Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 If a team is willing to give a 7th round pick or "future considerations" and is willing to pick up the entire contract? Then the Sabres need to make that trade.
R_Dudley Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 I think Lindy would quit. at least you got the sarcasim.. I thought you might suggest Satan. If a team is willing to give a 7th round pick or "future considerations" and is willing to pick up the entire contract? Then the Sabres need to make that trade. I agree and would be willing to accept just getting the salary covered at this time. Max's game has never been defense or Grit/physical and if that's the way Lindy really wants this team to play then the sooner we get's rid of the players that do not fit that the sooner we send the message to the others to start towing that line...

Those are pretty subjective stats. Not worth a lot, IMHO.

Being on a 60-assist pace not good enough for ya? The guy can't win. I'd say he's been one of the better forwards. As usual, he's using his speed to back the defense off, and that's led to a lot of chances. He seems to be distributing the puck better. He's hustling down low and drawing penalties. Turnovers will always be a part of his game. Brett Favre turns the ball over a lot too.

It's like he overskates himself and doesn't know when to put on the brakes to make that timely shot in the back of the net to turn the game in our direction. Am I the only one who is making this observation?

Nobody wants to be that guy who calls out Roy, Pommer, or pretty much anyone not named Vanek or Clarke right now who is stinking it up. Ya, he's turning the puck over again. I notice that, too. But I also notice that he's turning the puck over more than others because he's trying harder to create. And the comment about him not playing with grit was just mindless. This "trade Max" thing has gotten silly at this point. There are SEVERAL guys not playing to their potential right now, he's not the only one. Now if someone says move him because of his contract status, fine, I buy that. But to bash him for not playing well is ridiculous given the "team's performance" of late.

Kristian Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Being somebody who's been on the "get rid of Max bandwagon" for years now, I'm actually a lot more fed up with Roy and Pommer right now. These guys are supposed to be the core of the team, and where are they? Doing each others hair again? I've said it before and I'll say it again - These guys NEED A VETERAN FORWARD. YOU CAN'T LEAN ON THESE KIDS YET. For #%^$#!s sake Darcy, get it done!! And if anyone as much as thinks of mentioning "The Injured One", I'm going to explode. Max trying to do it all himself again is not the problem, as we knew he would. No defense is the problem. No grit without Rivet is the problem. Nobody willing to pay the price blocking a shot is the problem. No goaltending from Miller is the problem. No offense from two of our top 3 guys is the problem. Not Max. That said, it's been two piss-poor games, not fourteen like last year. I remember the 05-06 team starting out much like this. Tearing it up for this first 6 or 7 before going on a 6 game losing streak, making us all go haywire. This team learned that they had to give 110% every night from that very losing streak. My only concern now is the makeup of the current team, as I fear there are too many players willing to just throw in the towel, rather than grit their teeth and get their noses dirty night in and night out.

You mean the "Skill" I believe. The veteran forward presence is where Olli Jokinen comes to mind, having a point per game season so far. Roy, pointless in the last three games.....Max is just useless.
stenbaro Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 For some reason this board decides to grab one player after another and institute a witch hunt..You cant keep trading away or letting good players go..Max is not the problem...He never takes a shift off.Every shift he goes all out..He gives the puck away but he creates oppurtunity..Is he perfect? No..He has flaws in his game..But the man creates plays..Youre witch hunt should be directed at the front office for not replacing players who have left with equal talent..They have relied on their young players and they are either still in diapers or they have choked or shy'd away from the responsibilty..Quit buying into the farce that all these young players are great because they are far from it..

Maybe you should take your own advice when it comes to Max. He just isn't good enough. There is a reason the Sabres haven't traded him. No body wants him. The Sabres are stuck with him and his contract. He'll be on the roster for the remainder of the season and play out his contract.

Are you still hung up opn DB & CD? how bout Kalinin or Ryan? I agree on the front office with you. I'd like to see a splash come this March if things are afloat, but I know it's not going to happen. The only thing I'll give Max is he'll draw a penalty or two a game. I'd like to see Max & Hank gone and perhaps bring in a rental and a Portland newbie. Sounds like Gerbe could replace someone sooner than later, considering Stamkos, Schenn and alot others are gaining about 8 minutes plus a night experience. Meanwhile we got the Peters, Kaleta & Ellis a combined 27 games, zero points, -5.
