Sabres on the loose

Snapshots:

Mair with his tongue out during a fight on Long Island.

Vanek and Kotalik falling to the ice together after a goal, having a blast.

A "pigeon" in the lockerroom.

Stafford asking "which one" when asked about his goal, yucking it up with the media

Miller joking about his own goal

Ruff ending practice with a drill where a player has to score into the net at the opposite end to cancel final laps, asking Miller to do it, then pointing to his own net

This team is loose and relaxed and having fun. I don't think it's all explained by winning either. I think they came into this season rested, underrated, with the pressure off and Drury and Briere ancient history.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm enjoying the hell out of this too.

Well said. Its time to forget about how they got here and realize that they just may have something special developing.

I'm just sitting back and enjoying it and as optimistic about the future of this team then I have been in a long while.

Great post, PA. You do get the feeling they are finally over the Drury/Briere/Campbell issues. The FO has committed to these guys, and I think they are glad to be Sabres.

It's all good feelings right now...

Dear God. The end is finally near - isn't it?

Yes. Put your head between your legs and kiss your ass goodbye. I'm sure it's a position you're familiar with.

You had to ruin, didn't you? You're always sucking the joy out of me.

Nothing changes attitudes like winning.. Nothing drags down the coach, players and fans like losing...

Considering how bad the economic news is, the unending election, and the never ending assault on our pocket books, the Bills and Sabres have given us WNYers and Southern Ontarions something else good to focus on.

It truly has been a fun September and October... And here's to hoping the whispers surrounding Whitner aren't true and Rivet and Hecht come back healthy.

I think Rivet put it best....this is a team that grew up together.

This was really the team that I thought would emerge last year.

I'm especially pleased by the fowards commitment to team defense.

Although I would never go back to the Drury - Briere thing and call it addition by subtraction...

sometimes players are never going to emerge if they are playing in somebody's shadow or contract distractions such as Drury/Briere in 2006-07 and Campbell in 2007-08.

This point streak is going to give the team a lot of flexibility and ability to play alertly and relaxed rather than all the squeezing and pressing and forcing to make plays last year.

It's going to be fun.

These guys had to learn how to do it on their own and BTW it's much more gratifying now.

The lumps from last year have turned into fruition for this year.
