ROC Sabres Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 One trick pony Drew Stafford  I was saying to myself before he went, he better not try the backhand cuz they have his number on it. I still think they shoulda looked at Vanek's shot. I think that might have went in under Budaj's pad and the ref was on the other side and couldn't see.
Chief Enabler Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 Is it about time to switch up Ellis & Kaleta?
Eleven Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 Well, it's 3-3 in Vancouver after two, so that's where my attention is headed. G'night, all.

I though that too.......i could have sworn i saw the puck cross the line under his pad.
Bmwolf21 Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 that's just because we lost tonite. Nah, we've had this debate before. The shootout is nice at the skills competition, but it's no way to decide a game. I'd much rather see 4-on-4 OT for 10 minutes than a shootout. Ok. wjag does this a lot. I don't think they are avatars, though, but I'm not sure. In any event, the yellow head with the knife in it means a goal against. And the yellow head with the black hood above and below means a goal for. Or so I've gathered over a couple of years. To sum up: "stabby face" bad; "hoodie face" good. Still too confusing for those of us who aren't watching. I beg of you guys - in shootouts just post the player's name and save or goal.
Ohiofan Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 I though that too.......i could have sworn i saw the puck cross the line under his pad. Me too. They should have looked at that.
ROC Sabres Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 I though that too.......i could have sworn i saw the puck cross the line under his pad. Yea, I just watched the slow-mo on DVR and the puck was nowhere to be seen until he lifted his pad outside of the goal. Pretty sure he got that one, either way, a points a point. Wish they woulda showed the overhead.
Two or less Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 One trick pony Drew Stafford  Seriously? Stafford was great in shootouts while he was in Rochester. But, Jussi Jokinen i believe holds the record for most consecutive goals in the shootout with like 9 straight, all on the same play. Stafford has been perfect with the shot, so why not. He missed once, it's not time to start laughing at his shootouts though, come on, that's a bit getting carried away i think. He's been playing very good and he's very good in shootouts. I once saw Lindy Ruff say in pre-season in an interview, that last season Stafford was horrible in shootouts but in practice he was almost near perfect. Said he didn't have confidence and was too nervous.
carpandean Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 been perfect with the shot, so why not. Exactly! Have to copy Kote's new shot from tonight for the next one, though.
Fenix Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 wgr550 reporting tallinder injured, was that during the first 2 periods? because i missed those
wjag Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 The AVs announcers said somewhere late in period three that the Sabres were down a D man, but they didn't say who. I figured it was Tallinder... No idea what happened to him..
carpandean Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 Glad to see them get back to focusing on "team defense", holding another high-scoring team (the highest, actually) to just one junk goal.

Fenix Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 i liked what i saw from weber at the end of last year. be nice to see him back getting meaningful minutes

nobody Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 Gotta feel bad for Miller - that should have been a shutout. Lindy should have thrown the red flag on that non-call goalie interference :)
SabresFan526 Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 Again, I'm a little late to this thread, but what a solid defensive effort by the Sabres even after losing Tallinder. Had it not been for a freaky goal off of MacArthur's helmet, Miller probably would have gotten the shutout as he played exceptionally well last night. It's one of those where you wish we got the win, but you'll take 3 out of a possible 4 points on this road trip. And the fact that we have points in every game played thus far is going to be really important down the stretch. Overall my thoughts: 1. Miller was fantastic last night. The Leopold goal was a total fluke. I think he probably could have made the save on Smyth's shootout, but he probably isn't in that position if either Vanek or Stafford score earlier. 2. Not sure I agree with the MacArthur decision on the shootout. I think I would have preferred Pominville in there shooting his wrister high glove side before letting MacArthur in there, but apparently the General was quite good in the shootouts in Rochester, so I guess you go with that. 3. I thought the team defense was really solid throughout the game holding the highest scoring team to only one goal. Towards the end of the third, though, Colorado really began to dictate play and force the play in the Sabres zone, and Miller made some fantastic saves. Overall, defense played well and the goal was a total fluke. 4. I know I know it's October and not July, but man, it would have been nice to see John Michael Liles go to July 1st and play in a Sabres uniform. That guy showed some solid hitting last night and man does he go in deep in the offensive zone when he pinches. We've got Sekera and I think he'll not only become that type of player but he'll be better defensively too, but it's fun to see an offensive defenseman that aggressive on the rush. 5. Defenseman played really well after Hank went down. They played well with the more ice time. Although, I did notice that instead of playing 5, they mostly played 4 and threw Paetsch out there only rarely. The numbers correlate as Paetsch had the least amount of ice time of the 5 remaining with only 15:58. Looking forward to seeing Weber on Monday night against the Sens. Overall, last night's game was a very winnable game for the Sabres, but you take the point and know that you have 3 out of a possible 4 points on the road trip. And with that point and Montreal's loss, the Sabres are standing alone atop the division and in second place in the conference with 3 games in hand on the Rangers with a head-to-head victory. And, another testament to the stellar defense the Sabres are playing, they lead the NHL in goals for and against differential scoring 12 more goals than given up. It's a loss, but we got a point, are first in the division, don't have a regulation loss and should be positive going into HSBC against Ottawa. Let's crush the Sens!!!

Lol, well, I'm on a bunch of boards (mostly Bills related) so I usually come here to peruse the latest Sabre happenings. The Sabres have less turmoil as a franchise than the Bills so they're not as much fun to discuss ;) I have thousands of posts about the Bills tho' (no surprise). Actually I was just confuzzled about the "avatar/smiley faces"....I didn't know what they were representing, but I figured it out after both second round guys missed. I was antsy to see what was going on in the shootout that's all.
inkman Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008 Is it about time to switch up Ellis & Kaleta?
carpandean Posted October 26, 2008 Report Posted October 26, 2008  My feelings exactly. Kaleta is not a center and Ellis is not an agitator, so I'm not sure how they would be "switched".

Then again, I've never gone over to TSW over at TBD.

The second half of the third the D was hanging on for dear life with the longer shifts. They ground out a point. That's what counts.
