carpandean Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Nevermind the fact that they don't currently have a reserve forward either. Good point. Dressing Weber and bringing Paetsch along gives you a full playing roster, plus one backup player that can fill in at forward or defense.
shrader Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Good point. Dressing Weber and bringing Paetsch along gives you a full playing roster, plus one backup player that can fill in at forward or defense. That is something they need to stay very far away from. Forwards play forward. Defensemen play defense. Don't go messing with that. It can mess with a player's head and development.
R_Dudley Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Nevermind the fact that they don't currently have a reserve forward either. Whoa missed thinking through that one before I posted the idea,,,,,, but hey I heard connolly is skating again maybe he could play D. :nana:

That covers two positions then doesn't it. Albeit not very well.. so I will have to admit to being shraded... :bag: (akin to being schooled in my books)
nfreeman Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Is this where DeLuca says Rivet should man up or retire? outstanding.
bob_sauve28 Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 ACK!!!!! :death: Oh f*** But on the bright side, at least it hapened early in the year
frisky Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Lindy says Lydman Tallinder, paestch numminen, sekera spacek.

Although, i do agree with you, but i think Paetsch holds a bit of a plus as a extra body because, he plays defense but grew up as a forward, and was even drafted as a forward, until Sabres coaches could work with him hands on. Same with Gragnani, except the opposite, he's a defensman turned forward.
shrader Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Albeit not very well.. so I will have to admit to being shraded... :bag: (akin to being schooled in my books) Actually, I was just backing up your statement that they probably need to call someone up. Like you said, heading out west for a couple games with no reserve skaters is a risky move. I know someone was joking about it, but Connolly is probably the closest one to being ready and we all know how likely that is. With Paetsch and Gragnani, the switch happened at the right place, while they're developing in the AHL. I hate seeing players bounce back and forth between positions at the NHL level. All it tells me is that you're not good enough to cut it at either position.
Two or less Posted October 22, 2008 Author Report Posted October 22, 2008 Once again, you're right. Paetsch isn't good enough to make it as a full timer. He's had the chance to impress and failed. He's got another chance, although much smaller window, to impress and show why he deserves to play regular minutes in the NHL. We'll see what he's made out of in the next two or so weeks.
darksabre Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Balls. Now we get to see if this team can win without Cappy.
stenbaro Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Lindy says Lydman Tallinder, paestch numminen, sekera spacek. Great the terror twins are back together...
Two or less Posted October 22, 2008 Author Report Posted October 22, 2008 Balls. Now we get to see if this team can win without Cappy. Minnesota will be tough, but even with Rivet. Colorado though, i think Lindy should let the offense go free. The Aves have a goalie disaster right now. Both Raycroft and Badaj both are allowing like 5 goals per night. lol
LabattBlue Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 I hope the Sabres are going to call a player up. I don't like the idea of not carrying at least one healthy "extra" player on the team in case of an injury during the game day skate or something else prior to the game(illness).
2ForTripping Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 Wasn't this surgery talked about in another thread on here? It was spoken as a planned tune up of 52's knee. A bit of nip this in the bud before it worsens . If I recall correctly it was scoffed at due to the fact it was a speculated rumor.
carpandean Posted October 22, 2008 Report Posted October 22, 2008 With all of the recent injuries, I think we are seeing that it isn't just the players that are making this team successful, it's a new system and a new mentality. With that it mind, hopefully we can cover for Craig while he's out. I hope Lindy is spending a little more time in practice focusing on the "team defense" concept again, because at times in the last two games, they've seemed to forget that. It will be even more import now. The O will have to help make up the difference in our own end.
carpandean Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Who gets the C in Rivet's absence? Lindy said that they may just go with 3 A's, but that he's not really worrying about that right now.
inkman Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Who gets the C in Rivet's absence? Do NHL teams normally re-assign the captioncy (is that a word) due to short-term (crosses fingers) injuries?
tom webster Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Although, i do agree with you, but i think Paetsch holds a bit of a plus as a extra body because, he plays defense but grew up as a forward, and was even drafted as a forward, until Sabres coaches could work with him hands on. Same with Gragnani, except the opposite, he's a defensman turned forward. You might want to tell Moose Jaw to get their award back since they voted Paestch defensemen of the year as a 16 year old. In all seriousness, both Washington and Buffalo drafted him as a defensemen and Buffalo converted him to forward although Lindy has stated that he doesn't like him there. As for the roster, remember a lot of this is about money. Buffalo is notorious about saving those pennies by only calling up guys when they asbsolutely have to and over the course of three years they have had to go into a game short handed only once when Briere got sick and they won that game anyway.
That Aud Smell Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 captioncy (is that a word) sure is (spelled "captaincy," i think (yeah, i neither toggled over to Word spellcheck nor to Google)).
inkman Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 sure is (spelled "captaincy," i think (yeah, i neither toggled over to Word spellcheck nor to Google)). I guess I need to figure out why I spelled captain like caption. :wallbash:
inkman Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 Buffalo drafted him as a defensemen and Buffalo converted him to forward although Lindy has stated that he doesn't like him there. I honestly can't remember many games where he played forward as an Amerk.
nfreeman Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 I am more than a little concerned about the prospect of major backsliding from Tallinder (who's still been a bit shaky but nevertheless better with Rivet this year than Lydman last year, and actually, I thought, quite good vs the Bruins) and Lydman (who I think has responded very well to playing with Teppo). I also don't like the fact that 2 of our 3 pairings are now both righthanded shots (or is it lefthanded?). OTOH, I am cautiously optimistic that Paetsch will seize the opportunity and play well, esp. paired with Teppo.
tom webster Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 I honestly can't remember many games where he played forward as an Amerk. I don't think he ever did. If I remember correctly, it was a two or three game experiment in Buffalo.
