ReneRobert Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 NFN, but wasn't his info pretty much on the table during his last contract negotiation? He was known as "Tiny Tim" before his breakout season in 2005-2006.
Bmwolf21 Posted October 23, 2008 Report Posted October 23, 2008 For all the Gaborik coveters, be careful what you wish for...Here's an article that hasa theme that's all-too-familiar: the often-injured player who wants money: http://www.startribune.com/sports/wild/320...yKUnciaec8O7EyU If you're using Connolly as the measuring stick, then Gaborik is a veritable IronMan. Gabroik does miss games and does have groin problems, but he's played 65+ games in every season but one. And I'd overpay for a guy that puts up 42 goals in 77 games while playing hurt and in a trap. I'm just saying. You know, I had a semi-long post going and I just decided ... I'm just done with the guy. I don't wish bad things on him, if he should somehow get in the lineup and play well and help the team I will certainly be happy ... but i am done thinking about it. I'm like Anthony Michael Hall's dad in Weird Science, my memories of him have been erased: Who is this Connolly character? That's pretty much where I am now. I just can't get worked up either way about Connolly. I liken it to lending money to someone I don't expect to pay it back. I figure it's gone but if it does get paid back, it's a nice little bonus.

nfreeman Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 connolly's perceived as a guy with no heart, rocks for brains and/or a penchant for heavy, destructive, untimely drinking. Pretty harsh if true. I saw that in Bucky's chat too (and btw, I've been as critical of Bucky as anyone, and I still don't think he adds much value, but I find myself agreeing with him quite a bit these days), but that was the first time I'd read anything at all like that. Certainly he was regarded as a soft, immature underachiever before the lockout, but my impression was that since then, everyone internally was really impressed with how he had gotten his act together. I'd be curious to know whether anyone has anything specific on unhappiness with him within the organization since the lockout (or any binge drinking or other meatheaded behavior since then). I'm just done with the guy. I don't wish bad things on him, if he should somehow get in the lineup and play well and help the team I will certainly be happy ... but i am done thinking about it. wjag Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 If Connolly does come back, I hope they adjust how he plays on the PP. I'm probably alone in this observation, but I don't believe he adds much to the PP as a "QB". If I'm the other team scouting the Sabres, I know that the guy never (okay rarely) shoots and passes the puck just about every time. He's always hanging out around the top of the circle to the halfwall. It was driving me nuts last year. He needs to shoot the puck more. We don't necessarily need a point guard always looking for an assist. We all want THAT Connolly back who won the improbable comeback against Ottawa. We need Connolly the goal scorer. IDK, maybe THAT Connolly doesn't exist and never did. Maybe the Ottawa game was an aberration and we and the Sabres are hanging on to a false hope.
Buffalo Wings Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 He's just too unreliable. It's like a girlfriend on the phone telling her guy she's gonna do nasty things to him later on when they get together, only to have her show up and hear she's got a headache. How long have you been married? I've been having a hard time with this one, but I'm willing to give Connolly one more chance. Needing to rely on him last year was probably one reason (among several) that they missed the playoffs, but I say we give him one more go. I just have a feeling with this current team that once he comes back, they'll be a much more formidable team.

When I read posts that suggest the Sabres need to give Connolly time and additional chances I think of the TV show Cops that always has that one beaten women at a trailer park yelling to the camera "I'll still luuuve him" while the Cops arrest her boyfriend for the 100th time. To read that while the Sabres stick by this kid and pay him millions of dollars to do nothing he's out having a great time pounding drinks like a college kid. If this is true it is a real slap to the face of those in the Sabres front office that showed great faith in him despite getting little to nothing back in return. I doubt the Sabres would just release him. Hopefully there is enough frustration in the front office to ensure that Connolly current contract with the Sabres is his last.

I'm like Anthony Michael Hall's dad in Weird Science, my memories of him have been erased: Who is this Connolly character? That's a great analogy, and completely describes how I feel about him. Only thing I do hope for is that there's someone in the front office telling Darcy "I told you so" every damn time they get the chance, cause he deserves just that.

Well from what some have said, perhaps Darcy is the one telling Quinn "I told you so" ...
SabresFan526 Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 Well from what some have said, perhaps Darcy is the one telling Quinn "I told you so" ... I think this is very apt. I don't care what anyone says, but I strongly feel that Connolly's dad being high school buddies with Quinn has a lot to do with why Connolly is still with the Sabres. In fact, I think that is the only reason he may end up getting re-signed again, but I really hope not. He adds nothing to the team as he never plays. I'm fed up and given how well this team has played so far, I'm not sure what he adds beside forcing MacArthur to be a healthy scratch, which right now I don't think is justified. I'm with BTP and Wolf on this one, if he comes and plays, great, if not, we're doing well without him and don't need him.
That Aud Smell Posted October 24, 2008 Report Posted October 24, 2008 In fact, I think that is the only reason he may end up getting re-signed again no way in hell this happens. no way. ... right?

I understand your reasoning and I won't argue with it. I've just seen a number of times where a team cuts ties with a player (be it too soon or not) and it's come back to bite them. I know, I know....this is Connolly we're talking about. Let's just see if he can finish the season (whenever he comes back), then deal with it afterwards.

I keep seeing people reference his comments, but I have no idea what was said.

IMHO, a sign that this could be a great team, if you take any one piece out of the Sabres they still have a good team.
