I initially said four weeks for how long he would be out. Madam Speaker, I'd like to revise and extend my remarks... So ordered..... I'll go with eight weeks now..

We as fans can (and probably should) mentally move on, and I would expect that Lindy and the coaches aren't banking on anything out of him, but as an economic matter, the Sabres can't "move on" in the sense of replacing him with an expensive veteran. It's not a cap space question, it's a cash budget question. Timmy is making $3.5 million this year, and the Sabres simply aren't going to just eat that sum, stick him on IR to get the cap space and bring in another $3MM player. Now, they might "move on" in the sense of bringing up Gerbe or someone else from Portland, but not with a new player unless they unload Max or Connolly.

Can't they just put him on IR and move on already?

Oh come on. Everyone's frustrated by his constant injury problems, most of all TC, but there's no debating his value when he's on the ice. We should be cheering him, not jeering him.

I hear you on this. He is very good when he's 100%, but he just can't seem to hold that consistantly. Not sure what to do at this point, but ride it out. Is there room to sign another vet Center? Not sure on the rules/cap thing.

Second concussion. Did you see how hard Schaefer hit him? Give the guy a break. And half way through that year, they found out that most of his headaches were from neck problems, not the concussion. You can blame the Sabres medical staff for some of that missed time, too.

Look, I'm as frustrated with this guy as anyone, but you can't argue with his skills when he's healthy, and he helps the team immensely when he is.

No can't argue with the skills he has on the ice, but you can't see that when he's up in the booth all the time. When/if he comes back, the next time he goes out from an injury, cuz you know he will, something better be hanging the wrong way.

I listened to his interview on Sabres TV, he said it happened in his first shift in the Roberville game. Someone either butt-ended him or elbowed him in the back......i'm sure he's just as frustrated as we are......he's just one of those athletes that will never reach his potential......it's too bad cuz he is probably a top line center.

I've seen a lot of dumb posts on this board, but this one just might top them all. Do you want to compare a random paper cut to last year's Zednik incident next?

Tim Connolly - concussion - Time to recover? From what? The concussion or the misdiagnosis? Had his jaw/neck problems been properly diagnosed and treated he would have been back far sooner. Unfortunately the headaches caused by the jaw/neck problems were attributed to the concussion and he never went that full week without going symptom-free.

What was his consecutive games streak before he got hurt the first time? Yeah, he's just not built for hockey.

The kid has had bad luck with a series of unrelated injuries. Anyone eles around here think they could play with two cracked vertebrae?

And the comparison to Edwards' concussion is ridiculous. Not all concussions are created equal. Nor are they sustained in conjuction with a major jaw injury. Plus, as noted by the poster above, this was Trent's first concussion.

GO SABRES!!!

First, like a couple of people have said, comparing the Edwards injury to Connolly's is ridculous and I'm most of us just dismiss posts like that.

Second, I think most of us know that as frustrated as we are, the organization is doubly frustrated. Unless you know Connolly perosnally, nobody can really know how frustrated he is.

Like someone else said, there is nothing they can do at this point. Whether you believe their numbers or not is irrelevant. Tom Golisano and his partners have put the limit on payroll spending at aroung $50 million and since the contract was never able to be insured, we are stuck with it till year's end. I said I voted for IR, but not in expectation that they would replace his salary but rather that they would move other salary to replace him knowing that he is not coming back.

Finally, I am sure that someone else will take a chance on him next year and while it is unlikely, he may play ten more years and some of us will post things to the effect of I told you so. However, as long as the budget is in the bottom third of the league, there is no room for speculative contracts. Right now Buffalo is in the bottom of third of the league in payroll and getting nothing or almost nothing from almost 25% of it.

There in lies the problem. How does Tim's brittleness affect the room? How does it affect Lindy? I am not booing the individual but rather the situation that management put them into. Everybody with half a brain on this board came to the conclusion that counting on Connolly this year was insane. Yet there managemnet was, slotting him to be the #2 center.

Luckily the Sabres have gotten by with a derth of actual centers on the team but if this teams record was reversed, there would be a giant #%^$#! storm on this board.

25%? Where does this come from? Max and Timmy together are $7MM.

No i dont compare the paper cut to the zednik incident but thanks for the dumbest post award. I will cherish it. I figured someone would have given that to ink a while ago :D

I am still pissed off they went iinto the season counting on him..What a waste..We needed to have a 2nd line center in here and we have Jochen Hecht???? Connoly cant be trusted to play half a season let alone a full one...And Hecht is a winger!!!..This will bite them in the rear at some point...

No we don't have Jochen Hecht, as he's injured as well.

Sorry, not intended as a rag on you, but I couldn't resist the chance to further illsustrate the predicament management put the team in by counting on Connolly.

The line in bold from the article says it all...

Tim Connolly, who has yet to play for the Buffalo Sabres this season because of two fractured vertebrae in his back, returned to the ice this morning for the first time in 11 days. He will not, however, play in tonight's game against Boston in HSBC Arena, and there is no timetable for his official comeback.

Lets recap...

1.Connolly sits out most of the preseason games(maybe all of them).

2.It is reported that the entire week before the opener that Connolly is skating hard and ready to go.

3.At the last minute he does not dress for the opener.

4.Now it is reported that he has a cracked vertebrae.

5.Lindy says he will be out a week.

6.A week comes and goes without any news.

7.Now there is no timetable.

I really think the Sabres need Connolly if they plan on going anywhere this year, but what a joke he has become.
