ROC Sabres Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Sabres still perfect on the PK.. By about an 1/8th of an inch. I'm happy about it, but that was a close one. EDIT: just noticed at the end of the period that Miller is wearing the protective neck guard.
wjag Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Weird goal? From behind the goal?? Bernier gets it Buffalo:     Canucks: :death: :death:
ROC Sabres Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Tallinder needs to be gone. He gave the puck away twice behind the net that led to the goal. He's playing scared and needs to stop. Granted it was a weird goal, he looks like every time he touches the puck he is looking over his shoulder and just slapping at it so he doesn't get hit. He's my new whippin' boy.
wjag Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Vanek made the play but Kotalik got a fat rebound for his fourth That's as good as it gets folks.... You just got to LOVE these Sabres That was an absolute laser by Kotalik from 21 feet Buffalo:      Canucks: :death: :death:
ROC Sabres Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Who is wearing Vanek's jersey? I've never seen him play such good two way hockey. Amazing!
Eleven Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 You just got to LOVE these Sabres Oh, I don't know. There must be a few that stick to the "sugar packet" theory, right? Hey, you all? Are you here? Blind, suddenly, and can't read? Hello?
SabresFan526 Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Vanek with 6 and Kotalik with 4 in 4 games. Vanek has been on fire, but Kotalik has been putting together a nice season in the final year of his contract. I know Kotalik is a lot of people's favorite whipping boy on this team, but honestly, I'd be okay keeping him over Connolly and Max if it came down to it at the end of the season. But of those three, my prediction is that Kotalik and Max leave and Connolly stays with a very low contract i.e. 1 year $1 million. Either way, Vanek with a great effort and great play both on defensive side to tip the puck and then to chase it, draw the penalty and then get the puck into the slot for the huge one timer by Kotalik.
wjag Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Some not so random thoughts... 1. Great first period. Stepped on their throat and they never recovered. 2. PP chips in another pair tonight and the PK stayed perfect. Not a single bad penalty by the Sabres. Kaleta getting called for a dive was questionable. 3. Pretty good transition out of the zone. 4. Sabres blocked a ton of shots again and clearly outhit and outshot them. 5. Roy was a second late all night... 6. Didn't notice Paille and Pomminstein that much tonight. 7. Vanek is on a hot streak and his play is noticeable in ALL aspects of the game. 8. This game was never in doubt. 9. Rumor has it that the Sedin twins played in Buffalo tonight... Anyone see them?
SabresFan526 Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Overall, good win for the Sabres. A game they should have won at home and against the Vancouver backup goalie. I like the way the Sabres played tonight on offense. Scored some goals and Vanek and Kotalik playing really well right now. Not much to complain about with this win, but I do have a few concerns that I'm sure will get fixed soon: 1. Roy and Pommer have been pretty quiet thus far in the season. Not much to be concerned about as I'm quite confident they'll get it going, but quiet games from both of them tonight 2. I felt like the defense was pretty good, but a little sloppy at times tonight. First goal was a nice shot by Kesler, so give them credit there. Second goal, looked like Lydman got caught running around in the zone and leaving Bernier open right on the door step to get the tap in goal. I also felt like Tallinder played a pretty mediocre game where he had some turnovers and difficulties handling the puck. 3. I love Kaleta and he's quickly becoming one of the best pests in the game. I like the fact that he draws a lot of penalties giving what seems to be a pretty hot PP a chance to score. But, I do think he needs to defend himself and drop the gloves every now and then otherwise he will be known as Claude Lemieux with far less talent around the NHL. What I'm happy about: 1. Needless to say, Vanek is a beast right now with a goal and two assists tonight. He's been on fire to start the season. 2. Kotalik has played very well with 4 goals thus far and is second on the team in scoring behind Vanek. 3. Spacek and Sekera had their best games thus far since the season began. I love seeing Spacek score goals with the slap shot on the PP and almost got another on the 4-on-3 PP in the third. I got on Sekera during the Rangers game, but he played very well tonight joining the rush and pinching, reminded me of Campbell. The aggressive Sekera who is confident with the puck is the one I want to see, not the tentative one who mishandles the puck which I felt he had done in the first 3 games. Tonight was a great game for him. I'm happy with this win and hopefully it can carry over into tomorrow night in Atlanta. I'm expecting Lalime to get the start in Atlanta. The Sabres need to play like they did against the Rangers and Habs and that is a recipe for success the rest of this season.

I was thinking the same thing. Kotalik has been a good deal. I still would like to see Max traded, if possible, even though he is playing much better this season...
Claude Balls Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Oh yeah, the one with Lamont? That was a funny show. What with the opposing goalies lately. First Ronald McDonald and now Fred Sanford??? I'm liking Buff tonight 5-2 Ahem.......Think I hit that one on the head plus I voted for 1 goal from TV. How bout that, Sabres on Fire, Vanek on fire and now Rayzer32 on fire. Keep it up boys!!!!
Taro T Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Anybody else in WNY w/ DirecTV not getting the Shootout? 1st chance I had this season to catch the postgame show, and the tech at DirecTV is claiming they aren't even getting it in their office. Bummer.
SwampD Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Ahem.......Think I hit that one on the head plus I voted for 1 goal from TV. How bout that, Sabres on Fire, Vanek on fire and now Rayzer32 on fire. Keep it up boys!!!! Days that the Sabres have a game are just so much better than days they don't. I get too much done on those other days. Sabs 5-2 I had you beat by 10 hours.
Eleven Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 I had you beat by 10 hours. Both of you, nice calls!
SwampD Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 I only saw the last half of the last period. How did Ellis look and how much time did he play. The little I saw he looked green. Good but green.
wjag Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 I only saw the last half of the last period. How did Ellis look and how much time did he play. The little I saw he looked green. Good but green. He was invisible... Not good.. not bad...
will Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 ...and now Rayzer32 on fire. positively flaming.
Eleven Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 He was invisible... Not good.. not bad... That's two games in a row, and given the role Ellis is supposed to play, invisible is good. I'm happy with it.
SwampD Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 That's two games in a row, and given the role he's supposed to play, invisible is good. I'm happy with it. Absolutely. Knowing he's a short timer until someone comes back, as long as he doesn't hurt us the experience will be invaluable in the long run.
Stoner Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Anybody else in WNY w/ DirecTV not getting the Shootout? 1st chance I had this season to catch the postgame show, and the tech at DirecTV is claiming they aren't even getting it in their office. Bummer. Same here in Pennsyltucky. Did it have anything to do with the fact that the Rangers postgame show was being aired at the same time?
Claude Balls Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 I had you beat by 10 hours. Ahh, you bastard! Hey, great beer chugging Sabre fans minds think alike.
Claude Balls Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 positively flaming. Hey there sailor....you talkin to me? :chris:
... Posted October 18, 2008 Report Posted October 18, 2008 Absolutely. Knowing he's a short timer until someone comes back, as long as he doesn't hurt us the experience will be invaluable in the long run. I thought he was slow. There were a couple of times he had the puck, once especially in the third, where nearly any other Sabre forward would have scooted off with it, but Ellis just looked s-l-o-w and had to get rid of it. He made no other impression on me.
