Some specifics I'd like to see: Maxim Afinogenov's line must generate chances. Not him individually, but the line he's out there with. They have to make it difficult on the Canucks. Max has been working hard, so it's a matter of time before he explodes. I'd like to possibly see Roy get a goal also. He's been playing too well not to get on the score sheet. Defensively, I'd like lydman to settle down more, and Sekera become more steady on the PP. Other than that, they just need to continue on with the 4th period from the Rangers game. Don't change a thing!

I never thought I would say this, but I actually enjoyed watching the 2nd and 3rd periods of the Ranger game. Maybe it's different when you are on the winning side, but it shows how dominant this team can be when playing defense. It is a nice change of pace, and isn't that what they say, offense wins games, defense wins championships? I know it has only been 3 games, but I like what I see. They also seem to play much better in their own end, less chaotic. Keep on keepin' on, boys!! 4-1 Buffalo (keeping with the one goal against average).

This is probably over-thinking it, but might not be a bad idea to go with Lalime tonight ... Western Conference team he might know better, he was 1-1 vs. Vancouver last season but allowed only 2 goals ... .947 sv pct .... Sanford is definitely due a start for Vancouver, he's played just one period so far.

I think the Sabres win tonight if they don't get into the "let's put on a show at home" mode they often fell into last season. With the Canucks coming in from Detroit, it's the Sabres game to win if they take care of business.

Days that the Sabres have a game are just so much better than days they don't. I get too much done on those other days.

Sabs 5-2

I agree w/ you 110%. I think Ruff will make sure the Sabres keep playing the style of hockey they have been and not allow them to put play pretty hockey. Ugly hockey wins. Buffalo needs to take advantage of Vancouver's road trip. I know it's been said for every game this season, but tonight is a must win. They play at Atlanta tomorrow and that will be a tough game, due to playing a game the night before and the travel that is involved.

Go Sabres!!!

Vancouver just played a tough physical road game in Detroit last night and won. With the Sabres getting the benefit of a day off between no reason we shouldn't have more jump than the canuckleheads.

If we use that and get ahead on them early I do not think it matters which goalie(Miller or Lalime) plays since both have looked very sharp. Vancover does know how to play the close grind it out style game and thats what I am expecting to see. Crystal ball says 3-2 sabres.

Regardless of which goalie plays tonight I would like to see Ruff continue to alternate with tomorrow's game unless one of them stands out head and shoulders above the other (aka great 0-0 tie and said player stones all their shooters and wins in SO. ) Go Bflo

This is another good test for the Sabres. How will they react to a big road win? Will they come out hungry again and play hard against a pretty good Western Conference team that is 3-1? Or will they let down at home, figuring in the back of their minds that they are a good team, they are at home, they aren't competing with Vancouver in the conference, the Canucks are tired from travel and playing last night, etc.? We saw the latter far too much last year.

I see the team's leaders keeping everyone focused on the need to keep putting points in the playoff bank. I think Miller starts tonight and the Sabres give up 2 and score 4 (if Luongo plays -- he hasn't had that good of a start) or more if Vancouver's backup plays. I think Lalime starts tomorrow vs. Atlanta.

My thoughts exactly, Pipes.

Another reason I like starting Lalime tonight is that they have to travel and play in that morgue they call an arena in Atlanta tomorrow ... that's a recipe for coming out flat and sleepwalking through much of the game. That's the kind of game you need your goalie to maybe keep you in it or even win it for you. Lalime could maybe do it, he's been playing well, but I'd LIKE to see Miller do it. Many people in the organization, including many players, repeatedly call him the team's best player. That's a game your best player wins for you when everyone else is maybe not at their best.

(again, totally OVERthinking it, the whole rest of the team should not SUCK tomorrow just because they played tonight, not like they have been grinding for months ... )

Excellent point. I think the additions of Rivet and Teppo are making a huge difference and you are seeing more of a Lindy Ruff style team.

People, the Canucks will not play Sanford tonight. Luongo will play 75 games this year, so the coach has already stated. Luongo needs to get his game going as he struggles in the early part of the season. You can hope he won't play, but he will.

Vancouver and Buffalo, who were expansion cousins in 1970, have clashed 106 times in their history with the Canucks holding a slim 44-42-20 edge.

Hoping for the 4-3 Sabres OT victory. Best of both worlds for me. But I most definitely want the 2 pts for Buffalo.

It is still early, so you are right, no reason to rest him yet ... still, given the travel and big win last night, the Sabres should not need to light up the goalie to win this game. They need to jump on the rest of the team and not let them get their legs.

By the way, horrible zig-zag trip for them .. North to Calgary-east to Washington-west to Detroit-east toBuffalo .... still west to Chicago and then back east Columbus to come ... ugh.

At what point do we let Miller try to get into a groove? This on and off again can't help that. I understand we brought in Lalime to give Miller a break, but come on, it is the beginning of the season. Let's try to get him dialed in. He hardly had any work in the Ranger game.

Miller seems quite dialed in to me.

2 games, 2 goals against?

He even said he can't play 75 games again. He needs to rest accordingly. Lalime should be playing every 4th or 5th game overall.

The Canucks do have a stinky trip. The Sabres need to get thru the first period. The Canucks will be very good in the opening period, then they'll fade.

Vancouver is a very inconsistant team. As the one guy said though, you can bet anything that Luongo will be in goal tonight. Any word on Connolly? I'm guessing he's out again?

I think we'll need to play some of the same style as we did at MSG, defense, defense and some more defense. 2-3 goals could win it. I'll go and say 2-1 Buffalo. Late goal in the 3rd by Derek Roy. Max scores the other.

Do the new 3rd jerseys make an appearance tonight? If I remember correctly it was every Friday night home game.

I haven't found a schedule, but since we played Montreal last Friday at home in the slug, it can't be every Friday night home game.

I think we'll see our old "Buddy" Taylor "Mascara" Pyatt on the line with the Sedin twins tonight. I was over on HFBoards / Vancouver threads and he has become their favorite whipping boy as of late. Nuck's fans are really bashing him hard.

Hopefully, they will be tired from their game last night vs the Wings. They got a "W" though. I think they are without Kevin Beiska (sp?) on Defense last I heard.

LETS GO BUFFALO!!
