McJeff215 Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 I know this comes up a lot, but is anyone watching this game? Those seats are just about empty! That's to the point of embarrassing, honestly.

I think there were more people there as well. I had to switch to Pens/Caps once it started.

I get the Fox Sports South coverage, so it's even better!

Caught them in between periods advertising a family pack to Saturdays hockey game against the Sabres; 4 premium tickets with 4 chick filet combo meals for $89. I couldn;t help thinking that is a pretty good family pack for a NHL hockey game. I also noticed the Tampa bay / Islanders game in Tampa had a ton of empty seats as well.. Hope they can afford Barry's contract..

Two or less Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 About Atlanta, i just read an article about the economy of sports and hockey, and they talked about the Thrashers in this article. They said Atlanta had the lowest number of season ticket sales LAST YEAR in the NHL.... and 60% did NOT renew their seasons. lol It's going to be a long season for the Thrashers.
Kevbeau Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 Announced was about 11,300. I'm at most the games and and with the exception of the opener, it's par for the course so far. Tuesday's game was even worse (Wild). Part of the problem is that the people who have club seats usually sit up in the dining area eating their overpriced Buckhead Life restaraunt food and sip martinis...so pretty much one side of the lower bowl is always empty. Having said that there were plenty of people in other sections dressed as seats. Atlanta prices their tickets like there is demand for them. IMO, they'd be better of cutting prices, making it up on concessions and build a proper fanbase. Oh...also the STH hate the ownership group.
rbochan Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 It's almost Halloween! The fans were dressed as empty seats!

Didn't think of that still though watching some of the other games last night Detroit supposed Hockey town had a ton of empty lower seats and the wild vs florida wasn't packed either compared to like the Avalanche and Pens games which were packed. I know it's early in the season but I think that just confirms Hockey in general and specifically in some of these places just isn't as popular as it is in specific regions and city's.

I think you're going to start seeing more and more empty seats this year, and not just in the Atlanta arena. I think the economy is going to force a lot of people to scale back spending and entertainment, and sports is going to be too expensive to keep.
