inkman Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Mentioned how preseason didn't mean much. Likes the physical nature of the team. It's trickled down from Rivet and others. Liked the exchange yesterday when everyone on the ice fought. Stated that he's told his team that when situations happen on the ice, everyone needs to be involved. Paille came in great shape. Is skating great and loves his game right now. On Tallinder non-boarding call. Lindy thought Comrie dove and the official saw it that way to. Wants defenseman to initiate contact and push opposing forwards into the wall to neutralize them. Talked about hitting defenseless players and thought that Tallinder's hit wasn't that. Hecht flying back to B-Lo to see team docs. Lindy said they went to the Rangers game last night. Good team speed, 4 lines all playing well. Thinks the Rangers are improved from last year and that the entire team has bought into a defensive style of play.

Lundqvist is playing great. Going to need a gutsy effort to beat them.

Enjoying my new direct TV CI package I finally got this year and I watched the Rags and Devils last night and I have to say they looked like a much improved team. They choked off everything the devils were trying to do and their defensemen were solid except for a couple of lapses on a certain a pairing that included Kalinin however he is down in the 3rd pairing and it looks like for good reason. Their forwards are flying back on the backcheck and there is very little open ice or opportunties. Unless the Rags suddenly take a night off and throw out a clunker IMHO this will need to be like the Montreal opener, one of those tight low scoring OT or SO wins for Bflo to squeeze this one out.
MajorMinotaur Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 comrie is a professional player. He knows better than to position himself like that next to the boards. He is either stupid, or was trying to draw a penalty. That being said, I'm surprised tallinder didn't get a penalty anyways.
Buffalo Wings Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 comrie is a professional player. He knows better than to position himself like that next to the boards. He is either stupid, or was trying to draw a penalty. That being said, I'm surprised tallinder didn't get a penalty anyways. I think you're giving Comrie too much credit. As talented as he is, I think he's the type of player to try and position himself like that just to draw a 5-minute boarding penalty.
Hawerchuk Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Thanks Ink on those points. So far, the Rangers look like the team to beat in the East. "Wants defenseman to initiate contact and push opposing forwards into the wall to neutralize them." Defintely agree on this. "Paille came in great shape. Is skating great and loves his game right now." I love his game right now too!!
Two or less Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Awesome. Thanks for the recap for those who didn't have a chance to hear it live. I really think it's cool the players went to MSG to watch the NYR live.

If he keeps taking the body, he'll be involved in many scoring opportunities.
That Aud Smell Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Consistency is key now as he seemingly disappeared for many games last year. If he keeps taking the body, he'll be involved in many scoring opportunities. from what i'd heard, and now seen, he's bigger this year - the added size and strength should help him stay at the level he's at right now.
Realist Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 Sabres will definitely have to bring their A game to have any chance against the Rags tomorrow night. They look real good after the first few games of the season. Then again, Buffalo looks real good after their first two!

They look real good after the first few games of the season. Then again, Buffalo looks real good after their first two! I'm thinking the Rags better bring their A game to have any chance against the Sabres tomorrow night. We just shut down one of the league's best offenses in the Canadiens and beat up an Islanders team that we're supposed to beat. Seriously though, I'm trying to temper my enthisiasm as we're only 2 games in, but I like what I see so far.
Two or less Posted October 14, 2008 Report Posted October 14, 2008 One thing we can all agree on is that Sabres are much more improved in their working ethic this year and it shows the last 2 games. We're a very hard working team. However, that said, i've heard several interviews the last two days where "experts" call the NYR the hardest working team in the league (so far). So i'll be very interesting to see if both teams bring their top game. It should be a very good game, despite the fact we're missing Hecht, Connolly and Gaustad. Players to keep an eye out on NYR- Voros, Dubinsky and Dawes. They can skate. Hit. And score.
