wjag Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 WTF, got to convert on a 5 on 3.... It was a 5 on 4 for four minutes.. Not getting a goal there hurt..
BCSabresFan Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 It was a 5 on 4 for four minutes.. Not getting a goal there hurt.. My bad, just started watching and wasn't paying close attention. Still...
nobody Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 I'm sure there is some rule I should know but I would have been happier with a 5 on 3. If 2 separate players were called for penalties it would be 5 on 3; it's not like both of the penalties occurred at the the same time.
Strow Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 just about the time that the next goal wins...
wjag Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 It's a crime that Montreal gets at least one point out of this game. Buffalo played one of their better games against them in recent memory.
SabresFan526 Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Well, we start the season with a point. Let's get that second point. Good game overall, but let's finish it off.
Strow Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Max with a classic turnover going across the blue line.
Strow Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Miller played HUGE so far now he has to win this one
wjag Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 That was a huge set of saves by Miller in the last two minutes... UGH... the shoot out is next..
SabresFan526 Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Miller needs to come up big tonight in the shootout. Was not good to him last year, so I want to see him back to his 2005-2007 form in the shootout. He's had it before, let's get it tonight.
BCSabresFan Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Stafford:  Ha, same move! C'mon Miller!
SabresFan526 Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 I wanted to wait to say this all game long because I didn't want to jinx it, but Miller was phenomenal tonight. This team played a defensive gritty game. Miller was absolutely awesome. Miller was sharp and was fantastic in the overtime and shootout. We've got 2 points to start the season. Excellent game. Even if they aren't 5-3 wins, I'll take it. They got a big win in the division against the best team in the Eastern Conference last year and who many are predicting as the top team this year. Huge win to start the season. I'm jacked!
Strow Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 To hold the Habs to one goal is a great sign for the new year. You see more team D already which is a nice adjustment from last year. I still hate the 'shell' D they drop into but thats the system I guess and it works well.
will Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 thanks for the updates, folks. i just moved into a new apartment and i'm not sure if i'll be able to get CI here or afford it for that matter (went back to school at age 34!). so i'll be following along with each game right here. i see vanek had a game high 8 shots...holy smokes.

Scotty Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Well It's Over, ...What great play. I think Lindy and the crew looked at how alot of teams played defense last year (Boston, NJ) and I think the play tonight was not as pretty as two years ago but I'll take it. My player of the game, Paille. Although no points he hit anything with a CH on it's chest. He also seemed to be always near the puck. As I wrote this I also have to give it to Miller. Great game for "Mr. Softie" :death: I hate that name! P.S. This to Tommie G, Love that classic logo at center ice. Let's Go Sabres!
Corp000085 Posted October 11, 2008 Author Report Posted October 11, 2008 Awesome way to start the season. If I had to say one thing about this game, it had a flow to it. The defense and offense worked together and it was smooth. Tonight's victory is a far cry from some of the games we had to sit through last year. Paille was a monster. Kaleta seems to have improved, and believe it or not, peters made some decent hockey plays. Enough to roll 4 lines. Vanek is on an 82 goal pace at the moment, which is good... although he could have put in another couple to go with his one. Kotalik and stafford were great on the shootout... obviously a coaching decision to go backhand after the fake shot. it worked. Finally, Ryan Miller. That one goal was not a softie. it was a defensive fart that left a guy wide open in the slot. The last 5 minutes of the game and the OT was the Miller of old. Awesome awesome awesome!
FormerFreddie Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Stafford was a WITCH with the stick in the shootout. I must've replayed the goal 15 times to see the speed that he brought it from the forehand to the backhand and elevate the shot. Price never had a chance.
shack & duff Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Very happy for the two points but this Timmy C. thing, so early in the season, is really disconcerting.
