The sabres have definitely toughened up defensively with the addition of Rivet. He brings a quality defenseman and a vet that can contribute on the ice. We rag on Teppo, but he has been the steadiest d-man since the lockout and he'll be back for the season. I'm a little leary about dealing without Gaustad and with a banged up mair and connolly. Again, the sabres are thin at center, but hopefully things will be all right the first couple of weeks. Does Pominville live up to his contract, like Roy did last year? Say what you want about streaky vanek, but the dude can get 50+ goals this year if he can stay hot longer than cold. Will connolly stay healthy enough to contribute? Will the power play improve? Will Miller regain his dominance in the crease? Will lalime actually play more than 3 games this year? Lots of questions, lots of hypothetical answers... Tomorrow night, they get answered for real! I'm super excited about the season starting. As far as the game threads go, let me lay out some reminders for those who have forgotten and for the new people that have joined us for the season. I usually start the GDTs and pin them usually no longer than 24 hours before a game and we leave them pinned no longer than 24 hours after the game. Please keep this thread and all threads PG-13. Do not start extra threads like "ugh" or "peters sucks"... We have a good moderating team here and we like to merge and delete "clutter" threads. If you start a thread like that and it gets deleted, please do not take offense. I have started stupid threads before that have been deleted. It's ok! We just like to keep the board running smoothly and to keep it as readable to visitors and lurkers as possible. If I run into trouble getting the threads started, by all means, anyone can start them and someone will pin it by gametime. There is a great chatroom here, which I encourage everyone to use. And i will say this, i think we win and make a statement. Sabres are back and we will be in the playoffs in 2009 and tomorrow night we'll send a message. I'm thinking 5-2 Buffalo. Vanek 2 goals, Stafford, Max and Spacek! A little vintage look at Sabres/Habs, here's a video i found. Wouldn't it be something if tomorrow's game started like this?

One for all and all for one! :D I am going to have to fire up the laptop during some games and see who is in the chat room. Despite what I anticipate to be 2000 annoying Habs fans in attendance, Sabres prevail 4-2 getting an empty net goal at the end.

RJ calling him Riv-et instead of Riv-a :lol: PS As I watched the video, was it wrong to be cheering for Rivet in that fight even if he wasn't a Sabre at the time? :D Did you notice Ray going right at Brashear? How refreshing compared to Peters style(if that's what you want to call it).

Mostly because the posters here keep the thread posts on point, and don't start unnecessary auxiliary threads. If some player's performance is disappointing or exciting during a game, it belongs in the GDT. If it's some player who is that freaking great (or--hopefully not) that freaking poor over several games, well, let's start a topic. But I'd hope that we don't become like two Bills Drive where there are five separate threads about the punt returner every Sunday evening. I'm not a mod, but I know the board I like and why I like it.

Ok, here's my thing the Sabres HAVE to do to win this game. Stay out of the penalty box! Monty's PP is dangerous and they now have Tanguay. He only made they pp, I assume anyway, better. What do you guys think is the most important thing the Sabres need to do to win? Go Sabres!

So it's not just Buffalo that they invade. Now, more importantly: it's go time. 6 solid months with no games! Never again! There's nothing like a GDT on a beautiful morning. Sabres, 4-3. Kotalik, Vanek, Pommer and, why not, the new captain with the goals.

I hope they really focused on cleaning up their game at this week's practice and are really in regular season mode now. They need to play with energy, focus, and discipline, not the sloppy and drag ass effort they put in to preseason. I'm pretty excited about getiing Nummy back and Rivet as captain. But, I think they need a win to get out of the gates. And, no stupid penalties (looking at Vanek, Kotalik, and a couple of other). I'm so excited I'm leaving work after lunch (west coast time) to get home and so I can watch the game.

The previous game in Montreal was real chippy and one of the Sabres got crushed by someone from Montreal, that's all I remember, not the specific players or incident though... As for the season, bring it on..... where already behind in the division, Ottawa, Boston and Toronto w/wins, we need one now too let it begin with Montreal.....Come on Bflo lets get'r done :chris:

At least they should not get caught napping like last year against the Isles. Very excited for my boy's first meaningful Sabres game ... although they are unbeaten in his lifetime as he was born the day of the season finale vs. Boston ... He had the Bills undefeated also, but he was sick Sunday and not at his full powers ... he's better now ... Let's Go Buffalo!!
