doors Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 The only PROBLEM withe the start of the regular season, NO HD TV coverage on direcTV for channel 638 on Friday night game ! I thought all home games were in HD and away games in SD, like last year. Looks like the TV viewing quality just took a huge step back ... :wallbash:
Claude_Verret Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 This sucks. I just checked the Center Ice channels and it has the Sabres game on channel 777, but 777-1 is "To Be Announced". Other games are listed for both SD and HD. :censored:

I thought all home games were in HD and away games in SD, like last year. If it still not there at 6pm tomorrow I'll be worried but as for now.... not so much
cdexchange Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 Wait...I thought every home game was HD...why wouldn't the opener be in HD?
Buffalo Wings Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 I just got HD back in March and while I love it to death, I'm still happy if the game is on at all.
All Along The Watchtower Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 DirecTV's schedule shows the game in HD on Ch 777-1 Link
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 DirecTV's schedule shows the game in HD on Ch 777-1 Link Only thing is the Guide info does imply HD however no HD icon in the guide like the others. Guess we will know at game time
sven233 Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 Only thing is the Guide info does imply HD however no HD icon in the guide like the others. Guess we will know at game time DirecTV is now showing the Sabres game on their guide on channel 638-1 which is NYaHD..... So, it looks like the game will be in HD! Hope they play well enough to get a win tonight GO SABRES!!!!!!!!
BamBam Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 DirecTV is now showing the Sabres game on their guide on channel 638-1 which is NYaHD..... So, it looks like the game will be in HD! Hope they play well enough to get a win tonight GO SABRES!!!!!!!! I just noticed that myself so hopefully the game will be in HD on 638-1.
theesir Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 I just noticed that myself so hopefully the game will be in HD on 638-1. All the -1 channels on DTV are HD broadcasts. A DirecTv tech who posts in another forum I frequent confirmed that the game would be in HD yesterday and said that the 638-1 channel would show up in the guide this afternoon.
LabattBlue Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 The beauty of not having an HD TV...I don't have to worry about this nonsense! :nana:
UncleWally Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 I just got HD back in March and while I love it to death, I'm still happy if the game is on at all. the early adopter
bills_fan_in_raleigh Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 The beauty of not having an HD TV...I don't have to worry about this nonsense! :nana: once ya had it HD its hard to go back
Zona Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 I hope they get their "Technical Difficulties" figured out soon. Its hard to watch the SD feed.
theesir Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 I hope they get their "Technical Difficulties" figured out soon. Its hard to watch the SD feed. It seems that they have and I have to say the picture looks FANTASTIC. I'm sitting 10 feet away from my 50" Plasma and It looks like I am literally sitting first row, 200 level, center ice. Just great!
dba4life Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 Well with Time Warner Cable there is no HD coverage at all on CI. If DTV ends up showing a lot of Sabres HD games this year on CI then I will need to make the switch. The SD feed looks as bad as last year. At least we got MSG. I hope they get their "Technical Difficulties" figured out soon. Its hard to watch the SD feed.
nfreeman Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 The beauty of not having an HD TV...I don't have to worry about this nonsense! :nana: once ya had it HD its hard to go back  correct. I had great HD for the 2nd & 3rd periods (directv), but pretty bad sound and picture issues in the 1st.

Not to nitpick, but for the benefit of others that is not necessarily true. Sometimes they put an upconverted 4:3 feed on the -1 channel, even if in the guide it is labeled as HD. For example, happened just the other night for the Ducks broadcast. The picture definitely looks crisper than the SD broadcast, but is not HD either. But thankfully, this is more the exception than the norm.
Samson's Flow Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 my Time-Warner HD broadcast had some issues tonight as well. Every once in a while it would freeze out or frame skip a little. What was worse is they didn't give any time remaining on the penalties. What gives!?!? Didn't they develop that technology in like the 80's???
scottnc Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 correct. I had great HD for the 2nd & 3rd periods (directv), but pretty bad sound and picture issues in the 1st. They had problems all last year with the MSG HD feed with intermittent sound/picture problems. I hope that doesn't persist this year.
All Along The Watchtower Posted October 11, 2008 Report Posted October 11, 2008 What was worse is they didn't give any time remaining on the penalties. What gives!?!? Didn't they develop that technology in like the 80's??? I found that very annoying as well...at commercials, I was switching to the Caps game and the difference in production quality was amazing...MSG still treats WNY as their bastard step-child.
