navybillsfan Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 Gaborik would be HUGE for this team lined up with Con.. Pittsburgh as we speak is making a play for him. I wish we had better management. Some stats on the ole boy.. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?playerId=290
Buffalo Wings Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 We're better off with another center than another winger.
carpandean Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 We're better off with another center than another winger. Agreed. Right now, we are on the hook for $41 million in cap hit next year for 7 forwards, 5 defensemen and two goalies. That leaves 6 forwards, including a top-two center, and 2 defensemen, both in the top six unless Paetsch gets promoted. With Gaborik, we'd likely be pushing $50 million still needing to sign 5 forwards and two defensemen, including that top-two center. Now, if they all come from Portland, which is really unlikely, we might be able to get in a $55 million. However, if we actually have to put a few million into a couple of players, then we are in serious cap problems, especially if it plateaus, which is quite possible. Not to mention any self-impose budget constraint. We could trade away Lydman or Tallinder to clear up some room ($2.562 million and $2.875 million, respectively), but that's two more top-six defensemen that we need to fill and I'm not sure how many entry-level defenders we can find for this roster or how well such a defense would be able to play. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have him, but if we're going to spend for a big money player, we'd be better off going for a center.
inkman Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 I hear something but it's faint and I've heard it somewhere before...

navybillsfan Posted October 8, 2008 Author Report Posted October 8, 2008 If you were smart, you wouldn't believe eklund. ESPN new reported it during hockey roundup. I dont read Eklund, I find better news on public bathroom walls

I wish we had better management. Some stats on the ole boy.. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/players/profile?playerId=290 It's much easier said then done. I honestly don't think we have what it takes to bring him in.
inkman Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 It's much easier said then done. I honestly don't think we have what it takes to bring him in. Sure we do, his name is Vanek, man.
Two or less Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 Sure we do, his name is Vanek, man. Oh, yeah, Vanek for Gaborik would get it done i'm sure. Although, since Gaborik has a long history of injuries, i'm not too sure too many people would accept that trade.
Two or less Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 BTW, according to a radio station in Montreal, the Habs have been in talks with the Wild and supposedly, the main package for Gaborik would be Ryan McDonagh (top defensive prospect, local Minnesota kid) and Chris Higgins (young, 50pt scorer, potential to be 70pt-ish player). Think Buffalo can counter that? I don't think so.

Goodfella25 Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 Don't you all remember that Darcy is done working now until the 2009 draft? Jeez, some people.
Samson's Flow Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 Gaborik would be HUGE for this team lined up with Con.. Pittsburgh as we speak is making a play for him. I wish we had better management. Some stats on the ole boy.. Given both players injury histories, I'd give them one game over the 82 game season when they line up together healthy. Although Gaborik is one of my favorite players, his 5 goal game last year was amazing.
Bmwolf21 Posted October 9, 2008 Report Posted October 9, 2008 FWIW, Gaborik hasn't been that bad with the injuries. He had one year where he failed to play 50 games, but in every other year he's played at least 65 games and most years (4 of 7, including last year) he's played 71+. I don't know if he's worth what it would take to land him, but the thought of him flying down the wing in a Sabres uniform gives me chills.

Heres a video of Darcy working the fax on draft day... Great stuff! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oMfyDHBaLjw...feature=related

LabattBlue Posted October 10, 2008 Report Posted October 10, 2008 Gaborik reportedly turned down 10 years 80 mil. If I'm Minnesota, I make it known to all teams he will be traded by Christmas and take the best offer on the table. http://www.twincities.com/sports/ci_10673158?source=rss PS Forget the Sabres. The price will be high in terms of a trade and in addition, they would never pay him that much after the money they have committed to Roy, Pominville & Vanek.
