FogBat Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 SabreInFla, I would have given you more credit if this came from The Hockey News or even CNNSI. MSNBC? You're getting your source from a tanking network? Try again.

You're getting your source from a tanking network?Try again. It's actually from NBCSports.com - you know, the only U.S. network who actually shows NHL coverage - and posted on the MSNBC site. That being said, this is the byline: Bob Duff writes regularly for NBCSports.com and covers the NHL for the Windsor (Ontario) Star. I would be lying if I said I had ever heard of Bob Duff or the Windsor Star, so I take his prediction with a huge grain of salt.

Bmwolf21 Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 Who wouldn't? True. Lately I'm finding it harder and harder to get all fired up about supposed "slaps in the face" by the national media when they post that the Sabres/Bills are going to do poorly in their pre-season predictions and/or are lower than I think they should be in their obscure "power rankings."
carpandean Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 Top defensive pairing: Henrik Tallinder, Toni Lydman You're right, I hope this is wrong, too. Unless, of course, that means that they have returned to their previous form.
frisky Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 Let's add this to the "Hope this is wrong category...". from Jason Kay of THN who is listening to John Vogl... http://www.thehockeynews.com/articles/1833...or-Buffalo.html Also check out those people commenting about moving them to Southern Ontario. Anyone agree, disagree? Is it all Bills 'til January? I don't think it is but I'm not there anymore.

wjag Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 I'm one of those who feels the Sabres did not do enough to last year's team to feel different about this year's team. I really want to be wrong. I think both articles have some truth in them. I'll also throw in there the sine-wave effect of the Sabres and Bills. They just don't seem to be good in the same year. The Bills appear on their way up and Sabres have just completed a highly disappointing season and appear on their way down. I'll be rooting for the Sabres with as much enthusiasm as I always have/do. But in the back of my head, I really wonder if they have done enough with Rivet, Lalime, Teppo and Ellis to be more than a mendoza-line team. I see them with about the same points as last year +/- a couple. Is that good enough to be in? We'll see. I sure hope so... It has been a really long off season for Sabres hockey fans...
Stoner Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 We need a poll. Who's cuter, Sarah or BM's kid. I already know who's smarter.

Anyone agree, disagree? Is it all Bills 'til January? I don't think it is but I'm not there anymore. The guy should really do more research ... his whole thing is based on the fact that if the Bills are good people will buy those tickets instead of the Sabres ... had he checked, he might have noticed the last 3 seasons the Bills were supremely mediocre and still sold out most of their games. So it's really not possible for many more "entertainment dollars" to go there and not to the Sabres. The market may not be big enough for two teams long-term, but it will be because there are not enough corporate dollars for the Bills. The vast majority of the regular 73,000 Bills seats and 18,690 Sabres seats will sell just fine and I'd be REALLY surprised if the Sabres were the team in trouble. EDIT: Assuming the teams don't SUCK royally ... they gotta be somewhat competitive at least.
shrader Posted October 5, 2008 Report Posted October 5, 2008 Key additions: D Craig Rivet; G Patrick Lalime; LW Joakim Lindstrom; LW Mathieu Darche; LW Matt Ellis

So much for tolerance... And they say that America has "freedom of speech"... It was a matter of exhortation to get a better source than NBC/MSNBC. I'm sure you wouldn't have made such a request for me to refrain from posting had I not had that avatar. So be it.
That Aud Smell Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 I take his prediction with a huge grain of salt. i said the same thing when someone linked to mirtle calling for us to take the division: preseason predictions are (among) the most useless copy that a journalist writes all year long. that said, this nbc prediction's bottom line is closer to where i see the team than mirtle's. i.e., if the breaks don't mostly go our way, we're probably finishing 10th -- but with a good amount of luck (more than a little, not quite a lot), i think we're coming in 7th. and at the risk of looking ahead to the detriment of '08-09, i get the sense that '10-11 could be the year we're poised to do some real damage. (or not.) We need a poll. Who's cuter, Sarah or BM's kid. I already know who's smarter. :worthy: (and that's coming from a guy who hasn't figured out who he's voting for yet -- not that it matters in true-blue new york.)

Two or less Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008   haha i wish. He's a solid player.
Guest Sloth Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 IMO, I think the Sabres will have a better season this year. Roughly 75% into the season, they weren't that far away from being the number 5 or 6 team in the Eastern Conference. Late in the season they were ahead of the Flyers and w/in striking distance of a number of teams. Miller being overplayed, not his or Ruff's fault, played a huge role in their inability to stay in the race. This team, no more Drury/Briere hangover, has more team chemistry. I think the team is improved. I'd rather have Rivet instead of Campbell. Buffalo's defense has improved. Sekera is a HUGE step up over Kalinin and I'll be excited when Weber is in the top 6. The Sabres also have a legitimate backup goalie now. I wouldn't be surprised if Miller only played 60 games. Max may surprise people this year too...
inkman Posted October 8, 2008 Report Posted October 8, 2008 Just don't count out Sarah. She's a smart, tough cookie. Spoken like...well...Sarah Palin.
