tom webster Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I know I am going to take some heat for this but I still expect to see a trade this week and while it may just be moving a veteran off the roster to make way for one of the kids who have impressed, I think it may be a surprising package deal that may make DeLuca amongst others quite happy. Any thoughts????
carpandean Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I wouldn't be surprised. There will be roster changes this season, I'm pretty sure of that, but I don't know if it will happen this week.

Any thoughts???? They deal Timmy to the Flyers straight up for Briere? And then extend Peters with a "Lifetime" deal to keep him a Sabre? I would say I am almost 99.99999% sure that nothing is going to happen, and nothing will happen til maybe January if they look like they did last year and Darcy feels some heat to make some moves. The only moves you will see are guys being brought in from Portland, the FO likes the guys they have and don't usually stray from them, and stay in house to try and "shake up" the roster
spndnchz Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Can I play GM for a second? I would wait. Wait and see how my team starts the year with what I have. If a deal comes along for Max, like I said before, if it's good enough I'll take it. He's just the odd man out right now. As the season moves on and gets toward the deadline I'd be thinking 'is this the year we make the run or do we hold on to what we have for next year'. If the team is close and needs some minor fixes, I'm packaging, trading, waiving, etc with some of the young guys and bogged down players to get what I need to make it. You can't build forever without taking the run.

Any thoughts???? How committed are you to this prediction? What's your assessment of the likelihood, in percentage terms? If it's 50%, I can't get that excited. If you're at 80%, then I might have to spend some time daydreaming.
LabattBlue Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 They deal Timmy to the Flyers straight up for Briere? And then extend Peters with a "Lifetime" deal to keep him a Sabre? Bringing Briere back would make DeLuca happy?

The main reason for a trade IMO would be because they are high on MacArthur and/or Gerbe, don't want to lose MacArthur to waivers and they want to move a forward to clear the logjam.

LabattBlue Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 You getting vibes again from the nurse who gives the Earl of Bud's grandmother her dialysis treatments? Right on cue!

tom webster Posted October 3, 2008 Author Report Posted October 3, 2008 You getting vibes again from the nurse who gives the Earl of Bud's grandmother her dialysis treatments? LikeI said, you are nothing if not consistent. I wrote those first few words for you. By the way, I gave the peanut vendor your moniker and if you buy 10 bags of peanuts friday he'll tell you where to meet me between periods.
deluca67 Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Bringing Briere back would make DeLuca happy? My post total would double within a week

Any thoughts???? I hope you heard something legit and the Sabres plan to give Weber his permanent roster spot that he has earned. That would make me happy. I really like Weber's game and I will probably have his name and number tossed on my jersey. I don't think he will be a perennial all-star type blueliner. He will wear a 'C' on his jersey at some point in his career.

Which restroom is that again? I always end up in the wrong one! OK, we have now beaten each other up several times. Would you like to be friends? This olive branch will be offered one time only. You have fallen hard. You should know not to give your heart away so fast. When you need a good cry, I'll be here for ya. You betcha. (Sorry, I'm in Sarah Palin mode today. Man, is Tina Fey going to have fun with that debate performance.)

I had heard you prefer the woods at Ellicott Creek Park......Oh maybe that was PABillsFan. You just want to be friends so I send you some of those tickets I gave Carp? Don't worry, I'll have another contest and I'll try to gear it to a crotchety old historian like yourself. :death:
Two or less Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 I'm not so sure they will make any moves. I think the roster is pretty clear right now. From the younger players, it's fair to say Gerbe, Butler and Kennedy will both play in Portland. Lindy Ruff has a plan for younger players and i'd be shocked if he broke it, even if Gerbe has 2 goals for the Sabres. Between Mancari and Zagrapan, neither has played well to make a spot. They brought in Ellis to fill in if needed. And Clarke MacArthur has played pretty well for the most part. The team we see is the team we got.
Two or less Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Although, you just never know. I just saw this- From Spectors Trade Rumors COLUMBUS DISPATCH: Michael Arace reports of scouts from " Vancouver, New Jersey, the Rangers, Ottawa, Florida, Pittsburgh, Montreal, Tampa Bay and Detroit" attending last night's Blue Jackets-Sabres game. He speculates they might be there to take a look at defensemen Ole-Kristian Tollefsen and Marc Methot and also noted that forward Manny Malholtra played on the top line last night suggesting the Jackets might've been showcasing him. Link- http://www.spectorshockey.net/ I know the article mentions that most likey scouts were watching Tollefsen or Methot, but maybe some came to see a few of the Sabres players?

Man, is Tina Fey going to have fun with that debate performance.) The kid has a lot of qualities that the Sabres have been missing since Mario gave McKee brain damage and destroyed his career. The only way Palin could have redeemed herself last night would have been to take off her top to Van Halen' s 'Hot for Teacher'.
carpandean Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 Man, is Tina Fey going to have fun with that debate performance.) She better get the "new-cue-ler" part right. Man, that gritted on me last night. It's pronounced "NEW-CLEAR"! Look at the word; there aren't three syllables! Nu-clear! Nu-clear! Nu-clear!!!!!

carpandean Posted October 3, 2008 Report Posted October 3, 2008 actually there are, just in different spots. nu-cle-ar Touch?. I officially change my argument to "there's no 'U' between the 'C' and the 'L'". In a quick search on the web, it seems that I am not the only one that noticed this.
