matter2003 Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 We sure look like we are gonna suck worse than last year right now....
carpandean Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Nah, we haven't fielded anything close to a normal team yet. The first two games were heavily laden with prospect and Pirates. The last two have been about 50/50 (of the 12 forwards playing tonight, only 6 will likely have a starting spot.) Plus, Lindy has been trying a lot of the guys competing for call-up rankings in spots that would normally be filled by regular guys. All three goals in the last two games came on the PK, which normally would be taken by Roy, Pommer and Hecht with guys like Paille and Gaustad taking some of the slack. Of those guys, only Gaustad was on the ice for the two against Toronto and, while tonight's featured Pommer and Hecht, the goal was scored by Spacek clearing past Lalime (bad luck.) I imagine we'll start seeing more and more starters in the lineup in the last three games with probably the final starting squad in Detroit. I'll start worrying if I don't see more then. Besides, there have been some things to really like about the few changes that we made and even the way some veterans are playing. Rivet will be a great addition. He's physical, but also still offensively capable. That was a really nice faked-point-shot pass to Max on the tying goal last night. Having Teppo back will also help a lot. Even Rivet said that he never knew just how good Teppo really was until he played with him. Lalime has definitely looked like an upgrade to T-bo and should be able to take some slack off of Miller. While Max still has the occasional give-away, he looks like he's stepping up his forechecking and even backchecking, while still producing offensively. Finally, Roy looks like he is completely ready to pick up where he left off last year.
thesportsbuff Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 If you "know its only preseason" why make the thread? pre season is more meaningless than finding out that lindsay lohan digs other chicks.
frisky Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Or Clay Aiken is in fact gay. There's guys who are playing for spots and seeing how some of themore mature prospects will figure in to the equation. I think we'll be okay this year.
nucci Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 We sure look like we are gonna suck worse than last year right now.... Why do you think that?
inkman Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Why do you think that? Because a bunch of scrubs teamed up with some current Sabres haven't looked good playing against other teams scrubs teamed up with their NHL partners.
LabattBlue Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 We sure look like we are gonna suck worse than last year right now.... You're joking, right?
Guest Sloth Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 We sure look like we are gonna suck worse than last year right now.... Umm...a lot of the best teams in the NFL will have only 2 wins in the preseason. You don't play your key players and key lines, during the preseaon. Same rule of thumb applies to the NHL. 11 days until opening night! I'm beyond pumped and I'm already prepared; meaning I already have the beer fridge fully loaded!
nucci Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 Because a bunch of scrubs teamed up with some current Sabres haven't looked good playing against other teams scrubs teamed up with their NHL partners. Ah! I get it. Now it makes more sense.
Two or less Posted September 29, 2008 Report Posted September 29, 2008 I am not sure to why people ALWAYS need to think negative? Why not think positive? Let's see. Our defense has improved alot. Weber and Sekera look great and even though Weber looks good, he's still probably won't be good enough to make the top 6. That's saying something. Lydman and Tallinder had their problems but everyone does. Rivet looks rock solid. Overall, the defense looks great. Besides the game vs. Toronto where we used all backups against majority of their A-team players. Montreal scored 2 shorthanded goals on a tiny rink. Our point men misplayed the puck. That won't happen often. Sabres tried to work on their PP with limited space, it haunt us and Montreal scored twice. Oh, and their first goal, was a total fluke from behind the net. Toronto and Minnesota at home had tons of problems scoring on us as well. It's not only Miller who's been solid, but Lalime too. It's really early in pre-season, but, so far, Sekera looks like our best d-men. The guy played almost 30minutes vs. Toronto. He's a work horse, brings the puck up the ice and has a great shot. And Teppo looks like he didn't miss anything last year. He looked great on Saturday night. The offense has struggled though, no doubt. But the offense is one aspect of this team that i am worried about. Unlike in the past, this team can beat teams in low scoring games and this team will still be able to win a crazy 6-5 all offense game.

So pretty much do whatever it takes to win, regardless the score? That description kind of reminds of a team the Sabres once had.
