darksabre Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 eh...preseason is about evaluating talent and we did that. Let the people of roboville have their day. They knew we would have scored with 7 seconds and won in overtime. lol that remote chance was enough. you could tell the crowd was pulling for the habs, so let em have it.
carpandean Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 lol that remote chance was enough. you could tell the crowd was pulling for the habs, so let em have it. I'm trying hard to remember that fact, but whether ahead or behind, those last seconds of a close game are the best part of hockey.
wonderbread Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 That was pretty rediculous. WTF? any why didn't LR call the TO?
FogBat Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I'm NOT saying that you'll be wrong. But keep in mind that these college guys usually need a year in the AHL just to get used to the 80+ game schedule, as compared to college. Very few are able to go from juniors/college to the bigs.
SwampD Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I'm trying hard to remember that fact, but whether ahead or behind, those last seconds of a close game are the best part of hockey. You're right but I'm just so happy to be watching hockey I don't really care. Plus, I would rather not see one of our guys getting hurt trying to pull out a preseason win.
X. Benedict Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 That was pretty rediculous. WTF? any why didn't LR call the TO? Roy was calling time-out....but all French linemen and refs
wonderbread Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Roy was calling time-out....but all French linemen and refs  they were all to busy not fighting in any wars and eating frogs i guess

darksabre Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Right. Let's not make this into Game 6 of the '99 Finals. First rule of No Goal is don't talk about No Goal.
inkman Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 First rule of No Goal is don't talk about No Goal. Second rule of No Goal is don't talk about No Goal!
carpandean Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Roy was calling time-out....but all French linemen and refs  Isn't Roy (it's really pronounced Wah) french-Canadian? Could he parle-vous the time-out-eh?
Hawerchuk Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Couple things about the game. Lalime played pretty well. Gave up a weak one 5 hole, but hey, its his first game. He was solid all around. Roy is a fucing animal. Great goal and alot of hustle on PK and backcheck. Love him. Gerbe had a freakin laser shot glove side high right in the top corner. Man, what a shot!! He's tough in the corners too. Very good game. I thought Pasetch was pretty good. Looods and Hank were kinda going thru the motions. Not much from them. This loss doesn't matter, Buffalo came back with a couple nice goals. It was kinda of a stalemate game. Just getting the guys into conditioning mode. There are alot of guys really working hard for a forward spot and it makes no sense to keep Andrew Peters on this team. I will pull my hair out if he's taking a roster spot over someone else come game 1. Max Afino had kind of a good night. He made some plays but there were times he really needed to shoot the damn puck. He's driving me mad and its only game 2 preseason. I really hope he and Stafford step it up this season.... BIG TIME! Overall, it was great seeing the boys in action tonight on NHL Network. Arena was a freaking barn with a small ice surface, like it was played at Leisure Rinks or some crap. But still great to see some hockey!! LETS GO BUFFALO!
carpandean Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Roy is a fucing animal. Great goal and alot of hustle on PK and backcheck. Love him. Too true. If anyone thinks that he's letting up after last season, look how he plays in a freakin' preseason game. Has been and will continue to be my favorite Sabre (just ahead of Pommer.)

Two or less Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 A few things on this game. I watched it all, and talked to a friend at length, mostly about the team, and have several observations. Positives- -The event. At first, leading up to the game, i was kinda bitter that we had to play a game which looked like a local barn that nobody visits and to look so bootleg. The last few days, on Sabres.com and reading up on the game in media from Canada, i realized how big of a deal this whole "hockeyville" thing is in Canada. The atmosphere was awesome, and the whole event was pretty cool. Sabres did alot of PR work there and showed a good show tonight. I'm really happy Sabres were invited to play in this event. -Nate Gerbe and Tim Kennedy. These two, along with Butler were on my what to look for list for this game. Both were great. Gerbe, i thought as did the announcers, was the best Sabre tonight. He was flying on the ice. The shot was a rocket. I think we can all agree that he will be a Sabre at some point this season. Kennedy, i thought played real well too. He attacked the net and fought in the corners for the puck. And i couldn't even count how many take aways he had in our zone on their power plays. Almost each time we stopped them on a rush on their PP, almost each time it was #58 getting the puck and clearing it. He looked like he belonged. As did Gerbe. Besides the goal, he hit anyone, had tons of shots and was robbed by Denis. -Max. I think he had a strong game. Didn't have much room to work with but looked pretty good. Looked very determined and as the announcers kept saying, he is a "game changer". Tonight, each time he touched the puck, you thought he might do something to score. But, we all know he has great hands, what impressed me most with him was his hustle and his back checking tonight. He didn't get lazy and float. He was back checking and playing defense when he lost the puck. Either he finally "got it" or he's really trying to make some good money next summer, either way, i think he's going to be a real good player this season. -Chris Butler. Looked rock solid i thought. Considering he had to play with Mike Card, i don't have the box score infront of me, but i'm almost certain they weren't on the ice for any goal. Butler was hitting and can skate well. Each time Montreal attacked the Sabres zone, it seemed like #34 was making a solid defensive play. And he got in the faces of several of their players. -Patrick Lalime. Solid game. The first goal was a total fluke. The other two were odd man rushes on the penalty kill. The 3rd goal by Plekanec was all Marc-Andre Gragnani's fault. I don't know what he was thinking by sliding like that. Anyways, besides the goals who i don't blame Lalime on, he was great. Had several glove saves where you'd think there would be a goal for sure. I'm really excited to see Lalime play in real games. Negatives- -Ice Size. The ice was tiny. Which means, speedy players couldn't really do much, and you couldn't really get a good read on any players. Once the play got slowed down inside the blue line, it was a huge mess. The event was cool, but the ice made it hard to tell how some players were doing. And the scored reflected that, as i thought the better team lost tonight. -Our PP. Both power plays were awful, mostly because each PP you slow it down and play your plays, and well... there was little room to do anything, so PP were horrible. However, that doesn't explain our sloppy play to allow 2 short handed goals. I know Sabres probably tried to make a stronger rush to beat the no space zone, and it back fired, but twice? Really? -Clarke MacArthur. This dude is fighting for a roster spot? He showed nothing tonight. He was lazy and looked like he didn't even care. A player with his style, is a player a game like this needed to win, since there was no room. He didn't do anything to impress me. I've always been a huge MacArthur fan but it's not a secret that he was lazy in Rochester, he got his points and floated and thats a major reason why he didn't get too many calls from Lindy, but tonight was the same MacArthur that i'd see sometimes at Blue Cross Arena. Slow. Lazy. No desire. Very sad for a player with his skill to care so little. I expected a player who's fighting for a NHL spot to play each game like it's his last. -Nathan Paetsch. Ok. I think it's getting to the point where i don't even understand why he's in the NHL. The guy was horrible for the 2nd game in a row. Defensively he was bad. Offensively he kept losing the puck. I honestly don't understand with him. Noone he will break the top 6 and when anything goes down to a top-6 player, no doubt in my mind we will call up Mike Weber. -Toni Lydman. He just looked bad tonight. He looked slow and very confused like he wasn't ready to play. He gave the puck away several times and few of his shots were totally blocked and i have no idea where he was even attempting to shoot at. Last season was a real bad year for him, but i thought it was just a fluke season, but after tonight, i am not so sure. Looks like he may be over the hill and it's only going to get worse..... And i just want to say, i have NHL Network at home, so it didn't matter to me that much, but i'm real happy that they put it on MSG so many others could see. I am not sure why it was so last minute and who had to work it out, but it was a genius move by whoever... Sabres, NHL or whoever.
LabattBlue Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 -Chris Butler. Looked rock solid i thought. From what I have seen & read, he isn't even cutting it at the AHL level.

Guest Sloth Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 TC is still skating with his head down damn it. :wallbash: I don't see how one of the best puck handlers in the game can't skate w/ his head up. Opposing players dream of drilling guys like that. Keep your head up and stay injury free Timmmmmmyyyyyy!!!!

Stafford looks looked like he didn't hit the conditioning workouts hard enough this Summer with those lazy penalties but at least he managed an assist on Roy's goal. Overall not bad for a preseason game - 3 days after Camp opens. This Saturday against Toronto should have a lot more intensity. Hope they dump some of the no-hopers like Card out of the lineup. Gerbe is the main one I'd like to see auditioning right now for a possible callup after starting in the AHL to get some pro game seasoning.
Campy Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 Slap me on the arse and call me Sally. I was annoyed with NHL09 for not pronouncing Dennis' name correctly, but it sure sounded like it isn't DEN-ee but the Anglo DEN-iss. Wasn't the first time I've been wrong and won't be the last... But man, it was just good to see them back on the ice.
Guest Sloth Posted September 24, 2008 Report Posted September 24, 2008 I SUCK at EA 09. I've never been bad at any type of videogame. I only have it on pro difficulty and I'm only averaging 2 goals a game! I've been 2K for so many years it's causing me problems to get used to the control set up. I'll see the cpu pull some SICK moves and I'm just like "damn...that was smooth." Any advice fellas?
