Last minute is hardly the word, he's under contract now.

True dat...

Sorry folks, but there is no way this gets done before the season. If they wanted it done, it would have been. This is going to turn into a saga..

Well, congrats to pommers when he gets his 8 mil a year contract from whomever. I know he's an RFA, but with the guys that we have coming up in the system, I really don't see management feeling like their balls are in a sling on this one.

Either way, hope he has a great year and gets what he gets come next year. Whether it be with us or not.

You think it is that easy to replace a guy who has scored 61 goals and 148 points over the last two years(including 80 points last year)? Let me cite recent history...Pat Lafontaine scored 91 points for the Sabres in 95-96 and Danny Briere scored 95 points for the Sabres in 06-07. Guess how many 80 point scorers there were in between these two over that 9 season period? NONE!

It is not like we have superstars waiting in the wings down on the farm who will burst on the scene and start putting up 80+ points a year. Kennedy, Gerbe, Zagrapan, MacArthur, Gogulla...who did you have in mind?

One other note on Pominville...if I had my way, I'd give Vanek's contract to Pominville and solicit trade offers for Vanek. I may eat my words later this year, but Pominville is WAY better defensively, can kill penalties and has proved he doesn't need a great center to score.

PS Pominville for captain! I have no idea how he comes across in the dressing room, but seems like the type of player everyone respects.

As long as he doesn't have a personal assistant, I have no problem with Pominville wearing the C.

Pominville signs!

Per wgr radio

Pominville Signs

Fantastic news. Really, a pretty solid offseason this year - locking up Miller and Pominville, acquiring Rivet, getting away from Donner and stocking Portland with some solid prospects...couldn't really ask for much more (except maybe moving 61 and 19.)

This offseason is a breath of fresh air after recent ones.

BTW - time to change the thread title.

Unfortunately, we are stuck with TC for this year, but IMO there is still hope that Max is moved prior to the season opener.

The story is on sabres.com now - I was flipping around in the site & all of a sudden it was there in "recent team info"

Excellent news - no more distractions now!

Hey LB,

May I formally protest locking the Pominville Signs! thread?

We already had a "When will Pommers sign & for how much thread" where I posted the theme of this thread: "WGR just stated that Pominville and his agent have given the Sabres a Friday deadline of getting a contract worked out. No negotiating during the season." yet this one was not closed.

Protest denied. :nana: Who cares...DR, LQ & SPG ar ebeing proactive; REJOICE!

I was trying to rejoice - I was so excited I created another thread! :D

But Drew Stafford and Andrej Sekera aren't signed beyond this season. This front office blows! They're tearing this team apart.

...go find a complaint/sarcasm thread somewhere! ;)
