tom webster Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 http://www.buffalonews.com/258/story/429869.html Thought I'd let everyone comment before I give my opinion.
Corp000085 Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Well, i'd like to think that a deal is probably going to be done. When the agent starts talking about a specific timeline (before training camp) and terms (long term), it means that they are discussing exactly that. When we start hearing stuff about no timeline, concentrate on hockey, wait to negotiate, we're far apart, etc. then we can worry. I fully expect a deal to be done by training camp.
LabattBlue Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 "Granted" a minority ownership in the team? Does granted=purchased or granted=given? How big of a minority stake did they get? Quinny just digging in so that we will be stuck with him forever and ever and ever...
inkman Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Larry Medicine Woman does not inspire confidence in me but I will give him the benefit of the doubt with ownership. This is probably another move in the direction of Tommy "sugar packets" selling the team.
That Aud Smell Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 man, talk about burying the lead. still, that sounds like good news on pommers. as for blue's question about the "granting": i infer that the organization structured in some ownership stake as a piece of the compensation puzzle for two senior officers -- while that's perhaps a more familiar scenario for people who work for publicly-traded companies (i.e., "ESOP's"), i don't see this piece of news as a remarkable development.

This is probably another move in the direction of Tommy "sugar packets" selling the team. Why? If anything, I think it cuts in favor of a sale NOT taking place anytime soon -- Quinn is a Buffalo guy. Owning a piece of the Sabres is probably a dream come true for him. man, talk about burying the lead. still, that sounds like good news on pommers. as for blue's question about the "granting": i infer that the organization structured in some ownership stake as a piece of the compensation puzzle for two senior officers -- while that's perhaps a more familiar scenario for people who work for publicly-traded companies (i.e., "ESOP's"), i don't see this piece of news as a remarkable development. I agree completely. Also -- I think this means a deal with Jason is going to happen, which is great.

I agree 100%. It's no big deal. It's like these guys were granted stock options as if it was a publicly traded company and these options give them partial ownership. Additionally, I'm a little surprised that they have only become part owners recently. Given the fact that Quinn's title is actually Managing Partner and not President, one would have thought that he was already part of the ownership team in the first place. If he weren't part of ownership, he'd just be a President. For those who have worked in Consulting or Auditing or any other large partnership firm, the CEO of the company is actually called the Global Managing Partner not President and CEO because they hold an equity stake in the company as a partner and take in a percentage of profits whereas a CEO has a different type of equity stake and his or her return usually comes from exercising of stock options.

Owning a piece of the Sabres is probably a dream come true for him. I'm not so sure that guarantee's anything about a sale! He may be just rewarding them with their "stock options" as someone else described before he actually sells his majority interest and those options go up in value. Also -- I think this means a deal with Jason is going to happen, which is great. I do agree here.

It is not uncommon at all for a Managing Partner to have no ownership stake in a company. Without knowing the specifics of the arrangement, it is hard to say if this facilitates a sale by TG or not. It obviously makes it easier to sell his majority of ownership while rewarding Quinn and DiPofi with a minority stake. As for Pominville, it took two and half weeks to finalize a deal with Miller once the parameters were agreed upon and I'd expect the same with Pominville. Like it or not, this is just a function of how this organization operates.
Team Strike Force Posted September 3, 2008 Report Posted September 3, 2008 Maybe if all of us chip in a few bucks we can buy out Quinn's share of the team. I don't like Quinn. That guy is a hurricane of hapless. And he's probably a bad tipper. And he's creepy. http://cdn.nhl.com/sabres/bc/images/quinn_larry_sm.jpg Who is DiPofi? This is the first time I've ever heard of him. Good to hear that some news about Pominville's progress. Don't want them to have to be forced to match an offer sheet next summer.
mphs mike Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Quinn & DiPofi = almost rises to the level of not news for the reasons already stated Pommers = a good omen. I believe he'll be here long term before training camp. Keep the population rising!

Guest Sloth Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 If Pomminstein signs a long-term deal I'm buying a jersey w/ his name on the back. Do any of you guys have a player's jersey? If so, which one(s). I've liked Pomminstein a lot ever since he scored the game winner against Ottawa in OT in the 05/06 playoffs. The other player I'd consider is Miller. When it's Miller time, it's Miller time!

When it's Miller time, it's Miller time! I bought my Pominville authentic RBK (2006-07) third jersey back after Pommer signed his last contract. Figured that he'd likely be here at least 3 years. Now, I am hoping for more. I bought my Roy authentic RBK (2006-07) home last fall after he signed that deal. I'm guessing that will be a safe for a while. So much so that I bought his game worn 2002 preseason (he played the season in Kitchener) black goat head jersey. That's my favorite jersey, of course.
Bmwolf21 Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Quinny just digging in so that we will be stuck with him forever and ever and ever...  I was thinking the same thing, Blue. Quinny's burrowing in like a tick. They'll have to drag him out of the office kicking and screaming this time. :wallbash: :wallbash:
Pullup Champ Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Who is DiPofi? This is the first time I've ever heard of him. Soccer style kicker graduated from Collier High June 1976, Stetson University honors graduate class of 1980, holds 2 NCAA Division One records, one for most points in a season, one for distance, former nickname "The Mule," the first and only pro-athlete ever to come out of Collier County and one hell of a model American........"

Guest Sloth Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 My favorite jersey would be a LaFontaine on vintage white. The Sabres vintage white jersey, imo, is the best jersey ever created in any sport. Again, for current players I'll go w/ Pomminstein. For any player to wear a Sabres uniform, I'd have to go w/ LaFontaine. Man, that guy was scary good and a lot of fun to watch.

LabattBlue Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Quinn spin at its best... ?I feel real good right now,? he said. ?Last year there were obviously issues over players not coming back, but Teppo Numminen was a significant injury. This year, we feel guys are healthy and we have essentially two new defensemen in Teppo and Craig Rivet. And [goaltender] Ryan Miller is in a position where he?s feeling secure and happy and doesn?t have the weight of the world on his shoulders.? Quinn said the feeling throughout the franchise is that the team is ?hungry, rested and positive.? ?It?s seemed like forever since we?ve played,? he said. ?. . . You go late [into the playoffs] and you don?t recover your senses until July. We had 13 arbitration cases one year and tough [unrestricted free agency] issues the next year. You just never really recover starting up in September after that.? http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/sabresnh...ory/430497.html I am glad that Teppo is being referred to as a "new defenseman" and that Miller is secure and happy. B-)

SMIRNOFF Posted September 4, 2008 Report Posted September 4, 2008 Do you still wear Satan's jersey or Gratton's jersey? Honestly.......no. The last time I had on the Gratton, was the ECF against Canes. For Christmas 2 years ago, my wife got me the blue Vanek jersey. I know a lot of people rag on the "slug", but I don't mind wearing it.
