That Aud Smell Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 Stu Barnes. i'll second that emotion. but is stu strong on the dot? i just don't recall. (where does one find such a stat?) EDIT: answered my own questions: linkelage.
apuszczalowski Posted August 13, 2008 Report Posted August 13, 2008 You have to figure....................... If the Leafs don't want him, why would anyone else?
FogBat Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 I can't stand that SOB! Sabres don't need him. Which would you rather have? McCabe or Darcy Tucker (when he was still with the Leafs)?
Guest Sloth Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Stu Barnes. I was mad when stu was no longer a Sabre. I briefly forgot how bad the Sabres were on the faceoff last year. Whatever team controls the circle often controls the game. The Sabres need a faceoff specialist. I could care less about his other numbers. Well, +/- would be important too. I just want a guy who can win the faceoffs.
darksabre Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 I'm just going to keep saying Stu Barnes until either the Sabres sign him or someone else takes him off the market. He'd do just fine and the price tag wouldn't hurt. I don't see any problems with it.

I'm thinking 25%, but I hope I'm wrong and the Sabres are actually considering the idea seriously. Their "considerings" in the past have been bullshitt.
darksabre Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 I'm riding on the fact that no one has been reporting it as a rumor, therefore it's possible.

darksabre Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Don't worry, Eklund will be citing this site as a source soon enough. BARNES TO SABRES! (e3)
FogBat Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Don't worry, Eklund will be citing this site as a source soon enough. BARNES TO SABRES! (e3) Don't take this personally. I just hate reading or hearing the codename of a self-proclaimed "hockey expert" who does nothing but play with the emotions of every hockey fan out there. :wallbash:

He was making fun of Eklund and his highly questionable sources.

I just want a guy who can win the faceoffs. That was one reason why I preferred when the played Hecht-Gaustad-Pominville than when they played Paille/MacArthur-Hecht-Pominville. Gaustad may not necessarily have the offensive skills to center a top line, but at least he was on the right side of 50% on faceoffs.

I just hate reading or hearing the codename of a self-proclaimed "hockey expert" who does nothing but play with the emotions of every hockey fan out there. :wallbash: I'm not a great reader of the guy, but at least the most odious man in hockey is still about hockey (even if it is fiction), rather than say.... who is on the Riviera, or how the NFL, NBA, etc. have become like Entertainment Tonight..... so the guy throws out crazy trade ideas....he's not filling us in on who DiPietro is dating and the size of the house Sydney Crosby is looking at buying or how George Laraque handles himself on the nightclub scene. Love him or hate him, he's well within the code. It is something that often goes unsaid about hockey. His site is still about hockey - not the Romo-Simpson romance kind of shmaltz that is now pervading sports and even ESPN.
tom webster Posted August 14, 2008 Author Report Posted August 14, 2008 Looks like he is going to Florida. Maybe this starts a roller coaster effect? http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=246307&lid...=headlines_main

Maybe this starts a roller coaster effect?http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=246307&lid...=headlines_main Florida must be trading a defenseman. Maybe not to Toronto but somewhere. Maybe Van Ryn? I don't think they'd trade Allen?
X. Benedict Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Florida must be trading a defenseman. Maybe not to Toronto but somewhere. Maybe Van Ryn? I don't think they'd trade Allen? Not much on that Florida roster makes much sense to me other than Boumeester. But that would be pretty lopsided. My bet is Boomester ends up someplace like Phoenix for a handful of players and Florida ends up with McCabe and somebody else and Toronto ends up with somebody like Derek Morris. Unless picks are involved, but I don't think that will happen.

apuszczalowski Posted August 15, 2008 Report Posted August 15, 2008 Florida must be trading a defenseman. Maybe not to Toronto but somewhere. Maybe Van Ryn? I don't think they'd trade Allen? The ticker I saw last night said it was Van Ryn to Toronto and TSN was saying it was not Bouwmeester, and the LEafs may also be throwing in another player to the deal. Its pretty much official, but will not be announced til September 1 because McCabe wants the leafs to pay him his bonus, and then when he gets the bonus he will waive the no trade clause

I guess it's not really him but FLA not wanting to pay the 2 mill of his signing bonus this year, but still McCabe could have been nicer? Sucks for FLA they still get the full cap hit.

If this happens Toronto may be playing for Tavares. :D
spndnchz Posted September 2, 2008 Report Posted September 2, 2008 It's official As per TSN: Sources tell TSN the anticipated trade that would send veteran Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Bryan McCabe to the Florida Panthers will be made official by 11am et on Tuesday. The deal was held up while the Panthers waited for the Leafs to pay a $2 million bonus due to McCabe on Sept. 1. With the payout, McCabe, 33, will earn $4.15 million in each of the final three seasons of the five-year, $29 million contract he signed with Toronto in 2006. The Maple Leafs will receive defenceman Mike Van Ryn in exchange for McCabe and a draft pick.
