billsrcursed Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 Forgive me for chiming in here, but don't we have more than a hand full of "role players" as is? I mean, what is the purpose of Kaleta, for instance? To go out on the ice and F. somebody up, get the crowd and team going. Same goes for others whose job it is to do something minor, contribute to a whole purpose. So, why can't Weber be a guy like that? Why does he have to fully develop into an elite D-man before he can wear a Sabres sweater? Sorry, but to me that's crap. We need him to be physical....... he can already do that, and he does it rather well. How can someone say his liabilities would be any worse than someone else who may take his spot? I like Teppo too, but I think the attraction is his simplicity, and I guess leadership. That can be accomplished as a 7th for the most part, but Weber's contributions are needed on the ice ASAP. Put yourself in Miller's skates, then ask yourself who you'd rather have in front of you; a nice guy who has experience or a tough SOB that isn't gonna let someone skate in and check the strength of your pads?? I for one am sick of seeing Miller get run, night in and night out, with nobody doing anything about it......... :wallbash:

You want some knuckle-dragger on skates running around in your own zone like Kaleta does at the other end (and I love Kaleta, don't get me wrong)? Watch the goals against go up. I think some people are forgetting that the biggest thing Teppo brings is the smooth transition from defense to offense that the Sabres missed badly in his absence. If ole Yeller still has "it," I bet he's a top 4 guy on this team.
Stoner Posted August 14, 2008 Report Posted August 14, 2008 I guarantee he would lead the team. I have a more simple definition of "clearing the front of the net". To me it's confronting forwards with some agression when they are trying to obstruct or interfere with Miller. My only fear is that Weber will do just that and the Sabres will trade him because the Sabres seem to hate having tough hockey players on their roster. I guess I am too big a slave to words. "Clearing the front of the net" implies human snow-plow activity. Find a better term for it. Defending the motherland or something.
