Corp000085 Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/sabresnh...ory/410487.html signs with a russian team. Looks like peters will have to fight it out for the #13 spot with someone else now.

wjag Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 Ryan was a great 4th line player. Too bad he couldn't hit a barn with a puck let alone a goal mouth. I was hoping he'd stick around and hone his craft..

I was hoping he'd stick around and hone his craft.. "great"? Really? The kid had the basic skills and would have helped the Pirates this season but I never thought of him as having any significance or impact on the Sabres success.
Doohicksie Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 I think he meant "great" as in, "he's a great kid", not "as good as Wayne Gretzky"
outlaw16511 Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 Good riddens. I could never get myself to like him as a player. I guess I was always bitter he's who we got for Stu Barnes. Talk about an epic salary dump back at the 02-03 trade deadline.
stenbaro Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 My friend from the Sabres told me that amonth ago..At least he is right sometimes.... They didnt think he would progress any further.. http://forums.sabrespace.com/index.php...st&p=101825

At 28 it's pretty much "what you see is what you get." Not much more developing we could expect from him.
shrader Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 Unless Max is moved, it will be MacArthur. He's out options to go down wiyhout clearing waivers. Come on. We've been through this before. Stop using baseball terminology. They don't have options. :wallbash: ;)

Two or less Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 I liked him. I think he played over his welcome though, not in just Buffalo, but NHL. I watched several games of his in the AHL, and i don't think he was truly NHL quality. But when he arrived, he always gave a honest effort and was doing the little things. At first, thats all cool, but after a while, you need to bring more to the team. He stopped improving. I don't think he was great in any means, i think he was average, i do think he was a great Sabre when he was here, as in, always worked hard, good attitude, and never took a night off, and i think thats what Buffalo Sabres hockey is all about. He just lacked alot of skills. He has NO hands. He had chances, but couldn't finish.
Bmwolf21 Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008  Nice try, but no. Completely different situations/players/types of players.
FogBat Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 http://www.buffalonews.com/sports/sabresnh...ory/410487.htmlsigns with a russian team. Hey, Goodfella25! Looks like you got your wish. Kalinin's gone, and now Ryan. Maybe we'll finally be able to wake up from our slumber.
RuffRuff Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 Couple things with Ryan. He was pretty good. But that's as good as he's gonna be. He hasn't gotten better year over year, and the one part of his game that really bugged me is the fact that he's not strong on his skates. He was ineffective on the wall, and fell down more often than he put a puck on the net. Nice speed, but not skilled enough. He'll do well with the Ruskies. That league is THIN.

So much for getting Jagr... :D
inkman Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 At least it's one less marginal NHL player that will be thrown into the ridiculous trade rumor mix.
shrader Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 At least it's one less marginal NHL player that will be thrown into the ridiculous trade rumor mix. Don't worry, Mancari will soon take over that role.
SabresFan526 Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Don't worry, Mancari will soon take over that role. You think he'll make the team this year? I think he'll clear waivers with no problems.
shrader Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 You think he'll make the team this year? I think he'll clear waivers with no problems. He'll be just like Ryan after he became waiver eligible. He'll clear with ease.
inkman Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 You think he'll make the team this year? I think he'll clear waivers with no problems. No, but fringe posters will swoop in and declare the Sabres are trading Max, Kotalik and Mancari for Bouwmeester rather than Max, Kotalik and Mike Ryan.
R_Dudley Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 No, but fringe posters will swoop in and declare the Sabres are trading Max, Kotalik and Mancari for Bouwmeester rather than Max, Kotalik and Mike Ryan. Who is this fringe you speak of ? Is this a fringe poster
SwampD Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 No, but fringe posters will swoop in and declare the Sabres are trading Max, Kotalik and Mancari for Bouwmeester rather than Max, Kotalik and Mike Ryan. Didn't they already make that trade?
JoeFerguson Posted August 11, 2008 Report Posted August 11, 2008 Now that he is no longer a member of the team I want to say that his girlfriend would sometimes come and play pick up hockey on weekdays at the Pepsi Center at noon.`
