Wideman hits the jackpot...

Even more interesting is that the Bs are that far over the cap. That Manny Fernandez contract is a lead weight pulling them down. At least they have Tim Thomas for crazy cheap over the next two years to offset that bad contract. I wonder who they are going to buy out. A guy like PJ Axelsson is a bargain and would be a nice fit here (not that we necessarily need any more wingers).

Axelsson is a center I believe.

As for Wideman not sure what the B's see in him as how he could command that much.

wideman instantly becomes a candidate to be one of the 4 horsemen of the impending nhl fiscal apocalypse.

i'm not saying he's not a nice young player, because he certainly is, but the fact that the bruins (of all teams) are willing to speculate that much on this kid is troubling to me.

I never understood the Wideman dealing. Sabres had him, then failed to sign him?? Not saying the guy is awesome, but wasn't sure why he just slippped away. And don't say fax machine blunder LOL!

As part of the Wideman signing, the Bruins have put Glen Murray on Waivers:

I would not mind signing Murray on the cheap if he's bought out. Interesting move by Boston, that's for sure, but hardly unexpected given the season Murray just had.

Glen Murray, placed on unconditional waivers yesterday, was not claimed by any team prior to today's 12 p.m. deadline.

The Bruins can complete Murray's buyout tomorrow.

Not all that unthinkable now that he will be free to negotiate with any team he wants. Some one will pay this guy to play this year.... depends on how much cap anybody has left.

Can't recall, Is there a veteran discount towards cap hit vs salary like football for a older vet like this ?

Nope. Cap hit is whatever the average annual value of the contract is.

IF he ends up on a 1 year deal, due to his age he can have incentives included which (under most circumstances) would not count against this year's cap but would reduce his new team's cap space by an equivalent amount the following year.
