 2006-07	Barrie OHL 30	3	12	15	+22	86	- -

59 AHL games, and 16 NHL games isn't much evidence to say he is ready. It is far more important he get more ice time in the AHL. The guy people could care less about (Paetsch) had far more success in the AHL and had a great start in the NHL, too, before regressing. He was at one point was our solution to the power play.

The guy is only 20 years old... Let him come up halfway through the season when Hank gets hit awkwardly into the boards and breaks something again. Set the guy up to succeed under incrementally increased expectations rather than anoint him a top 4 d-man and let him fail under the pressure.

If the kid can play let him play. He showed he can handle the speed of the NHL. For most of those 16 games the Sabres were fighting for their playoff lives and all the kid did was put up a plus 12 and tossed 45 hits. I want to see this kid in a Sabre uniform on opening night.

Solid. He should do just fine with Sekera.

Only worry is, why nobody else was after him?

Actually, word was there were a couple of teams that were interested in him, but he wants to stay in Buffalo. The LA Kings apparently are showing a bit of interest, at least according to the Buff News this morning.

When I think facts and accuracy I think the Buffalo News. The same paper that brought you the headlines :

"Custer Wins Battle At Little Bighorn".

"McKinley to be OK after Worlds Fair incident."

and

"Federal Authorities Investigating Disturbance at Pearl Harbor."

I remember that shot. He has a one-game, one shot, highlight reel. He didn't come close to that level of play last year.

2006-2007 Sabres 41 13 14 27 5 33 3 0 3 67 19.4

2007-2008 Sabres 64 16 22 38 3 51 1 0 5 103 15.5

I know he only played 41 games his first time getting called up but his numbers look like they would have been about the same had he played those other 23 games. 11 points difference. He may have been hire if he did play more when he was called up but that tends to happen. Other teams don't have that much on players that are in the AHL. They keep track, maybe, but they don't keep an eye on them like a fat kid making sure no one touches his cake.

You can say he had a bit of a sophomore slump but I do still think he has a lot to offer when it comes to the future of this team. Assuming he isn't used as trade bait throughout the season or next summer.

The longer this drags out, the more I'm inclined to think that Teppo won't be back.

From now on, I'm going to try to ignore Darcy's rumors. Eklund isn't worth one second of my time either. Either it happens or it doesn't.

Regardless of what anyone says, this is a great signing by the Sabres. $1.1 million is virtually nothing that goes to a solid leader and a guy who is a very good player. And, Teppo's an upgrade over Pratt. I like the Top 6 going into next year as:

Lydman-Tallinder

Spacek-Rivet

Teppo-Sekera

I think our blueline is significantly better with Paetsch/Weber as the 7th defenseman. I'm happy. Pominville's next.

I've said it all along, but the loss of teppo last year hurt the team far far worse than the loss of briere and drury. The team was very capable of covering for the loss of those guys. The defense was not prepared. Their "top" pair of tallidman was exposed as a second pairing, and kalinin could not handle the burden. Campbell sucked without teppo and paetsch was unable to step into a full time NHL roll. Teppo, as a player-coach, as a 5th or 6th guy and a pk specialist is a gigantic upgrade over anything the sabres put on the ice last year. Darcy has done his job this offseason and hopefully this has erased doubt from last year.

And with all of the talk of a lack of veteran leadership last year, he was the guy that was supposed to fill that role. Look how much better each of those guys on the blue line looked when he was playing the 2 previous years. Watching him play even that one game last year, I could see a great hockey mind at work on the ice. That kind of thing rubs off on the other players. I'm not going to go out and say that this is a move that puts us over the top, but I can't think of any reason to complain about it. All in all, its a solid signing.

I like the signing of Teppo a lot, but there is no way his loss hurt "far, far" more than the other two. As a whole the loss of those three was significance but I'll take either of the other players before I would take Teppo.

I'm a team guy too, and I like the additions of Rivet and Teppo quite a bit, but this is a bit over the top. Tom W. is correct about Drury and Briere. Moreover, Darcy's job this offseason won't be done unless and until he gets us a tough veteran center in exchange for one or more of our upcoming UFAs AND re-signs Pommer. We need some leadership and clutch production up front, not to mention faceoff wins. If Darcy lets us sail into the season just keeping our fingers crossed that Connolly is going to stay healthy and be our #1 or #2 center all year, it will be sheer negligence.

Moreover, I can't agree that a good trade for Rivet and re-signing Teppo and Miller should "erase" the doubts created by the July 2007 CF, which was inexcusable and led directly to a President's trophy team crashing and burning. Were these moves a good start? Absolutely. But they have a long way to go to atone for that sin.

Agree 100%.

I'd be less concerned if Teppo was sparkin up a bowl rather than a marlboro.

That would probably be preferable if he was hanging out with you and your crew eating wings and watching the games on TV, but not if he's on the ice making split-second decisions under intense pressure.

The NHL already has guaranteed contracts. If the players start getting baked, it's going to turn into the NBA before you know it.

Pass the doritos, please.

For last season, I'd have taken one those two (preferably Chris) back first, but then I would have taken Teppo before the other. On top of that, I'd have taken a physical Dman (for example, Rivet) as my third choice before taking the second of Danny/Chris. Roy would have covered the other top-line center spot, with Connolly covering when Chris or Derek was out, and then Gaustad, Mair and Connolly could have covered the third and fourth lines (obviously two at any one time).

Note: this does take into account the (likely) relative $ and years for each contract.
