Sabres are not the only ones doing this

Of course other teams are doing it. The only people calling them cheap or saying they are unwilling to spend are those who haven't actually done their research.

There, I said it.

Zing! Zang!

BTW, despite a $50 million budget, they are currently close to $51 million in salary for next year and it sounds like they will re-sign Teppo, likely pushing them to $52 million. Unless they can find a way to unload Max, they will have spent more than their stated budget to keep what they consider their core players (notice I said "they consider" -- didn't want the Brain arguing with me about whether or not they actually are core players :P )

That would explain why they moved Erik Cole. It should get interesting when Staal hits restricted free agency next year.

Not to mention dumping Commodore and Stillman at the trade deadline. A lot of fans considered those two guys a large part of the Canes' cup team in `06.

Absolutely, but I like their return in that deal far more than the Cole deal.

Is the 50 mil Sabres budget a "cap budget" or an "actual spending budget"?

I asked the same question since their cap hit would be about $50 with Teppo, but Shrader pointed out that it really wouldn't make sense to be a cap budget. I agree that it wouldn't really make sense to have a budget on money that you may or may not actually be spending that year. Sure, you have to spend it at some point, but ...

The key, as someone else pointed out, is that they are looking to take Max's $3.33 million off the books as soon as possible.

I have no problem with how much the Sabres spend they haven't gone cheap.

It's how they spend it.

See, you can speak intelligently sometime, although truth be told, this year's expected cap hit will leave them in the bottom ten in the league. Prior to this year, however, cheap is definitely not a correct adjective.

Saw this article in the Charlotte paper and just found the link

Canes have a self imposed $45 mil cap/buget. Although Golisano doesn't seem cheap in comparison, the Canes were just as competitive when the post season started this year as the Sabres were. :wallbash:

Wanted to share this info and get any thoughts.

They also have a cup win too, and are in an area where the fans treat the sport lower then Nascar and college sports.
