Wyldnwoody44 Posted November 7 Report Posted November 7 After driving in Jordan, I don't think I can complain about drivers in the good ol USA... I mean I still will, but damn, it was like real life Grand Turismo. Quote
Demoted Posted November 7 Report Posted November 7 (edited) To the lady driving past me this morning the wrong way on a one way highway... hope you don't hurt anyone but yourself. Oh if you are wondering why I said that b.c I beeped to try and get her attention and she flipped me off as she drove past me. Edited November 7 by Demoted Quote

So not only is she driving the wrong way on a one way highway, but she's also reading this forum on her phone right now? Some people shouldn't be allowed to drive. 1 Quote

Oh if you are wondering why I said that b.c I beeped to try and get her attention and she flipped me off as she drove past me. I had a somewhat similar experience a few years ago. I was in Syracuse for work, and was in a parking lot of a plaza. I drove down the lane in the parking lot, and when I came to a the end of the lane, someone was coming from the right, making a left turn into the lane I was in. Basically, she cut the turn short, didn't see me around the corner, and almost drove into me head on. She 'corrected' at the last minute and swerved onto her side of the road. What was signficant about that? I was stopped at the 'intersection' in the parking lot, she made the turn too short, and all I did was stay stopped and looked at her, as she drove by she was yelling something at me like it was my fault, and then there was a woman in the back seat who gave me the finger. The most surprising part? They were all probably in their 40's or 50's. It seems we are more and more getting to the point that as a society, we cannot admit when we are wrong. Its blame the other person first, yell at someone else first before admitting guilt. 1 Quote

We'll be saying our goodbyes to him very soon. 1 Quote

LTS Posted November 7 Report Posted November 7 (edited) The NYS Department of Labor can eat a bag of ______. I had a fraud incident during COVID (someone tried to claim unemployment using my SSN). So, I can log into the NYS DOL site. I have verified my identity. But the PIN is wrong, and when I try to reset my PIN it wants my mother's maiden name which is also incorrect (apparently, the name they have on file is NOT the right answer). So, I try to call. Each call is 1 minute and 20 seconds of prompts and answers before the line tells you that they are busy and it hangs up on you. So, after redialing and going through that process 30 times I finally get in a queue to wait another 20 minutes to talk to someone. That person informs me that the fraud flag is still on my account and I need to get it cleared. But they can't help. That's the fraud department, so they give me the number and transfer me. I get a voice message saying everyone's busy and it hangs up on me. Good news, I can open an incident online for fraud, although it's not fraud now. So I do... 3 days later no answer. I've been calling the fraud people but while it's only waiting online for 45 seconds per call while I listen to the message repear, it still ends up hanging up. The real kicker? The fraud department only is open 9am-12pm Monday - Friday. Say WHAT? So, I still can't submit an unemployment claim, which I have to do so my supplemental unemployment benefits are paid out by the severance package. The Dept. of Labor has call queues, just not big enough to handle all the calls coming in. They COULD invest in a callback queue system which basically operates like the old "take a number and we'll call you" of the DMV or the deli counter at the supermarket. But they don't do that. Instead they just have people redialing their numbers, wasting hours and hours of their time, building up an insane amount of frustration. I can only imagine just how much irritation has built up for some people when they finally get to speak to someone. I bet it makes the job of the people who answer the phones that much harder having to listen to extremely angry people. In any event... I guess I will spend another 3 hours tomorrow redialing the same number and listening to the same message, over, and over, and over, and over... Fun. Edited November 7 by LTS 1 Quote
shrader Posted November 7 Report Posted November 7 @LTS, is there any in-person option available? Quote

And to not have to work election night was pretty sweet as well. 1 1 Quote
shrader Posted November 7 Report Posted November 7 Some idiots have been shooting at cars in the highway out here this week. They’ve got a swat team taking in some college-looking kids right now. Idiots. Quote
mjd1001 Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 2 things that happened to me this week: 1.) The person (usually an older woman but sometimes its some guys) who goes out in public wearing WAAAAAYYYY too much perfume, and its never the 'softer' smelling ones, but the ones that are so sharp that when you take one whiff of it it feels like someone put a spike through your head. Seriously, I was at the UPS store the other day and I got hit with it when I walked through the door, and the woman wearing it was still 8-10 feet away. When I got in line, it was so strong/heavy of a sharp floral smell it made my nose start tingling in a bad way. 2.) This one is usually the women again (not to pick on them specifically, but it happens). When you are checking out at a store...a grocery store, the post office...once the Cashier gives your your change (or the receipt if you play by credit card), can you please move along and make room for the next person. It happens too often where the woman in front of me gets her receipt, the cashier is waiting for me to step up, but the customer grabs the receipt...then puts their purse up on the ledge...opens the purse, puts the receipt inside in some deep dark space that takes 5-10 seconds to find....zippers the purse back up...slowly puts it back over their shoulder....and ONLY THEN moves out of the way. (this happens at the post office frequently). How hard would it be to step aside and move 3 feet down the counter, or turn around and use the table to do all of that so the line can keep moving and you don't hold up everyone else behind you? It was a big news story here last week. It wasn’t too far away, an area the wife drives through a lot. The guy was an absolutely idiot and they caught him right away. Have I shared much neighborhood stuff? Nothing should come anywhere close to the level of this one. Quote

I think it was called cable. I miss that. Remember when everyone wanted a la carte television? Well, they have it now. Somewhat. In my never ending Complaint Thursday saga against the NYS Department of Labor I have learned that if you re-dial the Fraud hotline repeatedly between the hours of 9am and 12pm you will eventually break into their hold queue and get to talk to someone. What I have also learned is that despite what the process and unemployment office says, those people are only a call center and are only able to complete an online form that I had already completed. Despite all my requests and pleas the lady on the other end of the line told me that basically I have to just sit and wait and hope and that despite what everything else says, they can't do anything. At least I had the pleasure of her being one of the rudest, least caring, and condescending people I've ever spoken with. I'm sure it's a tough job, but I wasn't being an ass to her even. So after 30+ hours of repeatedly trying to get someone from the fraud department I learned that there's no one there. It's a call center to do what I had already done. So yes.. I will wait the 2 weeks minimum they told me I need to wait and then I will be contacting any and all governmental representatives to see if they can assist. Meanwhile, I'm not getting the supplemental unemployment from my company... thankfully I had been planning the past few years for this inevitability. Anyone who thinks that more government doing more things for the citizens of this country is a good thing, please keep reading why I am steadfastly against it. ARGH. Quote

repster Posted November 14 Report Posted November 14 First time posting in this thread I believe. At least 7 times, might have actually been 8 as I lost count at the end, but regardless… This is how often the Sabres play the second half of a back to back game, when the team they are playing isn’t playing the night before and is just resting and waiting for them. Do you know how often the Sabres are waiting, resting for an opponent to come off the second half of a back to back to play them? Once. Once! NHL scheduling is putting the Sabres at a competitive disadvantage with 10% of their schedule. No? Well, they are 0-2 so far in these games. Let’s see how they fare in the rest of these, shall we?
