darksabre Posted August 3, 2017 Report Posted August 3, 2017 (edited) I started running last week and after my run last night it appears I've overdone it and re-aggravated whatever injury I sustained to my jewels back in June playing paintball. I suppose it's time for me to see a doctor :( Edited August 3, 2017 by d4rksabre

SwampD Posted August 3, 2017 Report Posted August 3, 2017 No, no worries about soapboxing! That's the problem with art... it's not a necessity. I can't hawk a shirt or print and say "this fancy design will totally cook your eggs faster/clean your house better/improve your life as a must need". It's just... "you like to look at it? Do you like to look at it so much that you're willing to pay money so you can look at it alllll the time?" My main source of income right now is designs for a guy who sells patches/shirts/hats. He makes bank (is a cop full time, this is his side hustle), and pays me very well. He has a niche group that loooove to spend money on military morale patch stuff. He found that sweet spot, and together we're always coming up with new ideas to sell. I don't have that niche yet. I could go after aerialists... but I don't want to go all in on an idea that I'm not sure will actually profit. Hockey isn't working out as I want it to (doesn't mean I'll stop). The average sports fan doesn't want to spend 30 on a shirt, you have to be fan base specific, etc. Aerialists... they're rarer, but often love to advertise their hobby/livelihood and are willing to drop coin. And there aren't any good aerialist shirts out there. I posted rough sketches and have a bunch of Cirque du Soleil and professional circus artists following me now. I stopped reading after that.
MattPie Posted August 3, 2017 Report Posted August 3, 2017 I'm in the process of writing up some design documents that are putting the nails in the coffin of a really cool cluster storage technology I wanted to implement on some work stuff I'm doing. I really wanted to make Ceph work, but it's just a little too complex for what we need to do and not really suited to small environments (3-5 servers). Gluster (what I'm going with) is kinda cool too, but not as elegant.
josie Posted August 3, 2017 Report Posted August 3, 2017 I stopped reading after that. Well yes on a broader theme of course we need the arts, that's not what I'm talking about. C'mon. If you're asking the average joe to shell out 30-50 bucks on something, chances are they are going to choose other things besides art. They see a print or shirt they like, it goes on the favorite list, sometimes they'll bite on it around the holidays. Maybe I just have a "I can't afford much and feel guilty buying anything" mentality now. But I doubt I'm the only one.
North Buffalo Posted August 3, 2017 Report Posted August 3, 2017 Its not Friday... Sabres aren't playing
darksabre Posted August 3, 2017 Report Posted August 3, 2017 uh.... Yup. Went to urgent care and as usual they were more helpful than I expected. Doc says I look fine but I should drown the pain in ibuprofen. Gave me a scrip to get an ultrasound done too just in case.

Ogre Posted August 4, 2017 Report Posted August 4, 2017 I've been on prednisone for two days now for autoimmune garbage. It is seriously with my head. Dark Blue right out of the blue. Some of the darkest notions I've ever considered. Then a little later I'm fine. Downright spooky.

Buffalo Wings Posted August 4, 2017 Report Posted August 4, 2017 Maybe it's the weather or the looming solar eclipse, but in the past few days I've seen more boneheaded behavior from both drivers and pedestrians than I have all year. It hasn't been just the past few days...it's more like the past few years. More & more drivers lately have clearly gotten their license from a Cracker Jack box. It's maddening how many don't know the rules or are just a-holes with their car.

darksabre Posted August 10, 2017 Report Posted August 10, 2017 Doc says my balls (or should I say ball, singular) are fine and there's nothing they can do for me. My course of treatment is time, ibuprofen, and not doing anything too athletic that might re-aggravate it. Who knows how long that will be given that it's already been almost 2 months since the injury occurred. I hope I can play some hockey this winter but I guess we'll see. And so much for getting back in shape with any kind of cardio.
Samson's Flow Posted August 10, 2017 Report Posted August 10, 2017 I've never had a problem with a NY DMV. Am I the only one? Just went in there last week to renew my license (get a new picture since mine is 10 years old) and pick up a EZpass. It was a relatively pleasant experience and I was in and out in under an hour. Went to the Cheektowaga DMV at around 3pm on a Tuesday. I have no idea what Liger's situation is, but i'm sorry man.

Maybe this is best for a PM, but I've been giving this some thought for a while and if you are willing I may ask you to create Buffalo centric print/digital media for framing at my home using your unique style. I haven't come up with the exact idea, but give me a bit and i'll get back to you. Of course this is only if you want to and have time... that and you get the bonus of naming your price

darksabre Posted August 10, 2017 Report Posted August 10, 2017 This is good news, not bad. It's good news sure. But it doesn't make sitting at work all day any more pleasant.

And so much for getting back in shape with any kind of cardio. I had a nice young man with his hands on my balls just this morning. One has been swollen and just a little sore for a about a month now and I got a little concerned and made the appointment last week. I was putting my crazy kid to bed two days ago, though, when I had an aha moment. If she doesn't hit me in the nuts every day, it's at least every other day, so much so that I didn't even figure it into the equation. I got less worried but still kept the appointment. Ultrasound and PSA just to be sure.

More & more drivers lately have clearly gotten their license from a Cracker Jack box. It's maddening how many don't know the rules or are just a-holes with their car. This. Today I saw a driver make a right turn on red DIRECTLY in front of an oncoming garbage truck (more like a "right through on red"). Those things do not stop on a dime and you certainly don't want to be hit by one. A pretty big risk to save five seconds. I sold my motorcycle a few years back because there are way too many distracted drivers on the road.

Went to the one out here in Williamsville yesterday and the genius told me I didn't have the right information. I knew I did. Brought his boss over. Sure enough, everything's there... but was a solid 5 minutes of him being standoffish and "I don't know what to tell you" and my blood pressure spiking. I was just getting a new title. It wasnt exactly rocket surgery! Maybe this is best for a PM, but I've been giving this some thought for a while and if you are willing I may ask you to create Buffalo centric print/digital media for framing at my home using your unique style. I'm still wicked backed up on work right now (I have a couple commissions from like... May... sitting half done because stuff keeps coming up)... but I can always stick you on a list. Depending on the kind of work, I can slide it in on a busy day during a feedback loop sometimes too. ------- Y'all need to be more careful with your balls. Seriously.
nfreeman Posted August 10, 2017 Report Posted August 10, 2017 It's a small thing, but still: those toll transponders that rental cars have that allow you to use the EZ Pass lanes? I learned today that Hertz charges $5 per day to use them. It's a complete gouge and is not disclosed when you rent a car online, other than a mention, only visible if you scroll down under "terms and conditions," that an unspecified service charge applies. Hertz Gold Club is by far the best way to rent a car IMHO, but this is a BS move by them.
