Is crossing guard a paid position? Every morning on the way to work I see these two standing on a side walk talking away. They are nowhere near an intersection, so I have no idea why they're even out there. And a couple weeks back, I saw one who was actually talking on her cell phone while kids were crossing a busy street. She was actually stopping traffic, but wasn't paying much attention.

wow. just wow. :(

My complaint today: people who don't cash checks quickly. I wrote 2 checks for a ski trip, and with the holiday/gift giving season here, need to buy a few more presents for people. I need to be careful about how much I spend though, as I really have $800 less than what my bank account shows. I hate having checks in the wind like this (I wrote the first one during the second week of November, and the second one the week of Thanksgiving), and have asked that these be deposited, but was told they will get to it when they can (meaning probably around the 20th of this month). :censored: GAH!

I am one of those people.

I never thought it would be possible to ruin an hour of supermodels walking around in lingerie, but Victoria's Secret found a way. Justin Bieber? On the VS fashion show? Are you f'n kidding me? :censored: :wallbash:

if you tell me when you plan on depositing it, fine, but don't leave it out there for a month + and counting without even a hint of when you'll deposit it. The trip isn't till March, so why I needed the last of the payments now is beyond me, especially with it being so close to Xmas

I just seldom stop by the bank. It's one very walkable block from my house, and I just don't. I'll wait until my wallet has noticeably expanded because there are four or five checks in it, and then I'll go.

I consider this to be a flaw, by the way. I'm not sure why I'm confessing it here.

SabreSpace, absolve me from my check-cashing sins.

Those ATMs that allow you to make deposits are the greatest creation in the history of banking.

I am realizing that my buddies wedding (for which I am the best man) is going to cost me personally a fortune. We are getting suits so I will be buying his. His bachelor party is going to be in Orlando so anything he wants to do for that 4day weekend I will also be paying for. This includes the high priced dinner we are planning as well as the fun activities.

I know, and yet I still don't do it.

If it makes you feel any worse, most banks have check deposit by smartphone now.

Whoa. This blows my mind. Anyone know if M&T does this?

When I had my brothers stag party I ended up handing him $1500 at the end of the night. I sold tickets that covered the room, food and female entertainment. Then I had some sports memorabilia donated for a raffle, had a 50/50 split raffle where the winner ended up donating his half to the groom, I had two blackjack tables where the house cut went to the groom. The only thing I paid for out of pocket was the cab fare back from Ft. Erie after the party when our ride stranded us there.

Who else is in the wedding party, can't they share some of the cost and planning?

If it wasn't in Orlando we could have more ppl and do raffles easier and stuff and your stag party sounds fun. The brides brothers are coming, and I think 4 other guys and I don't see most of them offering to help much. The catch is for 2 of the 4 nights, the bridesmaids and such will also be with us so it will be interesting. A lot of stuff is just not in my hands, but you have given me some ideas, thanks!

Good ones today....

I once blew up a Vegas connection on helping host a bachelor party. We had 10 guys....8 of which probably read this board :P , but I got everyone comped at a good place for a few nights and casino rate the others with the idea that you gamble at the place you are at...especially in appreciation for $3500 in waived hotel rates. The host was old school and loved me. Hooked us up with free buffet, club passes. Only 1 of the guys got the message I was pounding in their heads and bunkered down with me. The rest sprinkled their wads about town in a touristy fashion. I had to appologize to my host and even though I knew he would still take care of me, I didn't have the nerve to ever go there again. I vouched and whiffed. Much shame.

The strip club made up for it though. :w00t:

If I'm walking back to my desk, and I have a food box from the cafeteria, that's probably not the best time to try to get me to talk in-depth about why someone hates our boss. Bringing up samples our boss asked this person to look at (for very glaring reasons), then saying, "These suck. I don't get why he wants me to look at these!" is not at all my concern at the moment; my concern is eating my calzone while it's still hot.

Honestly ... an ounce of observational common sense would go so far, but very few around here seem to possess the necessary skills to implement it.

I work with probably a dozen or so people like you describe here. There are two in particular that if I'm ever forced to work with on a project again, then I will have no option but to hand in my letter of resignation the very same day.

haha this happens to me on a daily basis. Go to the microwave to warm up lunch, get stopped on my way back to the desk. 10 minutes later, my soup/leftovers/sandwich etc is cold. gah! Hate that

I am part of a small business owner networking group. As it turns out it is me and one other that meet regularly, the others are hit and miss. We meet each Friday morning, unless something comes up that is unavoidable.

Last week the other person cancelled our meeting as they were not feeling well.

This week I was working on a project for a client and the report was due next week. They just called me to see if they could have the report by tomorrow evening, as they were meeting with people over the weekend to discuss. No problem. So, I just called my colleague to explain the situation and to postpone our meeting for tomorrow, as I will be chained to my desk.

Long ramble to my complaint ...

... my friend sounded deathly ill on the phone when I called to postpone our meeting, but they were not about to call to postpone. "I feel fine" and then she just about barfed from the caughing fit that ensued after saying just those 3 words.

Even better (or equally awesome? The smartphone thing freaks me out a little.): my credit union lets me deposit checks online up to $1500 and drop them in the mail. The funds are available immediately, too. Suh-weet.

Back to the original spirit of the thread:

1) The customer service people in GE and Home Depot appliance divisions are not bright. After the entire debacle last week with needing to have a new oven delivered because it looked like the one I received was damaged, it turned out that's just how they're supposed to look (grey speckled pattern on black with texture, not solid black as described / pictured) so I took extra time off work and had the hassle of dealing with the bozo delivery guy Friday night for nothing. Seriously dude, if I tell you to park on a specific street at the back of my house, don't go to the front of my house and call, then park on a different side street after I remind you to go to the back and run up to my neighbor's back door because you're too stupid to follow directions. And if I ask you to raise the level of my stove to match my countertops, don't ask me if I *really* want you to do that; just do it and GTFO of my kitchen.

2) This one is a mostly happy ending, but just found out a few days ago that my dad had a narrow miss with a heart attack. After experiencing some heartburn that didn't get better with prescription medication and not finding any sort of stomach issue that would cause it, his doc decided to do a cardiac catheterization since my grandfather died at 43 of a heart attack (my dad is 57). Thank God he did, because he found two blockages and was able to put in stents to open them back up. The crazy thing is, his cholesterol isn't even high. Hopefully between catching this early and some new meds he'll be okay going forward.

COBRA.

We recieved the updated health insurance rates for this comoing year. The lowest price policy, a high deductible HSA plan with a $2400 deductible to be met each year is going to cost me out of pocket a whopping $762/month once I'm done at work on Jan 5.

There are a couple subsidized plans that I'll be eyeballing in the next couple of weeks.

Good news, bio!

I think so, too, but now I'm driving myself crazy reading about side effects and drug interactions for Plavix, Lipitor, and Prilosec. (Sometimes having a background in biomedical research isn't a good thing!) Freaks me out, too, because my cholesterol was borderline high when they started screening me at 24, and even though it's in the "safe" range now, so was his. Family history is not on my side. :(

OUCH. I have to wonder if you couldn't find something cheaper on your own there. I hope everything works out.
