Local school boards. Most of the people on them are complete dolts and considering they are dealing with our childrens education, they hold a surprising amount of power.

You should run for school board then. Seriously.

Three states and one District, nowhere have I lived where the school board even was competent. It's everywhere.

Run.

My complaint: yesterday I had a perfect story for the WTF Wednesday thread, and I don't think it was ever unlocked. :( So the story goes:

Driving in to work, and I'm waiting at a stop light. It's a four lane road with a separate left turning lane in each direction, and I'm in the left lane (not turning). The light changes, and some fool in the right lane slowly drives into the intersection with their left turn signal on. I'm trying to figure out why they'd need to move over then since there's no truck or anything like that blocking their lane, and once they get in front of me they proceed to sit in the middle of the intersection with their signal on so they can merge with the left-turning traffic yet another lane over. On top of that, they could have easily pulled into the corner gas station on their side of the intersection and come back out facing the way they wanted to go without disrupting traffic. WTF?

Part of the reason I suggested he run is so that he sees all of the things that constrict and shape the decisions that school boards make. I served on our sons' school steering board for 3 years. I had no idea how painted into a corner schools are.

Bartholomu the killer whale ripped my left arm off. He was livid! Thought that his mom Shamu loved me more than him! But unbeknownst to me, I can't hear A GODDAMN THING UNDERWATER. How was I supposed to know their relationship had gone stale?

My gosh you ain't kidding. My daughter got admitted to her "dream school" early action and my husband and I are in a bit of a panic trying to figure out how we are going to pay for it. We are not rich, but comfortable, and therein lies the rub. Low income = paid for, wealthy=no problem, we can pay. Middle class? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

It's University of Chicago and the tuition plus room and board and whatever else is almost $60,000 a year. Seriously. We will get some aid, and she has some merit scholarships. I hope the package is enough to make it viable for her. She really wants to attend that school very badly, and it really is perfect for her.

Good grief; medical school doesn't cost that much!! This doesn't apply to you / her just yet, but may be of interest in the near future:

interest rates on federal Stafford loans set to double in July and a petition to Congress to keep that from happening

Frustrating for me that this apparently only applies to undergraduate loans (my graduate Stafford loans are already 6.8%), but hopefully they can at least help out the college kids and their parents. IMO they really need to up the borrowing limits, too, since they haven't even come close to keeping pace with actual need.

Oh, please understand that I was being sincere, and not sarcastic. I understand there are constricts; I also understand that people can make a difference. Seriously, make a run, Swamp!

And that is why I served. It's a tough, underappreciated job. The pay sucks, it takes up way more of your time than you'd think, and everyone criticizes you. I think he should do it if for no other reason that it is good for the soul to be civic minded.

I'd throw some money at each of your campaigns just to see you suffer if successful.

Mighty charitable of you. :P

You're welcome! In all seriousness, should either of you choose to run, well, why wouldn't we on SS throw some backing behind fellow Sabre fans?

If it happens I'll be sure to mention it somewhere on this board.

I guess it should come as no surprise why homeschooling is booming in both the US and Canada.

I just realized Monday is a work-from-home day and the trade deadline, but since I don't have cable I can't just throw on NHL Network and monitor everything. :censored:

Fell asleep on the couch listening to the postgame and only just "going" to bed. Today is gonna hurt.

Good luck with the teeth, Liger... I had the same thing several years ago (2 simple and 2 surgical extractions) and it wasn't bad after you get through the first day. Be sure to follow the post-op instructions well to avoid dry socket and plan on eating soft food requiring little chewing for a good week after. I took it as a good excuse to have ice cream and milkshakes (but not the first day or you'll get sick!). :)

wicked screwed up back. can't sleep more that 4-5 hours, and that's just from sheer exhaustion. can't get to my chiro until tomorrow. popping ibuprofen like they're little blue red hots. muscle

relaxants and pain killers aren't even helping.

a buddy suggested getting an MRI and look into steroid injections because this happens pretty regularly.

if I were 12, i'd throw a "fml" in here, but really, this is but a hiccup. all things being equal, this is minor compared to what a real "fml" could be. so I guess from that perspective, I don't have much o

complain about.

Get the MRI first and let a back specialist look at it. I had brutal pain for a long time. MRI showed a herniated disc. I am able to control it with therapy, no shots or surgery. Don't let it go any longer.

Hey Chris, I herniated a disk in my lower back (L4-L5) almost 20 years ago. Back pain sux in the worst way and I think you've got a legit FML. If you aren't icing it down I suggest 30 min on, 30 min off for 2-3 cycles. If the injury is new-ish there is probably alot of inflammation. If ibuprophen isn't cutting it give a good, heavy icing down a shot at reducing inflammation.

My disk had me in physical therapy sessions 3-4 times over a 5 year period. It only gradually got better, but only after I became wicked careful about everything I did. A herniated disk is an injury for life. On the good side, I've been pain free enough for the last 3 years or so that I joined a gym in January and am working out 3-4 days a week now.

I wouldn't wish a back injury on my worst enemy. Good luck man and keep at it. It'll take time and perserverence to get through.

As much as I LOVE my Keurig machine I hate the cost of the 'pod'.

That's been one of the reasons why my wife and I haven't gone out and bought one yet.

My complaint for the week: my trucking company is gradually converting over from paper logs to electronic logs (aka e-logs). (ThePebble19 might know something abou this.) That's not the problem. What IS the problem is that they are now going to enforce when I check in and check out of a shipper or receiver. I asked how long this has been the policy. I was told that this had always been the policy, but that they're now going to be checking it with the e-logs. WTF? I wouldn't have had a problem with this had they told me about it when I first came on board and used the old paper logs. To me, this is like a bait and switch and they've lost a lot of respect in my eyes for this.
