Ted Nolan at odds with NYI management?

They're actually doing Nolan a favor...who the hell wants to coach a team that is relying on Doug Weight and Bill Guerin to carry them?

But I must be crazy--those guys have a good 5-10 years left in em! :death:

I think the Isles and Leafs are in the "Race to Tavares".

I see why the Islanders suck, because of Garth Snow. I guess he can't compensate for his lack of management skills just like he did for his lack of goalie skills with oversized pads.

I agree. I'd be amazed if there was a 3rd chance for Nolan. Not next season, not 5 years from now, not 10 years from now.

I agree too, if he had just been let go because he wasn't giving them the results they wanted, then maybe he would get another chance. But this is the second time that he has been let go and both times the teams are letting him go because of a "disagreement" with management. He obviously has a problem with people above him.

Although I don't know if I'm 100% sure he doesn't get another chance, I mean, in a league where Chris Simon keeps getting more chances, why can't Ted Nolan?

So, what's the over/under on days before the racist, alcohol related, and affairs with player's wives/GM's daughters accusations start to fly? I give it till 6pm. So, it now seems that we truly had lighning in a bottle for that 96-97 season. 95-96 sucked, so did his two years with the islanders. I can't say that I'm shocked that he was let go now, but it is too bad for him. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Wang will get things 100% right now when he cans garth wood shoulders snow.

Is that McKee giving Garth an earful from the bench?? AWESOME! Old-time hockey coach!

Sounds like the Isles are still a mess. It's been the same mess for years.

IIRC, you can thank Mike Milbury for that. After all, didn't he write the book Bad Deals in Hockey Made Easy?

The humerous thing is that guys like Guerin and Weight were what Nolan wanted and Snow and Trottier wanted him to play the kids.

The biggest reason Nolan will have difficulty finding work is that he wants a team full of girzzled vets and the league is going towards playing youth.

To BTP's point, it shouldn't be long before Ted starts laying the blame. The blame game was always his strongest suit.

The other humorous thing in all this is Nolan is a big time motivator, and not nearly as good at the X's and O's. It has to be harder to get the older guys to buy into the "go through the wall for each other" and "everybody is against us, let's prove them all wrong" stuff than it would be to get the young guys to go through a wall.

I don't expect to see him back in the NHL anytime soon because of the scorched bridges from a decade ago and it doesn't appear that this parting will do anything to dispel his reputation as someone that can't / won't work with his GM. Is there another Wang out there that will choose a coach without input from the GM? If so, maybe Teddy still has hope of being a 3x NHL head coach.

Well you know maybe he can join his buddy Chris Simon in Russia. And in no way is that a shot at Native Americans--it just happens to be true that Nolan actually stuck up for Simon after the "skate stomp" he put on Ruutu last season.

I hope Nolan gets another chance. I think he needs a physical young low-budget team.

The Islanders were not a match, with the 11 year contracts to DiPietro and the nutty owner,

the goalie-turned GM, along with guys like guerin, brendan witt and the rest of those mediocre

go-through-the-motions veterans they have out there.

Nolan doesn't want a "young" team. He is the one that wants grizzled veterans. It was his biggest argument with Muckler and Snow as both general managers didn't like the way he developed or didn't develop the youth on the team.

Like Taro said, the funny thing is that you would think the young guys would be the ones who would buy his motivational speeches.

You coach what you have and deal with it. Ruff didn't always have the team he wanted but he coached it well and tried to win. Enough with defending Nolan. You would think he is a Hall-of-Fame coach with Stanley Cup wins to his credit the way he acts.

If only they would have canned him sooner, they could have brought him to Toronto and had him coach the Leafs. It would have saved them alot of Buyouts and could have just resigned their FA's and continued this offseason just like previous ones!

The funniest part is that you just threw out a random ridiculously high number for the DiPietro contract, yet your number wasn't even high enough.

I'm not so sure this hurts him like his departure from Buffalo....

The Wang/Snow Islanders are already seen as pretty unconventional in terms of their management by committee style.

Ted didn't do so badly playing the cards he was given.

Please remember he was NOT dismissed in Buffalo he walked away from a one year contract. Sure one year wasn't the best, but fact remains it was his choice to leave.

In the most technical sense, yes. But that "offer" was made with the intention of it never being accepted.
