Not a bad trade at all for San Jose. They're defense is solid now with Blake and Boyle added in to what they already had. IMO, SJ may push Anaheim with the way their roster is shaping up.

As good as this is for us not getting him, this just puts Smith that much higher on Ottawa's FA totem pole.

Risky deal by San Jose. They are now in cap hell. Their payroll is almost to the cap. And they have only like 10 forwards signed and Christian Ehrhoff still needs to be signed. He's a RFA. If i were Buffalo, i'd offer him a deal. No way SJ can accept anything over like $2.5 million.
