Buffalo Fan Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 Isn't going anywhere for a while. I would normally position myself as an optimist for change this summer, but I am starting to get depressed...is it too early for a beer? It must be 12 o'clock somewhere!
deluca67 Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 It has to be a sales pitch. If this team is counting on Max and Connolly it's going to be a long season.
stenbaro Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008  He isnt going anywhere unless they get a player with equal talent and potential...He isnt getting traded for picks, he only goes for a player or in a package, if he goes at all...
nucci Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 I think Max is going to be difficult to trade. We know how he plays but so does every other GM in the league. He has 1 year left on a deal that pays over $3M which means teams are getting him for this year only. If we do move him don't expect much in return.

The Sabres already have Tim Connolly. They have a third thing in common. They are both useless.
darksabre Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 NOOOOOOO!!! :wallbash: :wallbash: :wallbash:
BetweenThePipes00 Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 Leave it to the News to publish quotes from a June 30 press conference on July 4 and throw everyone into a panic again ... It's nothing new ... what's he supposed to say about a guy he has PUBLICLY said he is trying to trade, that he sucks? Besides, I want him gone too and he is a turnover machine, but he's right to a point, if he plays a full season he will score more than 10 goals.
apuszczalowski Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 Well, the comment are one of 2 things 1. He is trying to hype up Max so that he will have some kind of trade value on the market. Looking at the guys that were waived or bought out this offseason, I don't see there being any kind of market for max, unless Darcy has been working on a time machine, or has some of the video scouts working on video equivelants of photoshopping some video's of Max playing. 2. He is trying to hype up the Buffalo fans to accept having him back next season after seeing that he isn't going to get his top 4 defencemen in a swap for Max
BetweenThePipes00 Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 It's probably both. Either way, what else is he supposed to say when asked about Max?
X. Benedict Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 The Sabres already have Tim Connolly. They have a third thing in common. They are both useless. There is a huge difference. The Sabres are a better team with Connolly on the ice.
Kristian Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 There is a huge difference. The Sabres are a better team with Connolly on the ice. As to where the Sabres are effectively on a 4 on 6 PK when Max is on the ice. Friggin' waive him if that's what it takes, but please please please just get rid of him.... I can't stand another season of watching the idiot try to take on 5 guys on his own, and in turn end up setting said 5 guys up on yet another odd-man rush. Well it's that, or take one of his "oh fook, me lose thee puck again" penalties and kill any momentum we may have going, which appears to be the lesser of two evils :wallbash:
shrader Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 Leave it to the News to publish quotes from a June 30 press conference on July 4 and throw everyone into a panic again ... That should be the end of the thread right there. What a hack move. What other reason could they have other than what you suggested?
tom webster Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 That should be the end of the thread right there. What a hack move. What other reason could they have other than what you suggested? It was just a filler column and the column clearlt states that Reiger said here or elsewhere. The News, no matter what you feel, is not trying to panic anyone. People just have to learn to read and comprehend better. Is it the News fault if people read only what they want to read. Edit: this is not intended at you Shrader because I'm assuming you didn't see the article placement nor the whole column.
Two or less Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 I heard he's training all off-season in Russia with Pavel Bure. He took several weeks off but then went to work. This is the hardest Max has ever worked in the off-season and he really wants to make an impact. I really think he will play well, either it's here or somewhere else. They say that not only was Bure a great player, but he's a great teacher of the game too. Hopefully this works out for Max.

Also, Can you really say he has worked "all off season" then in the next breath say "he took several weeks off"? Just doesn't make sense to me.

Online it just seems completely random. Is there something else accompanying it in print?

Last winter Olympics NBC's coverage talked about Bure as a possible next head coach of Russia. They said he's a great teacher and coaches youths in Russia and over looks their NT. He took several weeks off, but he's at work now. Sorry, the guy ain't a robot. He took off and went to France to see his girlfriend play in the French Open. Most players are doing jack right now, Max is working with Bure. Whatever way i worded it, makes sense or not, bottom line is, the guy is working hard this off-season.

Most players games didn't fall off the face of the earth like Max's did. If he was truly committed he would have started right after the end of the season. God knows he was still fresh from the season where he expended very little energy.

I honestly don't know, i thought it was cool to hear that he's working harder then ever and even reached out to Pavel Bure for help. I also think, that being on maybe the best hockey team two seasons in a row and then missing the playoffs and playing poorly yourself, might have had alot to do with him taking a break from the sport all together to clear his mind. But that's just my theory based on nothing. lol

I didn't really mean that they did it on purpose in an effort to start a panic. It was more likely "I'll hold these quotes for a future story on a day when there is no news." Unfortunately there have already been several of those days, and the climate is such that anything other than "Sabres trade Afinogenov for Larry Robinson" is going to be greeted with "Here we go again, Darcy is a moron!" even if he didn't do or say anything new.
BamBam Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 I know this may break the hearts of alot of people on the board, but the ever powerfull and all popular trade idea of MAX, MAC and a 2nd rounder won't get you a whole hell of alot back in the real world.

I think there are very few on this board that think Max or Tim have any trade value. I think many would have preferred they were bought out or sent to another team for "future considerations". I don't think anyone expects either of those to garner any serious return.

Is there something else accompanying it in print? It was actually stuck on the top right, like they needed a 2" x 6" filler. I gave the paper to a guy at the parade so I don't remember what was next to it but I'm pretty sure it was the only Sabre story on the page.

OK, I still don't think they did it to start a panic, but as someone who has worked in the business, that just reeks of laziness ... we have a hole on the page and no Sabres story today, so let's just re-use 5-day old quotes? They couldn't find someone to write six whopping paragraphs about how nothing new went down yesterday but they may be in it for Jason Smith? Did they pull Vogl out of bed at deadline to write that and that's what he had in his semi-conscious state?
